00:00Soon after this terrible crime, the Briley brothers' killing spree comes to an end.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at 10 of the creepiest biological families
00:09who have been involved in some kind of true crime.
00:12My two little sisters right now are chained up.
00:14They're chained up?
00:15Yes.
00:16Where are they chained up at?
00:17On their bed.
00:20Las Poquianches
00:20The Guinness World Records currently lists Las Poquianches as, quote,
00:24the most prolific murder partnership, which is an odd record to be sure.
00:28Mexican sisters Delfina, Carmen, Maria de Jesus, and Maria Luisa ran a series of brothels in the
00:34state of Guanajuato, and it's here where most of their heinous crimes occurred.
00:38They lured young girls with false promises of employment, only to drug,
00:42kidnap, and force them into sex work.
00:45The sisters then killed many of the girls once they stopped attracting customers,
00:48usually by getting sick or pregnant, while also murdering the clients and pimps who threatened
00:53to report them.
00:54It is believed that the sisters killed at least 91 people in this manner,
00:58but estimates also go much higher.
01:01The Tromp family disappearance.
01:03The police also noted that there had been no previously diagnosed mental health problems
01:07among the family members, and none of them were taking drugs.
01:11This wasn't caused by drug-induced psychosis.
01:15Other causes, like carbon monoxide poisoning, were also ruled out.
01:19So what could have been happening in a situation like this?
01:23On August 29, 2016, Mark and Jacoba Tromp, along with their three adult children,
01:29abandoned their Australian farm, leaving behind valuables like their passports,
01:33credit cards, and cell phones.
01:35However, the trip rapidly deteriorated, with Mark convinced that someone was tracking or
01:40threatening them.
01:41By the end of the trip, two of the children had returned home.
01:44One was found in a near-catatonic state in the back of a stranger's truck in Goulburn,
01:48Jacoba was found disoriented in Yass, and Mark was found dehydrated near Wangaratta Airport.
01:53To this day, no one knows what happened to the family or why they became so scattered.
01:58But some mental health professionals consider their case a rare but compelling example of
02:02shared psychosis.
02:03Another possibility is that the father became psychotic.
02:07The mother then joined in, again, maybe with something like folia dew, and it was like
02:12a domino effect.
02:13Once the two of them were both talking about these people who were trying to rob them,
02:18the three adult children became convinced of the threat,
02:20because both of their parents were saying the same thing.
02:23The Harp Brothers
02:24Big and Little Harp, robbers and murderers?
02:26The earliest documented serial killers in American history are actually two brothers,
02:31or maybe first cousins.
02:32History isn't really sure.
02:34They are Macasia and Wiley Harp, or Big and Little Harp, respectively.
02:38These two brothers terrorized the American South in the late 18th century,
02:42often robbing and murdering settlers around the Appalachian Mountains.
02:46The Harps killed indiscriminately, and their murders were said to be of a heinous nature,
02:51often involving extreme brutality and mutilation.
02:54Macasia even murdered his own daughter after growing annoyed by her constant crying.
02:58They are thought to have killed between 40 and 50 people,
03:01but their crimes ultimately caught up with them.
03:04Macasia was killed by a posse, and Wiley was caught and executed.
03:07I'm executing sentence now, and he's hanging under color of law.
03:10You and your partner plan on making Deadwood Marshall.
03:13Do not try for this scaffold!
03:15The Ramseys
03:16The murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey captivated the nation and put her family under
03:20the microscope, with many speculating that her father, mother, brother, or all three
03:25were involved in her killing.
03:26The death of JonBenet Ramsey is one of the most infamous cold cases in modern American history.
03:31Ramsey was found dead in her family home on the morning of December 26, 1996,
03:36the result of obvious foul play.
03:39Her murder was blamed on a failed kidnapping, but many have long suspected the Ramseys themselves.
03:44Two competing theories lingered for years.
03:47Did an intruder break in and kill?
03:49Or were the Ramseys themselves somehow responsible?
03:52The ransom note was handwritten using pen and paper from inside the house,
03:56and many suspect JonBenet's mother Patsy of being the author.
03:59There were also no signs of forced entry,
04:02and the Ramseys were reluctant to speak with police, fueling intense suspicion.
04:06Even though they've been exonerated of JonBenet's death,
04:09the family's behavior remains unsettling,
04:11and many believe that they staged the scene to cover up her accidental death.
04:15I remember the casket was small, and her eyes were closed,
04:18and I think one of her eyes was a little bit, like, droopy or something,
04:21and I thought that was weird.
04:23How did you feel seeing her?
04:26A lot of sadness.
04:27I don't think I really fully grasped, like, after this, I won't see her again.
04:31The Sonny Bean Clan
04:32A census taker once tried to test me.
04:36I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
04:44The legend of Sonny Bean is one of the most gruesome and enduring tales in Scottish folklore,
04:49although there is considerable debate over its authenticity.
04:52The clan supposedly consisted of over 40 family members,
04:56all of whom were descended from Sonny and bred through continued incest.
04:59The depraved family lived in a coastal cave on Benayn Head
05:03and ambushed travelers on remote roads before taking them back to their cave,
05:07butchering them, and eating their remains.
05:09Most serial killers keep some sort of trophies from their victims.
05:12I didn't.
05:14No?
05:15No, you ate yours.
05:16The beans allegedly killed and ate over 1,000 people throughout the 16th century
05:21before attracting the attention of King James VI,
05:23who found the beans and had them all executed.
05:26The story persisted throughout the centuries,
05:28eventually serving as the main inspiration for The Hills Have Eyes.
05:33Babies that you fat that you say.
05:39The Turpins.
05:40I live in a family of 15, okay?
05:45Can you hear me?
05:46And we have a beautiful Paris.
05:50Did you hear that?
05:50The highly publicized story of the Turpin family shocked the nation,
05:54betraying the very notions of family and security.
05:57David and Louise Turpin were the parents of 13 children,
06:00and they subjected all of them to horrific mistreatment.
06:03They were all confined to the house
06:05and had little to no interaction with the outside world,
06:08resulting in significantly stunted emotional and intellectual development.
06:12But I'm sorry if I talk too much.
06:13They were also severely malnourished,
06:16lacking in basic medical care,
06:18unbathed,
06:18and controlled through the use of physical punishment and restraint.
06:21Their crimes were finally uncovered in January 2018,
06:25when 17-year-old Jordan Turpin escaped the house and contacted police.
06:29The House of Horrors was subsequently raided,
06:31and both David and Louise were given life in prison.
06:34Do you have any injuries?
06:35Which injuries?
06:37Are you hurt?
06:38Oh, no.
06:40Not right now.
06:40Fred and Rose West
06:4225 Cromwell Street in Gloucester
06:44has become one of the most infamous addresses in Britain.
06:48For 20 years,
06:49Fred and Rose West quenched their appetite for sex and murder
06:52inside this house of unimaginable horror.
06:55One of the most notorious true crime stories in British history
06:58is that of Fred and Rose West in Gloucestershire.
07:00The married couple acted in tandem,
07:02and between the late 60s and late 80s,
07:04they kidnapped and murdered at least 12 known victims.
07:08Among the deceased were Fred's stepdaughter Charmaine,
07:10who was killed by Rose West,
07:12and the couple's biological daughter, Heather,
07:14who was supposedly murdered after growing suspicious of her parents.
07:17What it brought to light was a family joke.
07:22And the family joke was a simple one.
07:24You better watch out,
07:25because if you don't shut up and stop causing
07:27your dad or your mom any trouble,
07:30you'll end up, like Heather,
07:32two down and three across in the patio.
07:34The Wests would kidnap and imprison their victims in their Gloucestershire home
07:38and subject them to horrific abuse before murdering them
07:40and burying their remains in the garden.
07:43Luckily, their horrific crimes were uncovered
07:45while police were investigating the disappearance of Heather.
07:48They were brought down by their daughter after all.
07:50And of course, at that stage,
07:51it wasn't about serial killing,
07:54it was about Heather.
07:56But of course,
07:56the thing unraveled pretty quickly with the excavation.
07:59The Briley brothers tie up the couple,
08:03clean the home of all valuables,
08:05and douse each room with kerosene
08:07before setting the structure on fire.
08:09Quickly driving away from the area,
08:11the men are not around
08:12when the Henrico couple escape the fire,
08:15making them the sole survivors
08:17of the Briley brothers' killing spree.
08:19Richmond, Virginia was subjected to a horrible crime spree
08:22throughout much of 1979,
08:24in which at least 12 people were targeted and killed.
08:26The perpetrators were brothers Linwood,
08:28James, and Anthony Briley,
08:30along with their mutual friend, Duncan Meekins.
08:33Their sadistic seven-month spree
08:35throughout Richmond involved arson,
08:37robbery, home invasion,
08:38sexual assault, and murder.
08:40Their methods involving tools like cinder blocks,
08:42scissors, and forks.
08:44The final murders take place at this home behind me
08:46in the 2300 block of Barton Avenue.
08:49The Briley brothers walk up to longtime neighbor,
08:51Harvey Wilkerson, his pregnant wife,
08:53and their five-year-old son.
08:54And this would be the last time anyone would see them alive.
08:58The victims were also completely indiscriminate,
09:00ranging from young to old,
09:02from elderly women to young disc jockeys.
09:05However, Meekins eventually flipped
09:07and helped authorities apprehend the Briley brothers.
09:09Linwood and James were executed,
09:11and Anthony is currently serving a life sentence
09:14in the Lawrenceville Correctional Center.
09:15Your brother says you're innocent, are you?
09:17We are innocent.
09:19We have them.
09:21Committed no crimes.
09:22You never have committed nothing.
09:23I'm innocent of everything that was done in Virginia.
09:26Excuse me.
09:26Then why do you have your claims covered?
09:28Because I don't want to see you.
09:29The Gang of Amazons.
09:31It's not rare for family men to be serial killers,
09:34but it is quite rare for entire families
09:36to be serial killers.
09:37That's the case with the so-called Gang of Amazons from Russia.
09:40The gang consisted of matriarch and leader Inessa Tarvyadeva,
09:44her husband, Ramon Potkapayev, and their two children.
09:48Also involved were Ramon's sister, Anastasia,
09:50who stored stolen goods,
09:52and her husband, Sergei,
09:53a police officer who fed the family inside information.
09:56Together, they robbed and killed between 10 and 30 people,
10:00with many of their victims being remote travelers
10:02in rural and unguarded locations.
10:04However, the house of cards collapsed
10:06when Ramon was shot and killed by the police.
10:09The rest of his family received lengthy prison sentences.

10:27The Bloody Benders.
10:29In Southeast Kansas,
10:31an archaeological dig is underway
10:32to uncover new clues
10:34in a century-old murder mystery.
10:36Students from KU are trying to learn more
10:38about the Bender family
10:40and the victims they left behind
10:41on the Kansas frontier.
10:43While they sound like a punk band,
10:45the Bloody Benders were actually
10:46a serial-killing family from Kansas,
10:49though there is some debate
10:50about whether they were actually related.
10:52As the story goes,
10:53John Bender,
10:54his wife Kate,
10:55and their two children
10:55ran a small inn
10:56where they offered meals
10:57and lodging to weary travelers.
10:59Kate, a spiritualist,
11:01would distract guests
11:02stopping in for a meal or goods,
11:04waiting behind a curtain
11:05that divided the cabin
11:06another family member.
11:08They would bludgeon the victim
11:09across the head with a hammer,
11:11ultimately slitting their throat
11:12for the victim to bleed out
11:13in the cellar below.
11:15Their bodies were then buried
11:16in the garden of the inn.
11:17Authorities were eventually drawn
11:19to the Benders
11:19following numerous reports
11:21of missing travelers,
11:22but when they arrived at the inn in 1873,
11:25they found nothing but a bloody cellar.
11:27The family had fled into history,
11:29and their fates remain unknown.
11:31That extensive search
11:33wouldn't lead to justice.
11:34The Benders were long gone
11:36before a search of their property
11:37uncovered up to eight bodies,
11:39all men buried naked, face down,
11:42one with an infant daughter
11:43who was likely buried alive.
11:45Which case do you find
11:46the most unsettling?
11:47Let us know in the comments below.
11:49This family is sick.
