Erik Spoelstra did something he almost never does, call out one of his players in the media. Breaking down why Spo would question Kel'el Ware's professionalism and what it means for Ware's 2nd season.
00:02The Heat, they lost both of their summer league games.
00:05Friday, they ended up losing that game against Atlanta.
00:07Despite having a lead, they got blown out.
00:10Kasperis, Yakuchonis did look better Friday against Atlanta.
00:13Kind of regressed a little bit yesterday.
00:16Spoke, called out Kalel Weyer.
00:18Yeah, he did.
00:19Over the weekend.
00:21And Kalel did look a little bit better last night.
00:23Like, more engaged.
00:25But those were, like, some pretty direct comments.
00:27Interesting to me.
00:28I have a little bit of a disconnect with what they're doing to him.
00:36Because it's been very clear and very public.
00:41We chose you over Kevin Durant.
00:44And now we're going to call you out publicly.
00:47Like, that's a lot of pressure for a young kid.
00:50That is.
00:51Now, maybe it works.
00:52Maybe it doesn't.
00:53Looked like it worked the day after.
00:55But I'm talking long haul.
00:58That's a lot of pressure to go into a season knowing that the team publicly has let everyone know.
01:06We're questioning some of your efforts, which was a knock on him coming in, by the way.
01:11And also, we chose you over Kevin Durant.
01:14It's one thing to know that privately.
01:16It's another thing for your employer to make that public.
01:22Pressure bust pipes or makes diamonds.
01:24And even last offseason, they called out Jimmy and Tyler.
01:29Understood.
01:29I think it's the Heat's way, Hulk.
01:32But what I'm saying is you might be doing that.
01:35I'm not telling you that, hey, you shouldn't do that to someone.
01:38I'm saying you're doing it at your own risk.
01:40Because it doesn't make you look very good either if you passed up on KD for a guy who couldn't handle the pressure campaign that all of a sudden you put on him.
01:51Like, I'm just not certain.
01:54Like, it's almost like, hey, did you see what happened with Jimmy Butler?
01:57Didn't really work out in your favor.
01:59Maybe we take a different approach here.
02:01And now you've got a guy who doesn't have the makeup of Jimmy Butler.
02:05And you're trying the same thing.
02:07Interesting to me.
02:09To be fair, to be fair, though.
02:11Jimmy and took LeBron's cookies.
02:14But I just, but to that point, this isn't the Miami Heat.
02:19Technically, Pat Riley, the front office, kind of calling out Kalil Ware.
02:25Because Alonzo Mourinho joined us, Tobin, Tommy, and I, on our draft show.
02:30And he spoke about Kalil.
02:32He said that he's been in the gym more than anybody.
02:35And he also said that he's working harder than he needs to be working.
02:40Like, he's just been a gym rat all summer.
02:42And Pat Riley was very complimentary of Kalil Ware at his end-of-season press conference.
02:47This was Eric Spolstra.
02:49I think this is not a lack of Kalil Ware working hard.
02:54This, to me, seems like Kalil Ware doesn't think he needs to be at Summer League.
02:59And was kind of half-assing it.
03:01Like, I'm too good for this.
03:03And Eric Spolstra getting that info from Eric Glass, who's the head coach.
03:07Who's a mini Spoh.
03:08And Spoh taking this opportunity.
03:10Standing in front of Ira, Anthony, Ethan, Wes Goldberg.
03:14And sending a direct message.
03:15Eric Spolstra, the head coach, of like, F this.
03:18We're not fooling around anymore.
03:19Like, hey, you don't think you belong here?
03:21Guess what?
03:21I'm going to go torch you in the media.
03:23Which is kind of what he did.
03:24Or, maybe it's Spoh being unhappy with the front office decision to keep Kalil Ware instead of giving him Kevin Durant.
03:31And saying, okay, well, since you gave me this guy, I'll do it my way now with him.
03:36Because I would have preferred to be coaching Kevin Durant.
03:39Would have made things maybe a little bit easier on me.
03:41Maybe.
03:42Maybe.
03:44And does Kalil Ware need to be at Summer League?
03:48This is how the Heat operates.
03:50He is written in as your starting five for next season.
03:53Well, no, he's not.
03:54That's what Eric Spolstra's saying.
03:56Like, if you – he didn't say it.
03:58Is Montas Buzelas at Summer League for Chicago?
04:00Mm-hmm.
04:01Is he?
04:02I don't know.
04:02He is.
04:02He is.
04:03He is?
04:04Well, there you go.
04:05That's all you need to know.
04:06And Kalil Ware needs to be there.
04:07Didn't you send us a Buzelas highlight tape?
04:10Yes.
04:11Oh, my God.
04:11You're right.
04:12Yes.
04:12Yeah.
04:12Yeah.
04:13Yeah.
04:13Making sure I did.
04:14I wasn't watching the wrong thing.
04:15Yeah, you should be playing two games a day, Kalil.
04:18If Buzelas is out there, you should be playing on two different squads.
04:21Buzelas sets the market on second-year players.
04:24Guy was in the slam dunk competition rookie year.
04:27Enough said.
04:28And he missed every dunk he took.
04:30He did.
04:30What did?
04:30Who?
04:31What?
04:31Did he shadow ban him?
04:32Because the judges shadow ban him.
04:33Oh, no.
04:34He shadow banned the rim.
04:35Because the judges shadow ban him.
04:36He shadow banned the rim.
04:38The rim shadow banned him.
04:40Open your eyes, Crowder.
04:41Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
