00:00Unrelenting and or torrential rainfall over the past few weeks has left several roadways and locations in the megacity underwater.
00:08Thus, the MMDA has pinpointed these locations and is ready to put in play a number of flood mitigating measures that our Bernard Ferrer enumerates in this report.
00:20Due to frequent rains, flooding has also become more common in various parts of Metro Manila.
00:26Among the areas that have been frequently experienced flooding are Maicillo Circle in Mandaluyong, Espanya Boulevard, Araneta Avenue, Edsa near Camp Aguinaldo, Taff Avenue, parts of Buntilupa, Paranaque, Las Piñas, Marikina, and Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
00:44According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority or MMDA, these areas are prone to flooding due to excessive rainwater, low-lying terrain, and improper waste disposal.
00:55As a response, the government, particularly the MMDA, and the Department of Public Works and Highways, or DPWH, have implemented measures to mitigate the impact of flooding.
01:06On Edsa near Camp Aguinaldo, the construction of a water impounding facility has been proposed.
01:12In Marikina, the construction of the Upper Marikina Dam has been deemed necessary.
01:17In the Muntilupa, Paranaque, Las Piñas area, a spillway is being planned as a long-term solution.
01:22Currently, the MMDA operates 71 pumping stations across the metropolis.
01:28Six of these have already been rehabilitated, including those in Balut, Vitas, Labasan, Paco, Makati, and Santa Clara.
01:37Meanwhile, 20 pumping stations are undergoing rehabilitation, and four new ones are under construction.
02:09The navigation gate in Avotas is also being repaired as part of flood control measures.
02:15The MMDA regularly conducts the clogging, dredging, and the silting of canals and rivers.
02:20The agency is also coordinating with local government units in Metro Manila to address drainage system issues more effectively.
02:28The agency is also coordinating with local government units in Metro Manila to address drainage system issues.
02:35One of the long-term solution being considered by the government is the implementation of a comprehensive drainage measure plan and the relocation of residents living near waterways.
02:45The MMDA has assured the public of its preparedness in the face of frequent rains and flooding in Metro Manila.
02:51Nakaanda naman po yung ating emergency team na mag-respond sa anumang malalim na pagbaha in case na kailangan po ng rescue ng ating mga kababayan.
03:03Ganon din po yung mga LGUs nakaanda naman po. May enough equipment naman tayo to do that.
03:12At yun naman po sa pagbaha, may, again, nag-preposition na po tayo ng mga ating mga tauhan.
03:19The agency once again called on the public to avoid improper garbage disposal and to practice proper waste segregation to help prevent severe flooding.
03:29Bernard Ferrer from the National TV Network for New and Better Philippines.
