Josh Pieters reveals what it's like interviewing prisoners immediately after release

00:00We made this series where we would wait outside of prisons and interview prisoners as they were

00:06released which turned out to be quite an emotional and interesting series. You know you'd speak to

00:11these people as they were released who were ultimately happy because they'd just been

00:15released out of prison. Their stories were so tragic and the prison system evidently was shown

00:20to us to be so broken in that most of the people we spoke to had been in prison over 10 times. So

00:25you're interviewing these people and they're like I'll probably be back here next month and being

00:29able to just talk to people in a natural way without me having to be a sort of exaggerated

00:33version of myself. I really enjoyed and just interviewing people and hearing their stories

00:37I realized that was what I wanted to do and that's what led me to then want to make documentaries.
