00:52Patidongan and the families of the missing Sabongeros filed an administrative complaint
00:57with the National Police Commission on Monday, July 14, against the following policemen.
01:02Patidongan claims the police were paid to kill the Sabongeros and bring their remains to Taal Lake in Batangas.
01:07The complaint is administrative in nature, which means the penalty could either be suspension
01:11or removal from police service, depending on the NAPOCOM's ruling.
01:15Patidongan is accused of kidnapping and serious illegal detention of six Sabongeros from Rizal in 2022.
01:20He earlier tagged his former boss, Atong Ang, as the alleged mastermind in the case.
01:26In response, Ang filed multiple criminal complaints, including slander, against Patidongan.
01:32Defense Secretary Gibbo Chudoro confirms he once held Maltese citizenship and a Maltese passport,
01:38but says it was renounced before he filed for Senate candidacy in 2021.
01:42Defense Assistant Secretary Arsenio Andolong says on Monday, July 14,
01:46that Chudoro disclosed the information to the Bureau of Immigration and the Committee on Appointments
01:51prior to the 2022 elections and his appointment as Defense Chief.
01:55The Manila Times first reported that Chudoro had a valid Maltese passport from 2016 to 2026,
02:01but did not state whether his citizenship had already been renounced.
02:05Legal experts whom Rappler spoke with said if Chudoro had in fact renounced the Maltese citizenship,
02:10then the issue would be moot.
02:11Chudoro was appointed Defense Chief in July 2023, just as the appointment man for losing 2022 candidates lapsed.
02:18As Defense Chief, Chudoro has executive supervision over several agencies,
02:23including the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
02:27Campus journalist Sofia Marie Coquilla was found dead,
02:30brutally stabbed 38 times in her home in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
02:34Police reports say the 19-year-old freshman at the University of the Philippines de Liman
02:38was found dead on the morning of July 9, lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom.
02:43Police are investigating robbery as a motive, but the brutal nature of the crime raises more questions.
02:48Since July 10, authorities have arrested four suspects, most of them minors.
02:52The latest was caught in Davao City with an unlicensed gun and some of the victim's belongings.
02:58Tagum Police say a 17-year-old suspect told investigators he and the group's leader
03:02took turns stabbing Coquilla after she woke up and saw them.
03:05Under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, children aged 15 and below cannot be held criminally responsible
03:11and are placed in intervention programs.
03:14The law faced criticism over the decades, especially after high-profile crimes involving minors.
03:21An Israel-based Filipina caregiver, Lea Mosquera, died nearly a month after sustaining severe injuries
03:27when an Iranian missile hit her apartment in Rehovot.
03:30The Philippine embassy in Israel said the 49-year-old from Negros Occidental passed away on Sunday, July 13.
03:36Mosquera had several surgeries and spent weeks in the hospital's intensive care unit.
03:41The embassy says, quote,
03:42The Department of Foreign Affairs has raised the alert level to three in both Israel and Iran,
03:55allowing the voluntary repatriation of Filipinos based in the two warring countries.
03:59Meantime, at least eight Palestinians, mostly children, were killed,
04:03and over a dozen were hurt in central Gaza on Sunday, July 13 while trying to get water
04:08in an Israeli strike which the military said missed its target.
04:12The Israeli military said the missile was meant to hit an Islamic Jihad militant in the area,
04:17but a malfunction caused it to land dozens of meters from the target.
04:20The Los Angeles County medical examiner confirmed that Paulo Tantoco, a Ruston's executive, died from cocaine use.
04:29His death was ruled accidental, with cocaine effects listed as the main cause.
04:34The examiner also noted that before his death, Tantoco was suffering from probable atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
04:40or plaque buildup in the arteries.
04:42Hollywood LA News says Tantoco was in the U.S. as part of First Lady Lisa Araneta-Marcos' group
04:47for the Manila International Film Festival, held from March 4 to 7.
04:52Tantoco is the husband of Deputy Social Secretary Dina Arroyo Tantoco.
04:56Tantoco's cause of death was confirmed four months after he died on March 9 at age 44.
05:02He was laid to rest in the Philippines.
