00:00I'm lucky in the fact that I've not really been the victim of much crime myself, but I have seen an increase in crime generally, especially sort of burglaries and car thefts and that type of thing.
00:12Over the last, I'm born and bred in Leeds and lived there all my life, I do feel the city centre is becoming a little bit more, I don't know if unsafe is the word, but I feel a little bit more at unease in the city centre, especially when I've got young children with me.
00:27And, you know, try to keep my eye on them as well as all my personal belongings.
00:30I'm a street marshal in Leeds City Centre, so I know quite a lot about the crime in Leeds at the current time.
00:36And believe it or not, there's a lot of crime going on in Leeds right now that you don't know about.
00:40But the general feel is when you're walking around, I feel safe. I don't feel scared in any way.
00:45There seems to be quite a lot of police, you know, dotted around and stuff.
00:50Maybe not at two o'clock in the morning when they are really needed, they're not around.
00:53I think I'm a bit shielded where I live because there's not much crime, but when you get burgled, there's a lot of burglary.
01:01Hard to sort, but that's the main thing that worries me, which I go away a lot.
01:10Yeah, everybody wants more police on the streets and doing less paperwork.
01:14That's today's world. Everything has to be justified.
01:17There's a bit more shoplifting than there used to be.
01:21And I think it's kind of organised rather than spontaneous.
01:26You know, gangs of youths going in to shops and, you know, the big shops can cope.
01:34They've got store detectors, but the little shops, you know, it really is, you know, it's like limbo dancing.
01:42It's the lowest of the low.
01:43Pretty okay amount of police. I think it's pretty okay funders, in my opinion.
01:48I think there's other things that, you know, the government could fund.
01:51I help her and things.
01:52I would agree that there's not enough police on the streets.
01:57It's supposed to depends where you are, depends what area you're in, but probably generally speaking, there's not.
02:02Like now, if I see police on the streets, I'm like, oh, police.
02:05Whereas before it was kind of a bit more standard.
02:07As for feeling safe, accidentally left the front door wide open the other night, so nobody came in and slit our throat, so it's okay, it must be safe.
02:16There was a couple of police on the way walking here.
02:19It does feel quite surveyed.
02:22There's lots of cameras around.
02:23And it does seem pretty safe, at least compared to Sheffield, in my opinion.
02:29I think Leeds is definitely a lot safer.
02:33I've been burgled a couple of times.
02:37Thankfully, not when I'm in the house, because I think if you're in the house and they come in, it can be a bit scary, especially if there's two or three of them.
02:45I always go home late, like 3 a.m., 4 a.m., because I go to the pubs, I drink, and yeah, just walk around because I enjoy night walks.
02:53And yeah, it's always been like super safe.
02:56There's not even a single person on the streets except me.
