00:00Cancer is a horrible diagnosis to receive at any age, but there has been a
00:04rise in the rate of cancers among young adults uncovered by a recent study and
00:08scientists are trying to pinpoint why. Cancer cases among young people across
00:13the world have grown by 79 percent. According to Sky News, the team behind
00:17the study analyzed data from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study for 29
00:23cancers in 204 countries and regions. Scientists estimated the increase in
00:28rates for those aged under 50 between 1990 and 2019. Experts say given trends
00:35over the past three decades, new early onset cancer cases will increase an
00:39additional 31 percent by 2030. Forbes notes that many factors influence the
00:45risk of getting cancer, including genetic predispositions, exposure to certain
00:49viruses and environmental factors like pollutants, diet, exercise and the use of
00:54drugs like alcohol and tobacco. Researchers say there is no single
00:58explanation for the rise in early onset cancers over the past three decades.
