00:37Hannah Arendt saw this. She was there. She was living there.

00:42She escaped Nazi Germany,

00:44and she boarded a boat bound for the United States.

00:48And that's where she writes,

00:50the origins of totalitarianism.

00:54No one can ignore it. It's too important.

00:58At the same time, she becomes an American citizen.

01:04McCarthyism takes hold. It's very familiar.

01:09In the 1960s, she became the voice of American politics.
