00:00You did make me speechless. I never, I haven't been asked that question.
00:07How did you know that Rachel, David, and Nicholas were the perfects for their roles?
00:12In terms of David and Rachel, they went through a pretty hardcore series of auditions.
00:19And we had, you know, hundreds of Superman and hundreds of Loises.
00:24Eventually, we whittled it down to three Loises and three Supermans,
00:28and then we brought them in for a screen test where we did the interview scene.
00:32And we mixed and matched them to find the right Superman and right Lois.
00:37And at the end, because I wanted to make sure that the actors were great as those characters,
00:41and also that they had the chemistry together that they needed to have.
00:44Nick is a different story because Nick was one of those finalists for Superman.
00:50And I really liked working with him. I thought his performance was great.
00:54I just didn't think it was this particular Superman.
00:56But I kept, I could not get it out of my head that he would be a great Lex Luthor.
01:00So I called him up and I said,
01:02What do you think about playing Lex?
01:05And he said, you know, I didn't want to say it, but when I was reading the script,
01:09I kept thinking that I think that I should be Lex, not Superman.
01:13Superman is the most powerful superhero of all time.
01:17But his biggest strength is humanity.
01:21As Lois Lane, she's a human, but her big superpower is being still steps ahead of everyone.
01:28So each character has different sides.
01:30Which side was your favorite to play or more interested to play?
01:34I think for me, the technicalities of getting to fly and fight are really fun and they were really fun to learn.
01:41But as a character, his love of humanity is the way in, is the way that I connect with him the most.
01:49But his love of Lois, his love of Jimmy and his other colleagues at the Daily Planet,
01:55and even his love of his enemies and the good that he sees in them in that kind of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader kind of way.
02:04Sorry, I had to bring Star Wars into this at some point.
02:06Star Wars reference number 600.
02:07It's so hard to choose because one of the things that I love about James's version of Lois is that he really balances both sides of her.
02:15And I'm not sure we always get to see both sides so equally weighted.
02:18So I loved the intimacy and the space he made to see her most human side.
02:25Vulnerability is not always a super easy thing for her.
02:28And so that was really fun to play in the scenes that we had together.
02:31And then there are scenes that really have, that I can't really talk about because they haven't been spoiled yet actually,
02:37where she jumps into the fray and throws herself into the action in a way I've always loved about her.
02:44But I'm excited for people to see that adventure and who she takes it with.
02:48When you first decided to do Superman, what was the little thing that you cut as a writer and as a director?
02:54The one thing that you couldn't miss that you had to be in this movie.
02:58You did make me speechless.
03:00I never, I haven't been asked that question.
03:03I mean, you know, I can say so many things like about how, you know, Superman's innate goodness and that we really see that.
03:10We really see that come out.
03:11We really see his love for humanity, you know.
03:14But what I really wanted to see also was not, you know, one specific thing,
03:18but the sort of fun science fiction elements in the movie, from the robots to the flying dogs to the giant monster.
03:28Things that I loved in DC Comics growing up that we haven't really seen in the movies.
03:34Talking about flying dogs.
03:36We love Kato.
03:37He's amazing.
03:38So I got to make the record straight.
03:40Does your dog sleep in your bed?
03:42Yes.
03:43No.
03:44Oh, that's such a Lois answer.
03:45No.
03:46You have a dog?
03:47Lois doesn't like dogs.
03:48I love my dogs.
03:50No.
03:51They, only because my dog is 16 and she's ancient and stinky and no matter how many times you paid her.
03:59Okay, wait, wait.
04:00But your other dog?
04:02He hates being in the bed.
04:03He's the worst.
04:03He, like, comes eating out all day long.
04:05So the real answer is, if you had a dog that wanted to sleep in your bed.
04:08Oh, totally.
04:09Great.
04:09That's all the people want to know.
04:10Yes, my dog does sleep in my bed, yes.
04:12And he's, like, he cuddles with me and I don't mind it, but he makes my, he likes my wife more than me.
04:19We actually have two dogs in our bed all the time.
04:22Did you know there's a song about Superman in Brazil's Carnaval?
04:26No.
04:26Can you sing it for us now?
04:28I'm gonna teach you.
04:30We're gonna sing it.
04:31Oh, good luck to us.
04:32There's a song, there's a whole mission about the Justice League against bad-ass villains.
04:37And the chorus, like, is, like, run, Wonder Woman, run, run, Superman.
04:43Foge, Mulher Maravilha, foge, foge, Superman.
04:45Can you repeat it with me?
04:47No.
04:48Let me try it again.
04:49Say it again.
04:50I'm really bad.
04:51Rachel's good at this.
04:52She's been here this whole time and she's really good at saying, you know, Portuguese words.
04:57I got you.
04:58I look like an idiot.
04:59But I'll try it.
05:00I don't care.

05:18Superman.
05:18Superman.
05:19Superman.
05:19Okay, so say the whole thing quickly all the way through.
05:22Foge, Mulher Maravilha.
05:23Foge, foge, Superman.
05:24Can you just say the second word?
05:25Yeah.
05:26Say the second word slowly.
05:27Mulher.
