The Malaysian Bar has delivered a memorandum on safeguarding judicial independence to the Prime Minister’s Office, said its president, Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab.

On Monday afternoon (July 14), members of the legal fraternity, including senior figures from the Malaysian Bar, participated in a symbolic “Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence,” marching from the Palace of Justice to the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.

Ezri emphasised that the walk aimed to uphold the independence of the judiciary, calling it a fundamental pillar of democracy and a key requirement for a just and functioning legal system.

00:13So the Malaysian Bar is pleased to announce the successful completion of the War for Safeguard Judicial Independence
00:19which took place earlier this afternoon from the Palace of Justice to the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.
00:26We saw the participation from members of the Bar and pupils in chambers and members of the public,
00:32all united in our call to address the pressing consensus regarding the independence of the judiciary,
00:37particularly the ongoing vacancies in the judiciary, the need for institutional continuity
00:43and a more transparent and accountable judicial appointment process.
00:47So, can you just briefly explain the purpose of the walk and the adjuvant?
00:51The purpose of the walk is simple. It's just to help the independence of the judiciary.
00:57So, we would like for everybody to recognize that judicial independence is important
