00:00As a beauty editor, I know everyone's looking for quick and easy hairstyles to get through
00:03the summer heat. So let me show you this one. It's so cute. I like to keep my hair out of my
00:09face, especially when it's hot out. And instead of doing a whole updo, which can honestly be a
00:15little heavy for the girls with thick hair, if you know, you know, this is my cheat way to keep
00:19your hair still snatched and up like a slick back bun, but also play with your natural hair texture.
00:24For me, I like to brush it through a few times. Then I'm going in with an elastic and I'm just
00:28going to tie it up. I don't see any bumps, so I think we're good. There might be some flyaways,
00:32but I'm saving that trick till after I'm done putting it up. With a half up, half down, similar
00:36to a ponytail or a slick back bun, the tighter, the better in my opinion, but you do you. And with
00:42this look, you can put your ponies as high up or as low back as you like. I think this is kind of
00:46what flatters my face. Okay, now that we're snatched, let's take care of these flyaways.
00:51I'm using this day styling wand. I like it because it has this thick spoolie. This really separates
00:56and spreads the product evenly. See how that just laid my baby hairs down so seamlessly.
01:01And the other area that I'm seeing some flyaways is back here on my pony. So I'm just going to
01:05lightly lay in some product. And then I just use my hand to kind of smooth it out. Since it's
01:09summertime, I want to play with texture a little bit. And what I'm going to do is do a little baby
01:13micro braid and then wrap it around to cover up my hair tie and then just use a bobby pin to secure it.
01:20My relationship with my hair has been ever changing. Growing up, I really didn't have anyone in my
01:25family or around me that had my hair texture. So I was pretty frustrated with it. And actually doing
01:30one big side braid was like my security blanket as far as styling with my hair went. Then I started
01:36working at a beauty magazine. And some people in fashion say that their clothing was kind of their
01:41runway and they had so much fun dressing up. For me, it was truly my hairstyles that really inspired me
01:47every day. And that's what I kind of put all the attention to detail in. So while I still love a braid,
01:52I love a good hair accessory. I love switching it up. I joke with my niece that I do the same
01:57hairstyles as her because definitely she rocks these two half up, half down ponytails. And I do
02:03too. So I think it's really fun to still experiment with your hair at any age. Okay, so then we're going
02:08to grab the bobby pin and secure it underneath. The braid just adds a nice little detail and I think
02:14texture to my otherwise really wavy and blown out hair. I think this is also a great look if you're on a
02:20vacation or something. I know growing up, I lived by the beach and there were so many summers and
02:26beach days where I would literally not go in the water because I didn't want to deal with my hair
02:30and something this easy is putting it half up, half down. You don't really have to like worry about
02:34what it looks like and it's still out of your face. Just go in the water because I regret that so
02:39much. And now I just embrace it and have fun styling it. Now that we're done securing the ponytails and
02:45put in the texture to hide the elastics. The last step is a hair oil. This is the rose styling oil.
02:51I'm just going to put this at my ends, rub it in my fingers and then split my hair and rake it
02:57through. I love this hairstyle if it's like day three or four whenever you're coming up on wash day
03:03so your roots are a little greasy but you still have ends that are hydrated. You just kind of refresh
03:07them with some oil. Slick back your hair to hide any grease that you might be coming up on and you're good to go.
