00:00Freedom means that no situation can stop your spiritual growth.
00:09Freedom means that no situation and no desire is viewed as a justification for a sinful response.
00:18That is freedom.
00:18People of God, grace and peace to you all in that wonderful name of Jesus Christ.
00:33Before we jump into a word of encouragement, I want us right now to just have a moment of prayer together.
00:43Let us pray.
00:44Lord Jesus Christ, help us to recognize the role we must play to maintain what we are about to receive from you today.
01:14I want you to say that right now.
01:18Say up to me, Lord Jesus Christ, help me to recognize the role I must play.
01:38To maintain what I am about to receive today.
01:50Just take a moment and offer that prayer.
01:58We have a role to play.

02:18Ask God to help you recognize that role.

02:45I will take this word of encouragement from a conversation I had actually just two days ago with a young man who had received prayer some time ago related to an addiction.
03:04He was going through many years of addiction to alcohol and a host of other issues that came with that addiction.
03:18And he had received prayer.
03:22And I spoke to him as a follow-up to say, Brother, you have received prayer some time ago.
03:28How are you doing?
03:29How are you maintaining what the Lord has done in your life?
03:33So, the answer the brother gave is very informative.
03:38And I think it will provide a practical lesson for all of us connected here today.
03:44He said to me, Brother Chris, I want to thank God.
03:47Since you prayed for me, I have not taken any more alcohol.
03:52Thank you, Jesus.
03:54Testimony.
03:55Glory be to God.
03:56But, someone for 10, 15 years who had been in the bondage of addiction after prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, he had not touched alcohol for that past month.
04:13He said to me, Brother Chris, I have not taken any alcohol.
04:16But, there is often a but for us as humans.
04:21That's very common.
04:23I'm sure you will realize that.
04:24Oh, I know God has done this, but there's this problem.
04:29I have this testimony.
04:31God has turned the situation around here, but there's another issue.
04:36So, in this case, there was a but.
04:38And I said, okay, brother, tell me, what's going on?
04:41He said, Brother Chris, I have stopped taking alcohol, but I think I still need more deliverance.
04:48I would like you to pray for me again, because just a few days ago, I was seriously tempted with the desire to go back to alcohol.
05:01I resisted it, but that desire to take alcohol came.
05:06So, please, can you pray for me again, for a permanent deliverance?
05:12I said to the brother, I said, my brother, look, can I tell you something?
05:19What you are looking at, as an evidence of bondage, is actually an evidence of freedom.
05:28Let me say that again, what you are looking at, as an evidence of bondage, I still need prayer, I still need deliverance.
05:43The problem has not fully been resolved.
05:46That is actually an evidence of your freedom.
05:51Because deliverance in the name of Jesus Christ does not remove all the desires of this flesh.
06:12But freedom in Christ means you are no longer a slave to those desires.
06:19Meaning, you can't resist them.
06:22You have the strength to say no.
06:25This is a common misconception that people have.
06:32They think that freedom in Christ means a life free from trials and temptations.
06:41A life free from pain or problems.
06:45A life free from hurt or hardship.
06:47A life free from fleshly desires.
06:51That is not freedom.
06:53That is fantasy.
06:56To think that you can go through life without tests, trials, temptations.
07:06Freedom means this.
07:11You are not a slave to your cravings or your circumstances.
07:19When you are free in Christ, you are not enslaved to your cravings.
07:30I want this.
07:31I want this.
07:32You are not enslaved to your circumstances.
07:36I'm going through this.
07:39That's the meaning of freedom.
07:42Because you are free to follow Jesus.
07:50Listen, people of God.
07:53You are not free from life's ups and downs, life's trials and temptations, the lures and the cares of this world.
08:07No.
08:07Freedom does not mean the removal of these.
08:11Freedom means the removal of your enslavement.
08:14Friends, you are free to follow Jesus.
08:21That is what I'm going to title the message today.
08:26You are free to follow Jesus.
08:29Just say that in your home right now.
08:35Personalize it.
08:36Say, I am free to follow Jesus.
08:44If you are with someone, you can tell the person, say, hey, you are free to follow Jesus Christ.
08:55That is what I want to talk about in this word of encouragement today.
08:59Because I've observed something.
09:05There are many people who want to enjoy the benefits of freedom without facing the responsibility of freedom.
09:13In the same vein, there are many people who want to enjoy the seeming benefits of sin without facing the responsibilities of sin's consequences.
09:29Take a moment and think about that.
09:36Many want to enjoy the benefits of the freedom God can give.
09:46They want to enjoy the benefits of freedom without facing the responsibility of freedom.
09:48They want to enjoy the benefits of freedom without facing the responsibility of freedom.
10:14I want to enjoy the benefits of freedom without facing the responsibility of freedom.
10:16I want to turn to a story.
10:20In the Old Testament, this story relates very clearly to the question my brother asked that I referenced earlier.
10:32Brother Gris, I've been prayed for, I'm delivered, but I still have that desire, I still face that temptation.
10:43Does that mean I need more prayer?
10:45I need more deliverance?
10:46The answer is no.
10:47It's an evidence of your freedom.
10:51The fact that you face a desire of this flesh, but resist it, shows you are free.
11:04But, perhaps my brother is watching this message right now.
11:11And for anyone else who has asked a similar question, let me say to you, brother, it costs nothing to walk into freedom.
11:27It costs everything to walk in freedom.
11:32Let me turn to the Old Testament, the book of Numbers, chapter 11.
11:44Now, let me paint the context before I read this verse.
11:50This portion of scripture is dealing with the children of Israel after God had miraculously released them from slavery, captivity in Egypt.
12:07It's a story that I believe we are well familiar with as Christians.
12:14The exodus of the people of Israel from Egypt to the promised land.
12:20How God set them free from a life of slavery, lasting generations.
12:27But I want to take a lesson from Numbers 11, verse 4.
12:37And the scripture says this.
12:39Now, the mixed multitude, take note of that, the multitude, the crowd, the majority, who were among them, yielded to intense craving.
13:00So the children of Israel also wept again and said,
13:05Who will give us meat to eat?
13:08This was a craving for food.
13:13Who will give us meat to eat?
13:19Verse 5.
13:21We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt.
13:27The cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, the garlic.
13:33But now our whole being is dried up.
13:36There is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes.
13:41Oh, let's think for a moment about what's happening here.
13:47To remind everyone of this story.
13:50God has released them from slavery, from bondage, from captivity.
13:56Let's see.
13:56And they're on the journey to the promised land.
14:00Yes.
14:02The journey was filled with trials, challenges.
14:07That is true.
14:09That we are Christians does not make us immune to challenges.
14:14That's, you are more than a conqueror through Christ, does not make you immune to life's trials and temptations.
14:21The difference is, you face them in faith, not fear.
14:25You can be tempted.
14:30Yes.
14:31As a child of God.
14:33But you do not lose control because you have self-control.
14:40It's the fruits of the spirits.
14:43Self-control.
14:44But what happened here?
14:46The multitude who are among them, the scripture says, yielded to intense craving.
14:54Oh, let me tell you, people of God.
14:58The issue here is not the craving.
15:02The issue is the yielding.
15:07Romans 6 verse 16.
15:09Whoever you yield yourself to obey, that is whose servant you are.
15:15It was not just that these people had a desire for that type of food.
15:26It was the fact that they yielded to that craving.
15:33And what happened?
15:35We see from this scripture that when you dialogue with the devil,
15:43your memory of the past is corrupted.
15:57I want you to think about what I'm saying.
16:01When you dialogue with the devil,
16:08your memory of the past is corrupted.
16:13They looked back at their slavery, their bondage,
16:21and said,
16:24we remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt.
16:31Is that not deception?
16:34Oh, the devil is very deceptive.
16:38The fish we ate freely in Egypt.
16:45Egypt where you are in slavery,
16:47where you are in bondage.
16:50Yet, at that moment,
16:52your craving has caused you to have a selective memory,
17:04whereby you focus only on the instant gratification,
17:09rather than the consequences.
17:13Take a listen from what the people of Israel did here.
17:18They looked back at their bondage
17:21and called it freedom.
17:25The fish we freely received in Egypt when they're in slavery.
17:33If you receive freedom from God,
17:38that it's not accompanied by surrender to God,
17:48don't be surprised.
17:51You return to the very prison
17:53He freed you from.
17:56Because the responsibility of freedom
18:02is surrender.
18:07To choose
18:09willingly
18:11to give your life
18:15to the one
18:17who has freely given it to you.
18:21That's the responsibility
18:24of freedom.
18:28The children of Israel
18:30redefined
18:34bondage
18:36as freedom
18:38to justify
18:40their return to it.
18:43Oh,
18:43people of God,
18:46this is something
18:47many of us do today.
18:49We go through a trial,
18:52a tough time.
18:54Begin to dialogue
18:56with the devil within.
18:58We say,
18:59Oh,
19:00remember that time
19:01I was in the world
19:02and enjoying.
19:05Remember that time
19:07I was going out
19:09and enjoying myself
19:12drinking alcohol.
19:16Do you remember that time
19:17I was in that
19:17dubious business
19:19but I had lots of money.
19:21Those were the good times.
19:23You focus
19:24on
19:26the instant gratification
19:28that sin may bring
19:30and ignore
19:31the consequences.
19:32This is the danger,
19:33people of God.
19:36When you are ruled
19:38by fleshly desires,
19:41you will soon be ruined
19:43by them
19:43because cravings
19:45ignore
19:46consequence.
19:49If you are watching
19:50this message
19:51with a notebook,
19:53I want you to write
19:54that down
19:54and think about
19:56what I am saying,
19:57people of God.
19:58If you are ruled
20:00by fleshly
20:02desires,
20:04I want this.
20:08I crave this.
20:11If you are ruled
20:13by fleshly desires,
20:16you will soon
20:17be ruined
20:19by fleshly desires
20:22because cravings
20:25ignore consequence.
20:29think about
20:32what these people
20:33were saying.
20:35Think about
20:36the deception
20:38they fell into
20:39because they yielded
20:41to their cravings.
20:43They looked back
20:45at their past life
20:46of slavery
20:47and focused
20:48on a temporal benefit
20:50calling it freedom.
20:53This is a message
20:55calling for reflection,
20:57people of God.
20:58that's why
20:59I titled this message
21:01You are free
21:02to follow Jesus
21:04because don't think
21:06that freedom
21:07from Jesus
21:09means the removal
21:11of fleshly desires.
21:12Don't think
21:13freedom from Jesus
21:15means the elimination
21:16of trials
21:17and temptations.
21:19No!
21:21In this journey
21:22of life,
21:25yes!
21:26Yes!
21:28we will face
21:29those desires
21:31of the flesh
21:32which the scripture
21:34says are contrary
21:36to the spirits.
21:38Galatians chapter 5.
21:40What the flesh desires
21:42is contrary
21:43to what the spirits
21:45desires.
21:46There's no deliverance
21:48in this world.
21:49There is no prayer points
21:51in this world.
21:52There is no church
21:53you can attend
21:54in this world
21:55that will remove
21:57the reality
21:57of what
21:59we will face
22:01as we traverse
22:03this world.
22:06That's why
22:07when you receive
22:09and accept Jesus Christ
22:12as your Lord and Savior,
22:15the scripture says
22:16you become a son
22:18not a slave.
22:22One of the greatest
22:24lies of the devil
22:25is to deceive us
22:27to think we are
22:29still slaves
22:30not sons
22:31because a slave
22:33has no rights
22:34of choice.
22:36A slave
22:37is not the owner
22:38of his conscience.
22:40So the battle
22:42is already lost.
22:42Let me turn
22:46to Galatians chapter 4
22:47and read that portion
22:49of scripture to you.
22:52Galatians chapter 4.
22:54I'll start this reading
22:55from verse 3.
22:58Even so we
22:59when we were children
23:01were in bondage
23:02under the elements
23:05of the world.
23:06Ho ho!
23:08But when the fullness
23:10of the time
23:11had come
23:12God
23:13sent
23:14forth
23:15his
23:15son.
23:17Thank you Jesus.
23:19Born of a woman.
23:21Born under the law
23:22to redeem
23:23those
23:24who were
23:25under the law
23:26that we might
23:27receive the adoption
23:28as sons.
23:29And because
23:30you are sons
23:31God has sent
23:33forth
23:34the spirits
23:35of his son
23:36into your hearts
23:38crying out
23:39Abba
23:40Father.
23:41therefore
23:42verse 7
23:43you are no
23:44longer a slave
23:46but a son
23:47and if a son
23:49then an heir
23:50of God
23:51through Christ.

24:24deep
24:26message
24:27freedom
24:29in Christ
24:30means you
24:32are not
24:32enslaved
24:33to your
24:34desires
24:35to your
24:37circumstances
24:38that means
24:40you may face
24:41a difficult
24:42circumstance
24:42as a Christian
24:43it will not
24:45mislead you
24:46to sin
24:46rather
24:47it will
24:48draw you
24:48closer
24:48to Jesus
24:49you may
24:51experience
24:51temptations
24:53of this
24:53flesh
24:54the fleshly
24:54cravings
24:55the fleshly
24:56desires
24:56but you
24:57will not
24:58succumb
24:58to sin
24:59in your
24:59desire
25:00to satisfy
25:01them
25:01rather
25:02they will
25:03take you
25:03closer
25:04to God
25:04that shows
25:05you are
25:05free
25:06it doesn't
25:08mean you
25:08will not
25:09be tempted
25:09it doesn't
25:11mean you
25:11won't go

25:12trials
25:13the evidence
25:16of sonship
25:17is not
25:18the removal
25:19of hardship
25:20how you
25:22handle
25:23that
25:23hardship
25:24proves
25:25your sonship
25:26the evidence
25:29of sonship
25:30that you
25:31are a
25:31child
25:31of God
25:32a son
25:33of God
25:33a daughter
25:34of God
25:34not a
25:35slave
25:35to the
25:36flesh
25:36to the
25:37senses
25:37to sin
25:38is not
25:39the elimination
25:40of temptations
25:41it's how
25:42you deal
25:43with that
25:43temptation
25:44the evidence
25:46of sonship
25:47is not
25:50the disappearance
25:51of mistakes
25:52no
25:54it's how
25:55you manage
25:56those mistakes
25:56if a son
25:59makes a
25:59mistake
26:00he takes
26:01responsibility
26:02a slave
26:06chooses
26:07the path
26:08of blame
26:08why
26:11because if
26:13you accept

26:14are a

26:16have agreed
26:17you are not
26:18the owner
26:19of your
26:19conscience

26:23this circumstance

27:24on weakness

27:25frame

27:32accepting
27:33the label
27:34the devil
27:34has placed

27:37not sons
