00:00He will bruise you on the head and you will bruise him on the heel. This is the first mention in the
00:07Bible of bruising, hurting, wounding. In the Bible on Friday night we spoke of the enemy as a
00:15desecrator, the defiler. But here's the first mention of wounding and it's concerning the enemy
00:21and man. The enemy and us. The enemy is a bruiser. He's a wounder. He wants to destroy man. He wants
00:31to destroy the image of God. He wants to destroy you. But if he can't destroy you he will seek to wound
00:38you, hurt you, bruise you, scar you, cripple you. There are those who have reported having marks left
00:46on them from demonic encounters at night. I don't know. But as a spiritual entity the enemy primarily
00:53does not strike the physical realm directly. He uses people. He uses flesh and blood to wound you.
01:02We live in a fallen world. And a bruised world. And a bruised world with, with wounded and scarred people.
01:11Nobody goes through this world without getting hurt. Doesn't happen. Nobody goes in the world
01:16without getting wounds. Because we are with fallen people and we are one of them.
01:22But behind it is the enemy. Because he's the bruiser and the wounder. He's behind the wounds of your life.
01:29Any harm in your life he's behind that. He wounds you. He uses people. He uses events. He uses things
01:36to wound you. To harm you. To cripple you. To scar you. To stop God's purposes from coming to pass
01:44in your life. Wounds come how? Through the anger of man. Wounds come through the evil of man. Wounds,
01:51wounds come through rejection. Through neglect. Through abuse. Through being overlooked.
01:57From being denigrated. Betrayed. Attacked. Verbally abused. Verbally attacked. Physically attacked.
02:05Condemnation. Slander. Betrayal. Judgment. Hatred. Bondage. It can come subtly. It can come overtly.
02:16It can happen over time. Anger often leads to hurt because anger lashes out.
02:23People's anger causes hurt to other people. People often carry hurt and wounds from childhood.
02:30That could be you. Very simply because when you're a child, you're small. You're weak. You're vulnerable.
02:36You're easily affected. You're very impressionable by those who are stronger and bigger and more powerful.
02:43And what happens to a child is formative. It often affects the rest of life.
02:50It can be something that was said to you. Sometimes one word can cause a lifetime of wounds.
02:55It could be something that was said. It could be something that was never said.
02:59It could be love that was never shown. Or you felt it was never shown.
03:03It could be acceptance that was never given. Or you never felt it.
03:07Or you never felt you were good enough. Or worthy.
03:10There are hurts that can come later. Like a relationship.
03:13Being abandoned. Rejected. Abused.
03:16Or could confirm an earlier wound. Or open up new wounds.
03:20There are hurts that come from our own mistakes. Our own failures. Our falling in sin.
03:26It can happen in the body of Messiah. The enemy will use anything he can. Any imperfect thing.
03:31Hurts in the body.
03:32Everybody has hurts. And hurts produce wounds.
03:37And they can take the form in your life of fear.
03:40Living in fear. Living in anxiety.
03:43Living with sensitivity of things you shouldn't be sensitive to.
03:47Or going through life avoiding things.
03:50Or, or retreating.
03:53Or hardening yourself.
03:55Or with anger.
03:57Or bitterness.
03:58Or unforgiveness.
03:59Hopelessness.
04:00Or sorrow.
04:00Depression.
04:02Distrust.
04:04Cynicism.
04:04Negativity.
04:06Or trying to compensate for, for the wound.
04:08Trying to make up for it.
04:10Or trying to numb it.
04:12Addiction.
04:14Shame.
04:15Guilt.
04:15Sense that you're not ever worth much.
04:18Or that you can never measure up.
04:20Or that you're always going to fail or fall.
04:23Or you're going to come to nothing.
04:24Or because you were mistreated people, you might mistreat yourself.
04:29You might sabotage yourself because you don't feel that you're made for victory.
04:34There's no shortage of the waves of hurts and wounds in the world.
04:38It can even affect your relationship with God.
04:41It should be that your relationship with God is affecting this.
04:44But often it's the hurt and the wounds of this world that affect your relationship with God.
04:50You might know better in your head.
04:52You know the doctrine.
04:52You know that.
04:53But your heart and your, your life and your ways are living in the old.
04:58It can affect how you receive or don't receive the Word of God.
05:02The promises of God that say you're accepted.
05:05That say you are loved.
05:07That say there's a promise on your life.
05:09That you don't have to fear.
05:11That you're a royal child now.
05:13That God is your loving Father.
05:16You can actually live in peace.
05:18You can actually live holy and pure.
05:20That you can do all things in Him.
05:22That you're bound for victory.
05:25There's a million ways though that hurt can affect that.
05:28And how you deal with hurt and wounds is important.
05:32It's crucial.
05:33First, how do you not deal with it?
05:36Well one way you don't deal with it is by not dealing with it.
05:39Because if you're still holding it, it's still affecting your life,
05:42but you're not dealing with it,
05:43you're only keeping it going.
05:46Proverbs 32 says,
05:49says when I kept silent, I wasted away.
05:52Now it's talking about sin,
05:54but this, this area involves the sin of the world
05:57and involves these things and becomes that.
06:00All these things, unforgiveness become fear.
06:03But I kept silent, I wasted away.
06:05But when I brought it to God,
06:07I was set free.
06:10How to not deal with sin and wounds,
06:12or hurt, hurt and wounds.
06:13By repeating it.
06:15A lot of times people who are wounded,
06:18wound others.
06:19It says hurt people, hurt people.
06:22You know when you see,
06:23that's not always,
06:24but it's often, way often.
06:26And that is that people often who abuse other people,
06:29were often abused themselves.
06:31So they were abused,
06:32and instead of getting healed,
06:33they abuse others.
06:35Those who are rejected,
06:36may deal with it by rejecting others.
06:39Some people react to hurt,
06:41by trying to, again, to drown it out.
06:43Medication, alcohol, drugs.
06:46Some react to the rejection of man,
06:48by spending their lives,
06:50to make up for it,
06:51by getting the acceptance of man.
06:53Getting the approval of man.
06:55To prove themselves,
06:56they're worthy.
06:57Get validation, I'm okay.
06:59Or to prove,
07:00I'll show them,
07:01I'll prove it this way,
07:02I'll show them they're wrong.
07:04Or by hardening,
07:05building a wall around your heart.
07:07Around your emotions.
07:09Around your life.
07:11Deadening yourself.
07:13Or,
07:14a wounded heart,
07:15is a heart that can be living in anxiety,
07:17all the time.
07:18Fear.
07:18Fear.
07:20And again,
07:20some people,
07:21you know,
07:21there are people,
07:22and you may have known them in your life,
07:23and you may be one of those people,
07:25where they're in a horrible relationship,
07:28abuse or whatever,
07:28and they go into the next horrible relationship.
07:31They keep going.
07:32Why?
07:32It doesn't make any sense.
07:34But it's like saying you've been hurt,
07:35and you kind of take that that's normal.
07:37I don't deserve something more.
07:39And that's normal.
07:40I'm,
07:40my life is to be hurt.
07:41So if they don't hurt me,
07:42I'm going to hurt myself.
07:44There's no shortage how the enemy seeks to mess up the creation of God.
07:51When you don't deal with them,
07:53you know,
07:53when you don't deal with it the way God said,
07:56it keeps going.
07:57And the problem is these are seeds that the enemy has planted.
08:01Those hurts and those wounds act like seeds.
08:04They produce harm in your life,
08:07throughout your life.
08:08And the thing is that if you never deal with it,
08:11it doesn't stop.
08:12It keeps going.
08:13And it keeps,
08:14and or if you let it define your life,
08:17you let it be the main thing in your life,
08:19it's going to keep hurting you.
08:21You let it be the defining thing,
08:23the motivating thing,
08:24the defining thing that's driving you,
08:27it's going to keep on working.
08:29What does God want us to do?
08:31How does God want us to deal with it?
08:33It can change your life.
08:34First of all,
08:34God is concerned.
08:36God speaks in Isaiah 1 to an apostate nation,
08:39a nation that is totally rebellion to Him.
08:41And he says this.
08:45Where are you going to be struck again?
08:47As you continue in this.
08:49The entire head is sick.
08:52The entire heart is faint,
08:56is weak.
08:57From the sole of the foot to the head.
09:00There's nothing healthy in it.
09:02Only bruises and slashes,
09:05cuts and raw wounds.
09:07And they're not pressed out.
09:08They're not bandaged up.
09:10And they're not softened with oil.
09:12He has compassion on them.
09:14He says you've got wounds all over.
09:16And they're,
09:16and they're not being treated.
09:18They're not bandaged up.
09:19They're not,
09:20they're not treated with oil.
09:21There's nothing happening.
09:22They're just open wounds.
09:24And you can walk through life with open wounds.
09:26Never been healed.
09:28Never been bandaged up.
09:29God wants to heal us.
09:32You've heard Isaiah 53,
09:33but I want you to listen to it in a different way right now.
09:37Verse 4.
09:38About Messiah and the Atonement.
09:41Surely He has borne our griefs.
09:44The word griefs here in Hebrew
09:46means anxieties,
09:48sorrows,
09:50maladies,
09:51sicknesses.
09:53And it also means our wounds.
09:55Surely He has borne our wounds.
10:00Next one.
10:01And He's carried our sorrows.
10:03The Hebrew word here for sorrow
10:04means our anguish,
10:06our affliction,
10:07our sorrow,
10:09our pains.
10:11Next verse.
10:12He was wounded for our transgressions.
10:16He was bruised for our iniquities.
10:19Just like it said,
10:20the serpent will strike,
10:21will bruise Him.
10:23We'll bruise Him
10:24and He will crush Him.
10:25But He was bruised
10:26in order to bring us healing
10:27to crush the power of the enemy.
10:29He took our wounds.
10:31He took our bruises
10:32in order to set us free from the enemy.
10:35He was wounded for our transgressions.
10:37He was bruised for our iniquities.
10:38The Hebrew word here is dakah,
10:41which means bruised
10:43and also means beaten
10:45and broken
10:47and struck
10:48and crushed
10:49and destroyed.
10:51The punishment that brought us peace
10:53fell upon Him.
10:56That brought us what?
10:57Peace.
10:57For the word is shalom.
10:59Shalom doesn't just mean peace.
11:00It means wholeness.
11:02Wellness.
11:03As in healing.
11:05Wholeness.
11:05And by His stripes.
11:08The word here for stripes
11:10is the Hebrew word
11:11chabora,
11:13which means not just stripes.
11:15It means again
11:16bruises,
11:17hurts,
11:18and wounds.
11:19By His bruising,
11:21by His wounds,
11:23and His hurts,
11:23we are healed.
11:25We are healed.
11:28Healed.
11:30See,
11:31Messiah,
11:32you read that,
11:32you know,
11:32it's about salvation.
11:33Yeah,
11:34Messiah died for our salvation.
11:37That we might be saved.
11:39But,
11:39what it's saying here also,
11:41He also died
11:42that you might be healed.
11:45You might be well.
11:47You might be whole.
11:49He died for your sins,
11:51but He also died for your wounds.
11:53He wills for you to be saved,
11:55but He also wills now
11:57for you to be healed.
11:59It's not an accident
12:00that what did God do
12:01when He's on earth?
12:02He saved us,
12:03but He healed us.
12:04He was a healer.
12:05People came up to Him.
12:06They were healed.
12:08You know,
12:09and we might think
12:09the greatest healings
12:10are those,
12:11those dramatic,
12:12physical healings.
12:13Somebody couldn't walk
12:14and they walked.
12:15And we've seen
12:16dramatic healings
12:17or instant healings.
12:19But only some people
12:20need that.
12:21But everybody needs
12:23this healing.
12:24Everybody.
12:25Everybody needs healing
12:27from the inside.
12:28The hurt,
12:29the scars,
12:29the brokenness.
12:31And if we made sure
12:32that we came to Him
12:33to be saved,
12:34to the cross,
12:36we have to,
12:37why are we not making sure
12:38we come to Him
12:39for healing
12:40and wholeness
12:41to be made right
12:42and well?
12:44He specifically died for it.
12:46And He carried it.
12:47He carried our sins
12:48and He carried our wounds.
12:51He died,
12:51just like salvation.
12:52He died for all,
12:53but only those
12:54who partake of it
12:55are saved.
12:56He died to bring healing,
12:57but only those
12:58who truly partake of it
13:00will be healed
13:01and well and whole.
13:02You want to be healed?
13:04First you have to deal with it.
13:05You want to be whole?
13:07You want to be free?
13:08You have to acknowledge
13:09that you're dealing,
13:11that you have this.
13:12That you were hurt.
13:13Or that something happened
13:15and that,
13:15it's affected you.
13:16Or that,
13:17whatever that is,
13:17it's affected you.
13:19There are scars,
13:19there are wounds.
13:20And it's okay to deal with it.
13:21It's okay to admit it.
13:22In fact,
13:23in fact God needs you
13:24to do that.
13:25It's okay if you have
13:26to cry about it.
13:27Let it out.
13:28Let it come to the surface.
13:29You know,
13:30a wound that's hidden
13:30is going to be messed up.
13:32Only the wound
13:32that comes to the surface
13:34can be touched,
13:35can be treated,
13:36can be made whole.
13:37Get it out.
13:38It's okay to be angry about it.
13:40Not,
13:40not living in resentment
13:42about the people
13:42because that's the problem
13:43when you try to hide it.
13:44That's when you live it.
13:45But it's okay to be angry
13:46not about the people
13:47but the,
13:47the thing,
13:48the sin,
13:49the evil.
13:50But give it to God now.
13:52Give it to God.
13:53You know,
13:53we are saved from sin.
13:55We have to,
13:55it says we have to confess the sin.
13:58You know what confessing sin is?
13:59We think of it as a,
14:00almost like a,
14:01it's like a drag.
14:02I have to confess it.
14:03You know,
14:03like you want,
14:04like people who want you
14:05to confess their sin,
14:06your sins to them.
14:07You know,
14:07confess it.
14:08You did this.
14:09You know,
14:09but it's not that,
14:10it's for our sake.
14:10Because when you confess it,
14:12you are,
14:12it's the first step
14:13of separating it from you.
14:16Because as long as you hide it,
14:17it's part of you.
14:18But when you confess it
14:19and you're,
14:20you're judging it,
14:21you're saying it's wrong,
14:22you are already taking
14:23the first step
14:24to be free of it.
14:25Same with your wounds
14:27and,
14:27and same with this.
14:28Same with the hurt.
14:30Same with those things.
14:31Same with the things
14:31you've been dealing with.
14:32Let it out.
14:34Let it out.
14:35You are now
14:35a beloved child
14:37of the Most High God.
14:38That is your new identity.
14:40You are not defined
14:42by all that stuff anymore.
14:44The new life
14:45has no scars on it.
14:47And what's he going to do
14:48in heaven?
14:49Says he's going to wipe away
14:50all our tears.
14:51Well you know
14:51he's going to wipe away
14:52all our wounds
14:53and scars.
14:54It says he's wiping away pain.
14:57And there's even more to it.
14:59It's written that
15:00God will cause
15:01all things in your life
15:03to work together for good.
15:04Amen.
15:05If you love him,
15:06everything.
15:07That's incredible.
15:08Romans 8, 28.
15:10That means the scars
15:12and the wounds
15:12and the hurts.
15:13In other words,
15:15they are going to be used
15:16for your good.
15:17He will turn your wounds
15:19into blessings
15:20that you didn't have
15:21and would not have
15:22if you didn't go through that.
15:24It's written in the Psalms,
15:26it was good that I was afflicted.
15:28It was good.
15:30Most of those who came,
15:32most of you who came to the Lord
15:33came because there was
15:34some kind of affliction.
15:35You know,
15:36you were in a situation,
15:36you called out to God,
15:38you, something didn't work out
15:39and you started seeking
15:40something more.
15:41You saw that,
15:41or you just saw this life
15:42is not where it's at.
15:44It's that many,
15:44you saw it more.
15:45What you could think back then
15:47as a curse
15:47led you to the blessings of God.
15:50You found God.
15:51And maybe if everything
15:52was perfect in your life,
15:53which it never is,
15:54nobody has that,
15:55but maybe if everything
15:56was better
15:56and you didn't have
15:57this pain or that pain,
15:58you may not have ever
15:59come to God.
16:00So God used all that
16:02to bring you to Him
16:04and all the blessings
16:05that you know,
16:06He did turn it for good.
16:08So also it means
16:09the rejection's
16:10going to be used for good.
16:11The loss is going to be
16:13used for good.
16:13The heartbreak,
16:14the disappointments,
16:16the brokenness,
16:17the broken dreams,
16:19the abandonment,
16:20the,
16:20all that
16:21led you to redemption.
16:23It's all,
16:23it's also God's going to use it
16:24for blessing.
16:26So,
16:27so there's something
16:28about that here.
16:29You know,
16:30in the natural,
16:31you know,
16:32we,
16:32we don't like pain.
16:33Pain is not though
16:34a bad thing in itself.
16:36Pain is,
16:37by nature,
16:37is to be a good thing
16:39because it's there
16:40to protect your life.
16:41If you didn't have pain,
16:43you'd probably be dead today.
16:45It's there to protect your life,
16:47that you avoid
16:47what could be harmful
16:48to your life.
16:49It's there to
16:50deal with something
16:52that has to get dealt
16:52with in your body
16:53or you have to treat it,
16:54you have to be careful.
16:55It's there to keep you alive.
16:57So the pain
16:58that you feel
16:59like these wounds,
17:01it's telling you something.
17:03There's something
17:04to be dealt with
17:05and God wants to deal
17:06with it for your own blessing.
17:08Joseph was betrayed
17:09by his brothers,
17:10his family.
17:12How many people
17:12have problems
17:13with their family?
17:14Don't raise your hand.
17:15Who were jealous of him.
17:19Some of you
17:19have dealt with that.
17:19who wanted to murder him.
17:22Who sold him into slavery.
17:25He was then falsely accused
17:27of rape and put into prison
17:29all because of his brothers.
17:31Imagine if that happened to you.
17:33Your life is messed up.
17:36Apparently.
17:37You are,
17:38your own family
17:40sold you into slavery
17:42and they,
17:43or they wanted
17:44to murder you
17:45and you end up
17:46in prison
17:47in a foreign land
17:48accused of,
17:49of,
17:49of a crime.
17:50Now imagine
17:51that was you
17:52and your life,
17:53years,
17:53you wanted to do all these,
17:54years,
17:55you might become bitter.
17:57You might be on,
17:58you might have
17:59unforgiveness.
18:00You might be,
18:01might have fantasies
18:02of revenge.
18:03Of what you're going to do.
18:04But Joseph
18:05was reunited
18:07with his brothers
18:07and he didn't do that.
18:10He said,
18:10listen guys,
18:11you meant this for evil
18:13but
18:14God meant it for good.
18:17So think about that.
18:20He knew
18:20that God
18:21was going to use
18:22everything in his life
18:23for good.
18:24And that is what
18:25kept him free
18:27and also what
18:28gave him healing.
18:30He,
18:30he said,
18:31listen,
18:32all this was used
18:33to save multitudes
18:34of people
18:34from dying in famine
18:36because of this
18:37that happened.
18:37It was all God's plan.
18:38And God used it all
18:40to bring about
18:41the fulfillment
18:42of the calling
18:43and dream
18:44of Joseph.
18:45And that's another key
18:46that brings healing.
18:47Think about that.
18:49If, think of it,
18:49this is powerful.
18:50If God
18:50is going to use
18:51everything in your life
18:52for good and is,
18:53think about that.
18:55Then why
18:55what do you have
18:56to be complaining about
18:58and what do you have
18:58to be bitter about
18:59and what do you have
19:00to be wounded about?
19:01What do you have
19:02to be,
19:02what do you have
19:02to be unforgiving
19:04and holding on to
19:05and all depressed
19:06over it
19:06because everything
19:07is now a blessing.
19:10You may not see it
19:11why or how
19:12but it is
19:12and it will be.
19:14But if God
19:14has promised that
19:15even what they did
19:17to you
19:18is a blessing now.
19:19You didn't lose
19:19something.
19:20You're not,
19:21you don't,
19:21you know,
19:21it's one of these people
19:22took something
19:22and it's gone.
19:23No,
19:23you were actually blessed.
19:25So you're going to be
19:26all bent out of shape
19:27over blessing?
19:29You know,
19:29I can understand
19:30if it was a curse
19:31but God has promised
19:31that every curse
19:32He's going to turn
19:33to blessing
19:33so it's all a blessing
19:34so you don't have
19:34those anymore.
19:36You know,
19:36so who knows?
19:37It might have been
19:38to save you.
19:39It might have been
19:39to bless you.
19:40It might have been
19:41to do something
19:41so you could bless others.
19:43And so,
19:44you know,
19:44you can't be bitter
19:45over what is a blessing
19:47for you.
19:48So by faith
19:49you can,
19:50the healing can begin
19:51right then.
19:51I don't have to be
19:52crying over this.
19:53I don't have to be
19:53for my whole life
19:54I don't have this
19:55because they did.
19:55It's a blessing.
19:56God's blessing me.
19:59Release it.
20:01Apaluo it.
20:02You know,
20:03again,
20:03it sounds good anyway.
20:05I'm going to
20:05apaluo it.
20:06And you can rejoice.
20:07You kind of want to
20:08jump up and down.
20:09Apaluo.
20:10It's party time.
20:11Apaluo.
20:12Release it.
20:14Just as pain
20:15was used to save you,
20:16he, he will use this
20:17to do a new work
20:18in your life.
20:20You know,
20:20God, God sometimes,
20:21and remember,
20:22he has to allow
20:22some things in our life
20:24that is not a blessing.
20:25Sometimes he allows wounds.
20:27He allows things to happen.
20:28For instance,
20:28if you're going to,
20:29your child is going to
20:30fall off a cliff
20:31and you know,
20:31and you have to yank them
20:32violently back
20:33and they get hurt
20:34but it's to save their life.
20:35You know,
20:36there's somebody I know,
20:37I mean I know of the story
20:38where he was actually
20:39walking in the fog
20:40and he,
20:41and something happened
20:42where he trips and falls,
20:44hurts himself on the ground
20:45and just beyond,
20:46like a foot beyond
20:47was a cliff
20:48he was going to be killed.
20:49And God saved,
20:50literally saved the man
20:51and used him.
20:52Sometimes it hurt.
20:53God allows certain things
20:55but even that's for blessing.
20:56It's in love.
20:57It's going to bless you.
20:58Listen to Paul.
20:59All the hardships
21:00he went through.
21:02He had a lot of wounds physically
21:03and he may have had
21:04some other wounds too.
21:06He was betrayed
21:07by the people in the church.
21:08You know that?
21:08And he was accused
21:10and all that.
21:11But he says,
21:11I've been in prison
21:13more than anybody.
21:14I've been beaten
21:15so many times
21:15I can't even number it.
21:17I've been in danger of death.
21:19Five times I received
21:20from the Jewish people
21:2139 lashes.
21:22Three times I was beaten
21:24with rods.
21:25I was stoned.
21:26Three times I was shipwrecked
21:28night and day,
21:28adrift,
21:29dangers from the rivers,
21:30from the robbers,
21:32from my countrymen,
21:33from the Gentiles,
21:34in the city,
21:35in the wilderness,
21:35at sea,
21:36false brethren,
21:38sleepless nights,
21:40lack of food,
21:41shelter,
21:42exposure.
21:44He went through more
21:45than most of us
21:45will ever dream of.
21:47And yet
21:47he was never,
21:49never lived
21:50as a victim.
21:52He never,
21:53he didn't complain about it.
21:54He's actually boasting in it.
21:56He never,
21:57he chose
21:58never
21:59to become
22:00a victim
22:00of what people
22:01did to him.
22:02He wasn't bitter.
22:04He didn't let
22:04their problems
22:05become his problems.
22:06He didn't let himself
22:06be defined by what they did.
22:08He only let himself
22:09be defined by what
22:10God did to him.
22:12He blessed,
22:13he radiated
22:14the light of God.
22:15You put him in a prison cell,
22:16he turns it into
22:17a worship service.
22:19You know,
22:19we could have been depressed.
22:20We could be complaining.
22:21We could be talking
22:21about those who did it.
22:22Now forget all that.
22:23Why waste my life with that?
22:25Why mess up my life?
22:26I'm praising God.
22:27He didn't let himself
22:29be defined by the wounds
22:30or the hurts.
22:32Only the grace of God.
22:33He refused
22:34to live as a victim.
22:36He insisted
22:37on living as a victor.
22:40He had wounds too.
22:42He gave them to God.
22:43And he blessed.
22:44So Paul says,
22:46once we were all
22:46children of wrath.
22:48That means we were
22:49wounded too.
22:50But you are no longer,
22:52he says,
22:52you're not a child
22:53of wrath anymore.
22:54Now you are a
22:55beloved child.
22:56Live now as that.
22:58Live as a beloved child,
23:00not as that other one.
