Tapes from the Apostolic Archive: Card. Assente (Classified Audio)

These tapes were discovered during the inventory of private belongings once owned by former U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See, Thomas Bauer. According to handwritten notes on the cassettes, they contain “internal observations” and verbatim recordings of conversations involving His Most Reverend Eminence Cardinal Mario Assente — whether self-recorded or secretly intercepted remains unknown.
The restored and digitized audio fragments retain analog noise from the magnetic tape, including insertion clicks and rewinding sounds.
