00:00In the world of nutrition, there is no debate as fierce as one between the vegetarians and
00:05the non-vegetarians.
00:06But which one is better?
00:08Is it a vegetarian diet or non-vegetarian diet or recently popularized vegan diet?
00:13Let us find out what modern science and Ayurveda has to say about veg and non-veg foods.
00:18I will also share with you my perspective on it.
00:21So if you are confused if you should eat non-veg or not, this is the video for you.
00:26Stay tuned.
00:30Hello friends.
00:31Welcome to FedTuber.
00:32You will be surprised to know that in the 19th century, over 75% of the Indians were vegetarians
00:37and only 20-25% of the Indians were non-vegetarians.
00:41However, today the numbers are completely different with 71% of the Indians being non-vegetarians
00:47and only about 28% of the people being vegetarian.
00:51And there are less than 1% vegans in India who completely abstain from animal-based products
00:56like eggs, milk, milk products, and even honey.
00:59The rise of veganism is probably due to the reports that have come in for the torture
01:03of animals and adulteration in milk.
01:06Even with such a huge paradigm shift, India is still the country with the most vegetarians
01:11in the world.
01:12But what could be the reason of such a sudden change?
01:14Is it western influence or is it backed by science?
01:18What is best for our health, non-veg, veg or vegan diet?
01:22Let us find out.
01:23According to modern science, eggs, chicken, mutton, and other meat sources are extremely
01:27important part of diet as they are rich in protein.
01:30Of course, a majority of people who eat non-veg for health eat it because it has protein in
01:35it.
01:36That's due to the fact that animal protein is considered complete source of protein which
01:40contains all the 9 essential amino acids.
01:44According to DRI, an average person who has a sedentary lifestyle requires about 0.8 grams of
01:50protein per kg body weight daily.
01:52However, if your goal is to improve muscle mass and lose fat, modern science recommends
01:57more protein in your diet.
01:59Apart from protein, animal flesh is found to be rich in several vitamins and minerals
02:03like vitamin B12, niacin, and selenium.
02:07But the opinion of modern science is not unanimous on this theory, and that's the problem.
02:12Every now and then, reports come up regarding the ill effects of meat eating.
02:16There are numerous studies that point out that processed meat is harmful to health.
02:21Then there are other reports pointing out that red meat is cancer-causing while the white
02:25meat is healthy.
02:26Some studies are against this as well.
02:29Some latest reports have even suggested that meat in any form reduces longevity and increases
02:34the risk of cancer and heart diseases.
02:36T. Colin Campbell, an American biochemist who published his famous China study book in 2005,
02:42examined the link between animal products including milk and diseases for 20 years, concluded that
02:49plant-based wholesome diet is the best.
02:51Dr. Campbell pressed that protein derived from animal products including dairy is cancer-causing.
02:57Many more researchers are in tune with this theory.
03:00Also it's no hidden fact now that the greenhouse gas emissions by the slaughterhouse animals leads
03:06to 25% of the climate changes.
03:0980% of the world's farmlands are used for animals which produces only 18% of the world's calories.
03:16The living conditions of these animals are disgusting.
03:19It turns out that what we put on our plate matters a lot.
03:22In conclusion, modern science viewpoint keeps on changing.
03:25However, the general viewpoint is that lean white meat is safe and rich in protein and other
03:30vitamin nutrients like vitamin B12.
03:33Talking about what Ayurveda has to say.
03:35Well, our scriptures do not have a forbidding tone whether you should eat meat or not.
03:40They have clearly mentioned the consequences of eating meat and then the choice rests on
03:45the individual.
03:46Our scripture suggests that food should not just be considered as a source of nourishment
03:51for the body but also as a vibration for the mind.
03:54There are foods in the mode of goodness, there are foods in the mode of passion and then there
03:59are foods in the mode of ignorance.
04:01When an animal is about to get slaughtered, imagine the emotions that it must go through.
04:06That becomes the vibration of the meat and when we eat it, the same vibration resides within
04:11our mind.
04:12Then these vibrations show up in the form of anger, lethargy, depression and ignorance.
04:17The same has been perpetuated in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 17, Verse 10.
04:23Chapter 6 of Ashtang Hridhyam does talk about meat eating.
04:27However, it specifies the meat which has been freshly hunted in the jungles and that too
04:31for special sects of people who does not have access to normal food, mainly Adivasis.
04:37Our scriptures also suggest that since man is the highest evolved animal on earth, it should
04:42eat food which involves least amount of violence, i.e. fruits and vegetables.
04:47Ayurveda recommends getting protein from living foods like dals and sprouts and not dead meat.
04:53Moreover, our saints and sages have propounded that mother nature has not designed human
04:58beings to eat meat.
05:00Physiologically, our teeth resemble more like herbivorous animals.
05:04Our digestive tract is also longer in tune with the leaf-eating animals.
05:09Meat gets rotten quickly, perhaps that is why carnivorous animals have shorter intestines.
05:13Moreover, the structure of nails, the way of drinking water and vision suggests that we
05:19are better eating plant-based.
05:21What about dairy products?
05:22Well, Indian cow has been revered like mother since long in this culture.
05:27Our scriptures highly recommend drinking pure Indian cow milk.
05:31Its ghee or clarified butter is compared to nectar.
05:34So Ayurveda is clear that man, who is the most evolved animal on earth, should eat consciously,
05:40creating the least amount of violence.
05:41For optimum physical and mental health, non-veg food should be abstained from.
05:46However, the choice rests on the person and he shall bear the consequence.
05:50In my opinion, one should eat holistically.
05:53A diet should not just benefit your body and mind, but it should be conducive to other creatures
05:58as well as the environment we are living in.
06:01If you want to achieve the highest level of mental clarity and physical health, be vegetarian.
06:06And if you think it will hinder your fitness goals, then let me tell you that there are
06:10so many examples to show that the best of physical body can also be achieved living on a vegetarian
06:16diet.
06:17And when it comes to milk and milk products, my stance is that you should get desi cow milk
06:21probably from a gaushala near you.
06:23Well, if you are not ready to put in much effort, you should at least try to keep non-vegetarian
06:28food to minimum.
06:29Consume packaged milk products, focus mostly on vegetarian foods.
06:34The choice is yours.
