00:00And Tony, talk to us about Rubio's meeting with Lavrov in Malaysia.
00:05What do we know exactly about this new peace framework and what it means for Ukraine?
00:10Well, this was a meeting that took place on the sides of the ASEAN summit taking place in Malaysia.
00:15They had a 50-minute conversation, the Secretary of State saying that it was an important conversation,
00:22although he didn't get into the details of it.
00:24It was important for a couple of reasons, though.
00:26It was an opportunity to meet face-to-face with a Russian official,
00:30but also an opportunity to really relay and convey this growing frustration from the White House
00:37over the pace of these peace negotiations.
00:40He did say that they talked about this new approach to a peace deal,
00:45although he warned that it would not guarantee peace in Ukraine.
00:50It was something he said he was going to bring back to U.S. President Donald Trump to consider.
00:54But we don't have any details on what this new approach could potentially look like.
01:00We know what Russia has been after in these previous negotiations.
01:03It wants Ukraine to demilitarize.
01:06It wants it to not join NATO, to also recognize the land that Russia has seized,
01:13not just in this ongoing war, but also in Crimea.
01:16And these are red lines, some of these things for Ukraine.
01:20So it really raises a lot of questions about what a new approach could really look like.
