00:00Good evening, Mary. Good evening, Tam. Ladies, you both know the rules. Obey my commands and protect yourself at all times. Please touch clothes now. Come out fighting at the bell.
00:18Third professional fight for Tam T-Bone, but a long and storied amateur career.
00:23A lot of butterflies on both sides here, particularly for Mary Casamasa stepping up in class. She has been dominant, but you know, Sadisa, the first time you're facing an opponent with that real resume, you can feel it. You feel it right away.
00:36Definitely. And as you said, Sean, she has all the tools. She has the amateur background. She has the height. She has the reach. And she has a nice straight left hand.
00:46What you've seen, a ton of fighters making the transition. You've had long amateur careers to becoming pros. What's the hardest transition?
00:54The hardest thing, I think, when you have a long amateur background is to settle down, to be settled and to kind of get down that pro style.
01:03And with two minute rounds, that's hard to do. So, you know, it's great that she's already fighting three minute rounds.
01:09I think that she's going to be more patient and more calm and be able to set up her straight left.
01:13And this is a big issue. We got a little, it's ironic that we get an extra minute in each round here to talk about this issue because it is a significant one in women's boxing.
01:22It has played part of one of the many subplots of the main event with Taylor and Serrano about was there going to be an extra minute or not.
01:29The obvious argument at one point was that why aren't women fighting three minute rounds because obviously they're capable or past the point of having that part of the discussion.
01:38But two minute rounds clearly are more exciting. So where do we find the balance, right?
01:43They are more exciting, but I feel like women who have long amateur backgrounds want those three minute rounds because they're more skilled.
01:50So I think some women don't want to fight two minute, three minute rounds, which is fine, but some should be able to choose who are at a higher skill level and have that amateur background and experience.
02:01What changes in a fight that has a third minute in a round? Are there some fighters that are just going to have difficulty making that adjustment?
02:10I think it's easier to get a, to get a knockout with three minutes. I think you're able to set up shots. You're able to stay patient and think a bit more.
02:17Now you see Tantebo opening up the overhand left created this opportunity here. She's using the jab very well now.
02:32We talked a lot about the early days of women's boxing, right, where you were fighting in front of small crowds and things like that. And that can throw a fighter.
02:37You know, Tantebo has had big fights and big stages in the Olympics. So she's not used to fighting very early in the day.
02:43Not used to fighting very early in the day. Yes. But it's something that, you know, we have to do as a woman, you know, to, uh, to make our way to the top.
02:51But for her to fight at Madison Square Garden is incredible. And I'm sure she's extremely excited about it and just loves the pressure and the atmosphere of it.
03:00Good right jab from Casamasa. She opened up and paid a big price.
03:04And that straight left did it in that final combination. She has very, very nice straight left. It's sharp. It's strong.
03:24Somebody smart sitting next to me just said you can get more knockouts than knockouts. It's pretty better how.
03:29Yeah, she seems very calm and, and like I said, just patient. And she's able to set up that straight left.
03:34Which she absolutely did. A memorable first round of Madison Square Garden.
03:39Just a bigger aspect of what keeps bringing everybody else after holding the left.
03:49Yeah.
03:55So, uh, 400 meters, I'm in ten thousand航 cap.
04:03Sorry about that.
04:07and here he sees it nice combination right hook to the body and she comes up top with that
04:20straight left that puts her opponent down
04:23safe to say mary kasemasa has not fought fighters where she could come in after that jab
04:32and she would open up like that oh definitely and she's using her jab very well this fight so
04:37it's gonna be hard to get through
04:48and that bodywork that was great bodywork to open up that straight left to the head
04:52and with three minute rounds you're able to do that you're able to work the body and the head
04:56or you could choose in a certain round okay in this round i want to work the body more instead
04:59of working the head in two minutes you kind of have to put both together or do either or
05:04you see kasemasa a little more tentative now trying to come in behind that jab
05:09kasemasa has to do has to add some feints to try to get past the jab right now she's kind
05:26just stationary and doesn't really know how to get inside and get past the jab
05:36this is the step up right the step up fight and all of a sudden you're fighting someone that's doing
05:41things you've never seen before and she's fighting a southpaw which southpaws aren't really used to
05:48fighting southpaws so it's probably a bit different for her
05:53now it's a lot more one and done for mary kasemasa which has been good enough in her first six fights
05:59it's also a great opportunity if you're tuning in this early obviously you're into this from the
06:09beginning but but now it's a big left and a combination followed with the right you see
06:14vivo is throwing two shots at a time and kasemasa is just much slower
06:19what i was going to say if you're tuning in this early in the day
06:23one of the fun parts about it is you get to hear things you would not normally hear
06:27because the crowd being small you hear the referees you hear the corner instructions
06:32yes you can hear those straight laughs
06:42how much of your corner instructions could you hear during the fight that's all i hear no
06:46matter how big or how loud the crowd is you're just locked in and only hear your corner
06:55if i could do the same thing with my wife work out really well
07:01see now kasemasi clearly trying to figure out a puzzle that she has not seen before
07:08the jab and by timbolton is just very very sharp and very accurate it's difficult for kasemasa to to
07:16get past that but she's got to do something she's got to add some feints use her footwork a bit more
07:21upper body movement which is what you're telling her in the corner right that's exactly what i'm
07:25telling her that's what i hope her that's what i hope her quarter's telling her
07:32tebow looking very patient not a veteran pro put a long time veteran in the ring and she has looked
07:38very good through two rounds
07:57all right you go to that body when you get there you're stopping your passion and he's going to break it up he's going to let you work
08:04cause you're throwing your shit jack buk who is from pittsburgh a retired police officer from pittsburgh
08:16see the black and gold
08:26all right how does how does kasemasa change the momentum
08:45kasemasa has to as i mentioned have some some feints some upper body movement to um
08:52um to make timbol think a bit you know she's just very stationary but um that's something that
09:01you have to like you said at this skill level you're going to fight at this level you're going to fight
09:06opponents who are as skilled as timbol you have to be prepared for that you have to be able to make
09:09these adjustments can't just be one dimensional because against a fighter like timbo you have to
09:15be able to get past that jab she has a huge reach advantage and we'll talk about this throughout the
09:22course of the evening but one of the things about the women's game is that there are these elite
09:27fighters you get there very quickly in these divisions some of the divisions are deeper than
09:32others but you could very quickly six seven eight professional fights in you could be facing top
09:37contenders and that's what's happening to kasemasa and she is taking on a little more than she could
09:42handle to the first three rounds she has gone to school here stop no punches and it seems every
09:53fighter and katie taylor in the main event no exception has had setbacks at the amateur level
09:58it was a colossal disappointment for timbo at the olympics in paris gotta find a way obviously to put
10:05that behind you and this is pro boxing's game it comes from that loss you know pro boxing is so
10:09different if your goal is to turn pro after the olympics or after amateur boxing um it's all about
10:16what you do in the pros and she's adjusting very well especially with these three minutes i love it
10:21i would like to see her go back to the body because that's what opened up
10:24the head shot that straight left was working the body first
10:32mary now you at home can hear or wherever you are on your device can hear the instructions from the
10:36corner and you see mary kasemasa responding moving left she had gotten flat-footed particularly after
10:43she caught that first big shot got knocked down around one sometimes you got to be reminded to go
10:47back to doing what you're supposed to be doing overhand left set up that right tried it again flipped her again
10:55first time we've seen kasemasa throw really a combination in a couple of rounds
11:18people's got to keep that jab out there even if it's not landing just touch it just leave it out there to
11:22create that distance
11:29very patient start in round number one for tamtebo eventually scoring the knockdown and she is in
11:34most of you know what is to come tonight and obviously so much conversation about taylor and serrano three
11:54that we have waited a half decade for the third fight in this rivalry and the bills and the bills and
11:59the bill but tonight as they say in the uk this bill is spectacular alicia baumgarner and the co-mate event
12:06the return of savannah marshall if you haven't seen ellie scotney fight you are going to want to be
12:12on netflix at eight o'clock because that is a show you are not going to want to miss she is spectacular
12:18i know i'm trying to just see it's getting hurt about
12:35and again the overhead left this time sam tebow looking for it early
12:51using the jab there's the jab you wanted to see setting that up
12:54that jab is going to set up her straight left
13:06and if i was in people's corner i would be telling her use that jab double jab triple jab to land that
13:13straight left to get a bit closer also work the body first to open up the head
13:25what's the first thing you look for when you're seeing fighters in the first time
13:29the first thing i look for always automatically my eyes go to the feet footwork footwork is um
13:36that's also defense believe it or not it's not just offense which is something that i learned very
13:44early as an eight-year-old uh the fundamentals which starts with your feet first a lot of people think
13:49it's your hands but it's actually fundamentals start with your feet and your hands falling that seems like
13:54something you learn the hard way it's something that to me comes naturally to a lot of others it doesn't
14:00come naturally but at the same time you can learn it you can you it can be taught
14:07all right teaching somebody how to box is actually easier than teaching somebody how to
14:11fight why because you're you're born a fighter you can't make somebody fight you can't teach
14:16somebody how to fight but you can teach them how to box and move
14:23mary kasamasu she has been taken to school she's trying to learn on the fly here
14:26but kasamasu kasamasu is a fighter you can see that in her might not have the footwork or the
14:35skills of people but she's she's a fighter she's trying to trying her best she's trying to figure it
14:40out you can see her trying to figure out that overhand left and the reach advantage continues to be
14:44significant
14:52tam tebow bandwagon gaining steam here if you've never seen her fight before
15:00there's going to be a lot of opportunity we said in her weight class
15:08the profile win in a big performance like this is going to put her big time on the map
15:12very good weight class and i can see her being being a world champion at this weight class
15:19and very quickly as you mentioned for for women it's different there's not many opportunities and
15:24not many women so you can be a world champion very early in your career you're also 28 years old with
15:30years and years of high level amateur experience now the combination back to the body yep that right
15:36sort of the body is what's going to do it always been good stuff
15:50you get there you got to be low and centered and rip to the body move with her your legs are gone so
16:17you've got to go strong she hurts you a bit all right sam tebow sinis has been throwing in
16:22combinations all night and here we see that jab followed by the straight left powerful straight
16:27left and right there is where she needs to go back to the body because that's going to open up that
16:33knockout shot
16:45you see the concern that was over the left eye of casa maso
17:05seems fine seems like she wants to keep going i don't think there's an issue no cut
17:15no major surprise when you look at those numbers
17:32first one if you're just clicking on late it resulted in a knockdown in the first round
17:36and ironically in this fight which would be the only fight tonight we see with three minute rounds
17:45came in the third minute of that first round
17:51casa maso is having trouble getting through that long reach of debolk
18:06i always love when a corner shouts out you've got nothing to lose this fighter in the ring's got
18:22something to lose
18:22that has been the punch of the fight for t-boy has been the overhand left yeah the jab has set it up
18:35but she has landed that often early and often
18:41and with three minute rounds you have time to work the body and focus on that a bit more so i'd love to
18:47see her go back to that
18:53driving casa masa backwards working the body swinging for that big left hook
19:02and that body shot is what casa mesa is still feeling and she takes another one and we are done in round five
19:09it started as a mismatch and tab tebow just poured it on a gallant performance from mary kasomasa but she was outmatched from the start
19:23great performance and great stoppage uh with those three minute rounds she just looked calm confident and patient
19:29and just waiting to set that stoppage up i was just about to mention the performance bonus that jake paul
19:38and nikisa badarian and leila ali are going to vote on later tonight and before i even had a chance it was
19:44almost as if the thought bubble was in tam tebow's head oh definitely i'm sure it's in all of their minds but
19:50uh it's it's tough with all the pressure of the 250 000 bonus and then the crowd fighting on msg fighting at msg
19:58there's a lot of pressure so you have to just stay focused on your game plan and that's exactly what she did tonight
20:05the true north strong and free and proud canadian tam tebow opens the show at madison square garden in style
20:12here we see the replay of the combination to the head and that right hook to the body right there is
20:22what kasumi was still feeling trying to hang on
20:28as tebow comes with that left uppercut followed by another body shot and that straight left that did
20:34the job it's a good stoppage by charlie fitch
20:37and here's that right hook to the body
20:45see it right there casa mesa tries to hold on you're right body shots are not they're not fun
20:53they're not fun at all it was the body shot that made her lean forward and that was almost the first
20:57sign of surrender yeah she should be taking a bow that wasn't a fight that was a performance
21:07come to new york city and broadway and take a bow tam tebow
21:25big mo will make it official
21:42ladies and gentlemen
21:48referee charlie fitch
21:50calls a stop to this contest at two minutes 18 seconds of round number five declaring your winner
21:58by tko and still undefeated tam
22:11we talked about three minute round city so we got a knock down in the third minute and we got a knock
22:16we got a knock down in the third minute and we got a knock out in the third minute and we got a knock out in the third minute and we're looking forward to this
