00:00A couple forever rivals meet in what could be the final chapter of one of the most important
00:05rivalries in boxing history with Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano headlining at Madison Square Garden.
00:13The last time they did it was the first time it was a female main event at Madison Square Garden.
00:18Now it's just two of the all-time greats going head-to-head trying to settle a score.
00:23This is your preview for Katie Taylor against Amanda Serrano III from Madison Square Garden.
00:30It is an epic rivalry that has been very, very close and it maybe comes to an end this weekend.
00:47Tonight, actually, as it is Katie Taylor against Amanda Serrano for boxing greatness, basically.
00:55There's unified titles on the line, yes, but there is a number one pound-for-pound ranking
00:58that is up for grabs as well, and maybe goat status also.
01:04So, you know, no pressure going into this big bout at Madison Square Garden.
01:07So, let's break it down.
01:09You have Katie, the Bray Bomber-Taylor, who is 39 years old, standing at 5'5",
01:14with a 66-inch reach out of the orthodox stance, born in Bray, Ireland.
01:20And she now trains in Connecticut with a record of 24-1, 6 wins by knockout, 18 requiring the
01:27judges' scorecards, including the last one, where she picked up a decision win over Amanda
01:31Serrano on the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul undercard in November of 2024 at AT&T Stadium.
01:39She has two wins over Amanda Serrano.
01:41Neither of them have been overly popular, as Serrano outlanded her in the last bout.
01:47I believe in both bouts, actually.
01:49She's 2-0 against Serrano, both by decision.
01:51She is 3-0 against fighters with the last name of Serrano, because she beat Amanda's sister,
01:57Sydney, back in 2018.
01:59Taylor had a 13-fight win streak snapped by Chantel Cameron, who she then avenged that
02:05loss against.
02:06Her last KO win was in 2019 against Rose Volante in a unification bout at lightweight.
02:11She is the undisputed, super lightweight champion, and with her opponent this evening, is the
02:17first woman to headline a boxing card at Madison Square Garden.
02:21The challenger is Amanda, the real deal Serrano, 36 years old, at 5'5 and a half, with a 65-inch
02:27reach.
02:28She is a Southpaw, who now resides in Brooklyn, New York, after being born in Puerto Rico.
02:33She is 47-3-1 on the career, with 31 wins by knockout.
02:38There's also a no contest on the resume there.
02:42Her last fight was the unanimous decision loss against Taylor back in November of 2024.
02:48She has lost to Taylor twice.
02:50The loss in the first one ended a 28-fight winning streak.
02:53The loss in the second one ended a 6-fight win streak.
02:56She certainly brings more knockout power into the cage, or into the ring, sorry, with knockout
03:01wins in 7 different weight classes.
03:03She is the unified featherweight champion, holding multiple belts there, and has won the
03:09most titles in women's boxing history, with 7 divisions that she can claim a crown to.
03:15This is the rivalry of all rivalries in women's boxing, and has really put both fighters on
03:23the map to the point where they are headlining a show on Netflix coming up later on tonight.
03:28Part of it has been the action, part of it has been just how good these boxers are.
03:34They have put on two absolutely classic fights, and they are, I think without a shadow of a
03:41doubt, the fighters of their generation.
03:43The issue is that part of the build for this is around the controversy.
03:48I've said it in the lead up to it.
03:50Not often do you lose twice to someone and get a trilogy fight out of it, especially immediately
03:56after the second one.
03:57But that's where we are at right now, because 62% of the media scored the second fight for
04:03Serrano, and both times you have both of the first two fights.
04:092022 at Madison Square Garden, it's a Taylor split decision with two judges seeing it 96-94
04:15for Taylor, and one seeing it 96-94 for Serrano.
04:20You have Taylor in the second one getting it 95-94 on three judges' scorecards.
04:27So we are talking about razor, razor-thin margins between these two.
04:34And so to say that it is for the undisputed championship today, this rivalry has been anything
04:39but undisputed, despite one side being undefeated over the other.
04:44It is a classic matchup where you have the technical boxer, the counter-striker in Taylor,
04:50going up against the volume power puncher that is Amanda Serrano.
04:55A lot of people are picking Serrano in this fight.
04:58A lot of people are saying this one will go to a decision, which I think that there is
05:02no reason to believe that it won't.
05:04I do think if you want a bit of a value play, just to take the under on that and say,
05:08yeah, you know what, at some point, these two who are both past the age of 35, one of
05:13their chins may fail at some point here, or a clash or whatever, like we saw a pretty bloody
05:18fight in that second encounter.
05:20So if you want to take just that the judges won't be required, I think there could be a
05:24little bit of value in that.
05:26A lot of people are picking Serrano because you can make a very compelling case that she
05:31won the first two fights.
05:33I do think there is a little bit of oversimplifying going on with that.
05:37A lot of people thought Serrano won the first two, as mentioned.
05:42But I don't think it was, well, yeah, she won by nine rounds.
05:46I don't know what we're talking about here.
05:47Like, if Taylor is winning, then she is winning by one or two rounds.
05:52So it's not like neither fight has been close and Serrano just was robbed or something like
05:58that.
05:59These have been very, very close fights.
06:01And this likely will be that again.
06:03I do think, though, coming off of a second fight where she thought the judges didn't
06:08go her way, I do think that Serrano is going to adjust things a little bit.
06:15And I don't think she can put more pressure on, but I do wonder if she looks for, and it's
06:19because you want to say like, oh yeah, more impactful shots.
06:22She was landing more impactful shots in this.
06:23But I just wonder if there is a bit more of a change in the game plan to make sure that
06:28she doesn't get hit as much and make it a little bit more judge friendly.
06:33Like, I just, I feel like she is going to adapt things a little bit in this one.
06:36Not that Taylor won't, but I feel like Serrano has a few more ways that she can kind of improve
06:43on and alter things from the first couple of fights that will allow her to get the win
06:47here.
06:47So I know that it has been the trendy pick.
06:49I am going to pick Serrano, but not just because, oh, well, she actually won the first
06:52two fights.
06:53It is because I think that there is going to be a couple of adjustments made from her
06:57camp to maybe make this a little bit more on the judge friendly side to try to get a
07:04little bit more, a little bit more involved when it comes to winning these fights.
07:10And I also think that there was maybe a recognition that she started a little bit too late in the
07:15last one.
07:15And I think that's probably not going to be the case in this bout.
07:18So I am picking Serrano to win this one.
07:20If you want to go the conspiracy route, if Taylor wins this fight, it's done.
07:26If Serrano wins this fight, you can probably do one more, at least, maybe even two.
07:31So in terms of maybe hoping the cash cow can continue, I do wonder if maybe the judges
07:38have a bit of a lean on the Serrano side coming up tonight.
07:41But overall, there isn't a whole lot that separates these two.
07:45They are incredibly talented.
07:47They are incredibly tough and they are incredibly evenly matched.
07:51And I think it's going to be a phenomenal bout coming up on Friday night.
07:56I just think Serrano has a bit of the edge going into this trilogy bout.
