Transcript
00:00So we're here at Gelatistry in Shrewsbury and we're with Tom.
00:03Tom, you're from Colham Primary School?
00:05Yeah, I'm the head teacher of Colham.
00:07Cool. And what's been going on? A bit of a competition involved, yeah?
00:11Yeah, it's one of our many house competitions we have for all the children.
00:15It was to design a new flavour of gelato to sell over the summer here at Gelatistry.
00:20And we had pretty much every child in the school sent in an entry.
00:25And we were going to have one final winner, but we had so many good ones,
00:28we've ended up having two winners, one from Key Stage 1, the younger children,
00:31and one from Key Stage 2, the older children.
00:34And I have to say, both the flavours are absolutely incredible.
00:36They're great, aren't they? We've had a sneaky taste, haven't we? Delicious.
00:40Yep, yep. I don't think I'd be able to decide between the two,
00:44because one's the sorbet and one's the gelato.
00:47So I think I can be safe and say they're both brilliant.
00:51You know what, should we stop messing about? Let's go and get some more. Come on, let's go in.
00:54Absolutely, let's go.
00:58In ice cream there is more crepe, and in gelato there is more milk rather than crepe.
01:04And sugar is about the same, there is a lot of sweet things in the gelato as well.
01:11And also in the gelato.
01:14We'll go with this one first.
01:18So, just to double check, guys, none of you has got any allergy, right?
01:25Yep. Perfect.
01:27This is yours, the one that you designed.
01:31Right, go on, let's get your reaction.
01:33What's it taste like?
01:34It's really good.
01:35Is it? Yeah?
01:36It's very good, try it.
01:37Yeah.
01:38And go on, young lady.
01:40And this one.
01:41Describe the taste, then. Describe the taste of the tiger one first.
01:44Go on.
01:45It tastes delicious.
01:46What can you taste in there? What flavours have we got in there, then?
01:50Orange, dark chocolate, and white chocolate.
01:53Very cool.
01:54And, um, so describe the flavour of yours.
01:58It's quite nutty and milky.
02:00It's really tasty.
02:01And what flavours have you got?
02:02Oh, you've got, um, oh, purple sweet potato.
02:06Very interesting.
02:07Chocolate and coconut.
02:09Cool, I like that.
02:10Perfect.
02:12That's the sweet potato.
02:15And that's the tiger one.
02:19Very cool.
02:21There you go.
02:25Are we going to do a vote at the end?
02:29There you go.
02:30So, where did you get the inspiration from for yours?
02:36Obviously, your school's Colham School, isn't it?
02:38Yeah, we got it.
02:39So, that's the name.
02:39I got it from one of, I got the name from one of my favourite that's when I was three, four, and five.
02:45And I also got the flavours from what colours a tiger has on it.
02:50Is that the tiger comes to tea?
02:52Ah, yeah, see, I know.
02:54Very cool.
02:55And go on, young lady.
02:56Actually, we should ask, what's your name?
02:58Florence Jennings.
02:59Florence Jennings.
03:00And what's your name, young lady?
03:01I'm a new child.
03:02Cool.
03:03And where did you get your idea for yours from, then?
03:05Well, I love to eat taro things, like taro drinks and taro desserts.
03:11Yeah.
03:11I thought it would be really good as a gel actor.
03:13What is taro food, then?
03:16So, taro is a root vegetable, like sweet potato.
03:20Ah, okay.
03:21And, yeah, it's really tasty.
03:23Yeah, you did not really.
03:25Okay, that's pretty cool.
03:26It's a beautiful colour.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Look at that.
03:28So, you were very impressed with all the designs that came in?
03:31Absolutely.
03:31They were all amazing.
03:33Yeah.
03:33It was such a high choice.
03:35Cool.
03:35The side, the winner.
03:37So many ideas.
03:38We may use some more in the future.
03:40Yeah, I know.
03:41So, what's the verdict, guys?
03:43You and Gina?
03:44Yeah.
03:44Yeah.
03:44Yeah?
03:45And, right, have you all had a little bit?
03:49No.
03:49No, because we've got a few coming.
03:50Cool.
03:52Perfect.
03:53Great stuff.
03:53Just one by one, guys.
03:54I'll give it to everybody.
03:55Don't you worry.
03:56So, other than these flavours, what's the general kind of favourite flavour with youngsters
04:01these days?
04:01What do you like?
04:02Go on, shout it out.
04:04Sorbet.
04:05Sorbet?
04:06Yeah.
04:07What flavour ice cream do you normally have if you come here?
04:10Did I hear someone say salty?
04:12Salty caramel.
04:12Salty caramel.
04:13Oh, okay.
04:14Sorbet.
04:14Sorbet.
04:14Yeah.
04:14Interesting.
04:15What about, how does mint fare these days?
04:19When I was a kid, mint was my favourite.
04:21Is it popular anymore?
04:22Yeah.
04:22Is that gone?
04:22Yeah, good stuff.
04:24Me and you, mate, sorted.
04:25Did you really like it?
04:28I really like it.
04:31We should ask our gelato specialist, actually.
04:33What's the popular flavours these days, then?
04:35What's...
04:35Honeycomb.
04:36Okay.
04:37Pistachio.
04:37People love pistachio.
04:38Yeah, yeah.
04:39Um, stachetella, which is like the Italian version of vanilla.
04:43It's like a milk version with chocolate chip.
04:45That's popular as well.
04:46And anything on the mint front?
04:49Or is it kind of...
04:50Yeah.
04:51Is it popular though anymore?
04:52Mint chocolate chip.
04:52It is very popular, but the one we make is a little bit different because we use fresh mint.
04:57We don't use any artificial flick.
05:00Wow, okay, yeah.
05:01Yeah.
05:01It takes a little bit longer to make.
05:03Yeah, yeah.
05:04Well, people watching this of a certain age will remember the old Gino Ginelli adverts.
05:08With a tutti-frutti and mint chocolate chip.
