00:00Newcastle's Quayside is set to come alive once again as anyone's summer in the city returns
00:05with an action-packed programme of free events and activities for all ages.
00:10Running for six weeks throughout the summer holidays, the initiative promises to offer
00:14something for everyone, from families and children to thrill-seekers and culture lovers.
00:20The popular programme, which spans the Quayside and surrounding areas,
00:25is delivered in partnership with trusted local businesses. In 2024, NE1 teamed up with 24 local
00:31partners to deliver more than 75 activities, drawing over 3,300 participants. This year,
00:38organisers say the line-up is set to be even more exciting, with a range of experiences aimed at
00:44engaging the community and attracting visitors to the heart of the city.
00:48So we've got loads of exciting activities lined up for our Summer in the City programme this year.
00:52We've got a range of fitness classes, so we're working closely with City Baths
00:55and Dance City to provide some classes. So City Baths are providing HIIT workouts and they're also
01:02running some age well classes too, which is for kind of an older demographic who are looking to
01:06kind of increase mobility and just make sure you kind of continue that movement and improve balance.
01:11And then also Dance City are going to be running Zumba classes too, every Thursday at 6pm.
01:16So whether you want to just kind of try it out for the first time or pick up a new hobby,
01:19they'll be running weekly as well. And it's just a really fun, exciting way to kind of get moving
01:24and get active in the city and try something new. We're also running some kids activities too,
01:29so we're working with Seven Stories again this year to do some storytelling. So every Wednesday at 11,
01:35we'll be running some little storytelling sessions that are themed every week just to kind of engage
01:40children and just give them something like something nice and interactive to do over the summer.
01:45We'll also be running kids clubs as well with Let's Party. So they're doing their Teddy Bear Picnic again,
01:51which is really popular every year. It's really cute as well. It gets all dressed up and they all
01:55bring their teddies. It's so sweet. And they were also brand new for this year, bringing in Toon Takeover,
02:00so it's a bit of a football fun themed event for the kids to get involved in. We're also doing the
02:04kayaking again this year. It was super popular last year. It's completely free to attend to the Summer in
02:10the City Programme. You can get out on the Tyne, try something new and get kayaking and have a tour
02:15along the river actually on the water, which is just super cool. So brand new for this year,
02:20we are running the Quayside Carnival, which is basically a family fun filled day out. So it's
02:25completely free to attend. It's taken place on the 9th of August and there's going to be absolutely
02:29loads of activity. So we're going to basically have an all day circus between 11 and 3 p.m.
02:34and let circus are going to come along and run some performances. They're going to be doing some
02:40workshops as well, so kids can kind of get hands on and learn some new tricks. And then also they're
02:44bringing their aerial rig as well. So they'll be doing some tricks in the air, looking over the
02:48quayside as well, which will just be spectacular. We're also working on some different make and take
02:52zones as well. So craft slime making, bath bomb making, all sorts of different things to get involved in.
