Transcript
00:00Love, in this sense, is a force that draws us out of ourselves,
00:04connecting us to others and to the greater truths of existence.
00:08It reflects our desire to transcend the limits of the material world and touch the infinite.
00:14In loving someone, we glimpse the possibility of unity and harmony,
00:19of overcoming the isolation that defines so much of human life,
00:23yet even within this idealistic view of love, there is an acknowledgement of its complexity.
00:28Love is not always pure or selfless.
00:32It is often mixed with desire, jealousy, fear, and even suffering.
00:36In the writings of the existentialists,
00:39love becomes a reflection of our struggle with freedom and individuality.
00:44Jean-Paul Sartre, for example, saw love as a conflict between the desire to possess the beloved
00:49and the recognition that the other person is free with their own will and autonomy.
00:54In Sartre's view, love is a paradox.
