00:00I see Omar's daughter behind you there.
00:02Hello, Omar's daughter.
00:04Say hi, Mila.
00:08She's adorable.
00:09You got some French fries.
00:10Tomorrow's National French Fry Day.
00:11Maybe we'll have her back out for National French Fry Day.
00:15Omar Kelly, he's on the Toyota of Hollywood Hotline,
00:19columnist for the Miami Herald,
00:21and he did his share of radio this morning, by the way.
00:24He did four hours this morning filling in for Joe,
00:26so we appreciate you giving us more radio time today,
00:30but we had to call him into duty
00:32because it is National Pina Colada Day,
00:34and Omar had stunned me several weeks ago
00:38when he declared the Pina Colada Slurpee at 7-Eleven
00:42the top Slurpee flavor at 7-Eleven,
00:46which I thought was always a debate between Coke or cherry.
00:50I didn't even think that there was another flavor in the mix,
00:53and then Omar's like, no, Pina Colada,
00:55and then a bunch of people were responding on text and Twitter,
00:59like, yeah, Pina Colada's the best flavor,
01:02which I didn't even know was a regular flavor,
01:04and I never would try it over Coke or cherry.
01:06Those are my only two flavors that I go to.
01:10You could mix it.
01:12You could make a nice flavor slushy,
01:15but Pina Colada is always going to end up half the cup.
01:18Well, are you at a 7-Eleven now?
01:21I am at a 7-Eleven right now.
01:24I'm trying to bless me and my daughter with some Slurpee time,
01:28just since you told me it was Pina Colada.
01:30We're going to go inside and get a Slurpee, okay?
01:32Come on.
01:32Now, this is exciting.
01:34This is very exciting.
01:36And let her pick out anything she wants in the snack aisle,
01:39courtesy of Uncle Channing.
01:40No snacking, no snacks.
01:46She just had McDonald's.
01:47It was a nice bribe so she could be quiet while Daddy does podcast work.
01:52Oh, man, let the girl get some Skittles.
01:54Oh, we'll do that to her.
01:56You know what?
01:57She actually doesn't like candy.
01:58She does not eat candy at all.
02:00Get her zen.
02:03That is true.
02:04Not eating candy and not liking candy are two different things.
02:08No, no, she doesn't eat candy.
02:10Is that her opinion or is that your opinion?
02:13Are you saying she doesn't like candy and she's thinking to herself?
02:18No, see?
02:19She doesn't like sweets.
02:22It's a weird thing.
02:23I'm not, you know, she'll give you all her Halloween candy.
02:26Now, she'll drink a Slurpee now.
02:29What's her go-to flavor?
02:31I don't know.
02:32What's your go-to flavor?
02:33What flavor are you picking, Mila?
02:34Okay, you didn't even look.
02:37A Colossal Cherry.
02:38Are you sure?
02:39There you go.
02:40Mm-hmm.
02:41Okay.
02:42Now, you know, tomorrow is 7-Eleven, Omar.
02:46It's July 11th, which means free Slurpees at 7-Eleven.
02:50So, you've got to take her back tomorrow.
02:51Are you serious?
02:52Free Slurpees at 7-Eleven?
02:54Yeah.
02:54Yeah.
02:54That's the little tiny ones.
02:56The little two-ounce ones, though.
02:57Yeah.
02:58It all counts, though.
03:00It all counts.
03:02Now, do they have pina colada there?
03:04Yeah, absolutely.
03:05They have pina colada here.
03:06It's sitting right here.
03:10Look at that.
03:11Yeah.
03:12Look at that.
03:12Oh, you want the – hold on.
03:13That's zero flavor.
03:15You probably want the deep blue.
03:17See, now you guys have opened up Pandora's box here.
03:19No, I love this.
03:20I can do this all day long, man.
03:23I love this.
03:24Hold on.
03:24She's going to get us some – hold.
03:27You hold it.
03:27You pull it.
03:28You pull the lever.
03:29Go ahead.
03:29Pull it down.
03:31Me and family getting Slurpees together like that.
03:33That's my favorite – some of my favorite memories with my son.
03:38Pulling up to 7-Eleven, getting a Slurpee, man, and a couple of scratch-offs.
03:42Does she do the scratch-offs yet?
03:44No, she doesn't do scratch-offs yet.
03:46No.
03:46Get her a scratch-off from Uncle Marky.
03:48Okay.
03:50All right.
03:50One dollar scratch-off.
03:51No, no.
03:53Uncle Marky does $20 scratch-offs.
03:57I'll zell you.
03:58I'll zell you.
03:58Uncle Marky doesn't waste his time with dollar scratch-offs.
04:02You really do $20 scratch-offs?
04:05If they don't have any 30s, then yes, I'll do a 20.
04:11Don't think I'll go home, baby.
04:13They have $50 scratch-offs now.
04:15Are you serious?
04:16Yeah.
04:17Man, that's a lot of money to throw down the drain from one scratch.
04:20You got to bet big to win big, Omar.
04:24You got to bet big to win big.
04:26How often do you win big?
04:28Oh, I haven't yet.
04:30But I figure in my next 55 years, maybe I'll hit a big winner.
04:38Didn't you hit one of those?
04:40Crowder, didn't you hit one of those things where you got every prize that was on the scratch-off?
04:45Yeah, I've hit an $800 scratch-off.
04:48Man, not me.
04:50It was a $50 scratch-off and paid $800.
04:54Yeah.
04:55And how many $50 scratch-offs did you put down to get to that $800?
05:01$200.
05:02So, it probably cost me about $4,000 to get $800, but it was fun the whole way around.
05:09It's like winning the prize at the carnival, you know?
05:13It cost you $600 for the $40 stuffed animal.
05:17You want this?
05:18Okay.
05:18Have you filled the Pina Colada yet?
05:23Have I filled the what?
05:24The Pina Colada Slurpee yet?
05:26Oh, okay.
05:27Pina Colada Slurpee.
05:28We're ready to rock.
05:30Now we're talking.
05:30All right.
05:31Let's take a sip of this.
05:32Let's see your real reaction here.
05:35On National Pina Colada Day, Omar Kelly drinking a Pina Colada 7-Eleven Slurpee.
05:41It is the number one flavor of Slurpees.
05:43No question, no debate.
05:45Very shocked by this.
05:47Very shocked by this.
05:48Everybody, everybody, you got to try a Pina Colada Slurpee.
05:52What else are you getting?
05:56Let me do a scratch off.
05:58Yeah.
05:58I don't know.
05:59There we go.
06:01Get a $20 scratch off, and I'll zell you.
06:03Get a $20 scratch off, and I'll zell you.
06:04Okay.
06:05He wants me to get a number six.
06:07Yeah.
06:09Get a number six.
06:11And a slice of pizza, too.
06:13Slice of pizza.
06:14No, no.
06:15For some pizza?
06:16No.
06:17What is the?
06:20Slice of pizza?
06:23Six.
06:25Hey, get a $10 cash pop, too.
06:27Tell her a $10 cash pop.
06:29I'll zell you.
06:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:30Get a $10 cash pop.
06:32What is a $10 cash pop?
06:35What is this?
06:36What is a cash pop?
06:37That's on the machine.
06:38That's on the machine.
06:38Get a cash pop.
06:40I was in the South the other day proud, and I saw some boiled peanuts.
06:47People all in the grocery store getting their little food.
06:52Nobody likes those boiled peanuts.
06:53They're delicious.
06:55Man, and somebody was telling me, you got to go, you got to get them fresh.
07:00And I'm like, thinking to myself, what is a fresh boiled peanut?
07:04Well, straight out the can.
07:06You know, it's a gray area.
07:08You know, it's coming to a can?
07:10Did you get this?
07:10A big can, like a half-a-gallon can.
07:14Oh, man.
07:15I got something in the refrigerator right now.
07:18Did you get a cash pop ticket?
07:20No, I have no.
07:21It's too confusing.
07:23Okay, thank you.
07:25Go ahead.
07:26I like gambling, but it's not even for me.
07:30Between my daughter and the toy that I'm getting her, the Slurpee, it's a little bit too much.
07:39All right.
07:39So what did she get?
07:40She got the cherry Slurpee?
07:41She got the – no, we only got the pina colada.
07:44She got pina colada too?
07:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:48Look at that.
07:49She loved it.
07:51Yep.
07:53All right, kneel down.
07:54Let's see you and your daughter take a sip of this pina colada.
07:56Okay, maybe 7-Eleven Slurpee.
07:597-Eleven Slurpee.
08:00This is a celebration of pina colada day.
08:03Oh, look at that.
08:05That is adorable.
08:06You got the real Slurpee straw with the spoon on the bottom?
08:13Yeah, of course.
08:14Come on.
08:14All right.
08:14You can't – now, you can't sleep on that nerd Slurpee because it's a nerd.
08:21It's got the things in there.
08:23Yeah, from Burger King.
08:24It creates a little flavorful surprise at the end.
08:27Trust me.
08:28Trust me on it.
08:29What's your favorite Slurpee?
08:31Crowder.
08:31Do you go cherry or cola or do you go pina colada?
08:34Suicide.
08:36What does that mean?
08:37I just put – any flavor they have, I just squirt one squirt of every color all the way down the line.
08:42A little bit cutesy.
08:43There's always – that's the – I told you, that's the guy on the playground at school who would, you know, hold the bee in his hand.
08:50Go, I'm not scared of bees.
08:52I'm the bee guy.
08:53Yeah, so you're the guy who go to 7-Eleven and you just put all the flavors in.
08:57All the flavors, yeah.
08:58I'm trying to get diabetes, honestly.
09:00He's the guy that goes chasing alligators in the –
09:05In the Gainesville Swamp.
09:09Y'all think having an alligator sit in the back of your pickup truck isn't attractive to women?
09:13Y'all are crazy.
09:16I can tell you one Lori Hockman would not have found that attractive.
09:21Would have gone right to her rabbi to have a conversation about this terrible date she was on that almost went south.
09:30Man, that worked like a charm in Gainesville.
09:35Rabbi would have said, I told you.
09:37Anyway.
09:42All right, so there it is.
09:44National Pina Colada Day.
09:45Omar Kelly.
09:46And you got a scratch-off as well?
09:48Yeah, I got a scratch-off.
09:49$20 scratch-off.
09:51$20 scratch-off.
09:52I mean, we're having – I mean, this is the best day of our lives.
09:55If I win $5 million, you'll never see me again.
09:58No, I'm just joking.
10:00Will I get my $20 back?
10:01Will I get my $20 back?
10:02Yeah, you get your – I get $200.
10:05All right.
10:06Fair enough.
10:07I'll take that deal.
10:08That's a good deal.
10:09$5 million for $200?
10:11I don't know if you know here, I'm not in a position of leverage at the moment.
10:17You could literally disconnect the phone.
10:19I could never see him again.
10:20I wouldn't even get $200.
10:21And I'd still want my $20.
10:28Omar Kelly.
10:29Read his work in the Miami Herald.
10:31This was delightful.
10:32We're going to run out of time here, so I'm going to ask you.
10:34I haven't read the column yet, but Solana says that you – and this is my opinion –
10:39that the Dolphins are much closer than people think.
10:41Was that what you wrote in the column today?
10:44They're not close, but people who think that this is going to be a horrible season.
10:47Like, Tua's won 10.7 games.
10:51He averages 10.7 games when he's healthy.
10:53All they got to do is keep Tua healthy.
10:55They should have a pretty productive season.
10:58Top 10 defense the last two years.
11:00Get a run game.
11:02Keep Tua healthy.
11:03Have Tyreek and Waddle healthy, and you will – you should be able to win double-digit games.
11:09And, oh, the one thing I think they're – the talk is that they're trying to change their identity.
11:14Be a little tougher.
11:14Be more stout.
11:15You know, run the ball, be able to whoop somebody's ass on third and one.
11:19Can the same coach do that?
11:20Can Mike McDaniel – because they sold us track meat, and now they're saying,
11:24no, we're about to toughen up now.
11:25You don't recruit track stars to get tough.
11:29I think it's more of winning the line of scrimmage.
11:33And you know how important that is, Crowder.
11:35I mean, you know how important a defensive tackle, and those tackles are to keeping a linebacker clean.
11:39And, you know, the run game, be able to consistently run.
11:43I mean, they ran for five yards a carry in 2023.
11:47It's not like a stretch of the imagination that they can be a consistent, effective running team.
11:52And I think that that's what they need to open up the big play, because nobody had to respect the big play.
11:57I mean, safeties can back up two, three yards further than they usually line up,
12:01because nobody was worried about the run with the team.
12:03Mike McDaniel on the hot seat, like the hottest of hot seats?
12:07I think Brian Dable's probably hotter, but Mike's pretty hot.
12:11I mean, they know they got to win.
12:12I mean, I don't think there's anybody in the league that doesn't know that they have to win.
12:17You know, this season, it doesn't remind me of – I remember when Joe Philbin was entering the 2015 season,
12:25you just knew players were checked out.
12:27They just – they didn't care about Joe.
12:29They didn't care about that coaching staff.
12:31This is different.
12:32They care.
12:33They want these coaches to remain here.
12:36They want to play for Mike.
12:38And those who didn't want to play for Mike, they got shown the door.
12:42I think the biggest stretch of your article, Omar, because I did agree with a lot of what you said,
12:47was that Anthony Weaver entering his second season will have – I think he wrote great mastery of his personnel.
12:53I'm with you on, you know, the front guys, the fat guys.
12:57But the secondary outside of Minka, like, at the end of the day, there's just a lack of talent there.
13:02So, like, is it fair – is it just fair to say, like, that's just not a good position group.
13:07You can't expect a lot out of it.
13:09I think their thought is that they can get pressure, and with blitzing, it will sort of mask what the secondary can do.
13:19Now, obviously, they needed a leader, and I think that that's what Minka's presence does.
13:23You have no idea what you're going to get from the rest of the safeties.
13:26And cornerback, I can tell you it's anybody's guess.
13:30But in their words, it's not that hard to find a cornerback.
13:34Back when Mike was with the 49ers, they got cornerbacks in the late round.
13:38Kansas City gets cornerbacks in the late rounds.
13:40They believe one or two of these guys are going to emerge and do something special.
13:45I – hey, I don't know.
13:48We'll see.
13:49But I will also point out it's not hard for you to go address the cornerback in week two
13:54when contracts are not guaranteed.
13:56So – and I think that that's really what they're probably going to be waiting on.
13:59But, you know, that's an Eli Apple-esque type of player.
14:03And those are out there.
14:05Omar Kelly, read his work in the Miami Herald.
14:08Follow him on Twitter as well.
14:09We appreciate your time.
14:10This was a great celebration of National Pina Colada Day.
14:14I am delighted that you got the Pina Colada Slurpee.
14:18I would ask you to do the scratch-off with your daughter.
14:22I find that to be a great father-son bonding thing.
14:26My son's now 21, so he can go get him on his own.
14:29But I used to love to do that with David.
14:32I would have him read the instructions.
14:34That way there was a lesson involved with the scratch-off.
14:37So you teach them how to gamble.
14:39Okay.
14:40All right.
14:40Teach them how to gamble properly by reading the instructions.
14:43So happy National Pina Colada Day.
14:47Hopefully we win a lot of money on the scratch-off, and we appreciate your time.
14:51All right, guys.
14:52Talk to you later.
14:52There you go.
14:53Omar Kelly from the Miami Herald.
14:54That was delightful.
