MADE of the finest carbon fibre, this muscle car is like a ‘savage beast’. Evolution was built by SpeedKore Performance Group who started with a 1970 Dodge Charger donor car before some serious remodelling. Under its sleek and light carbon fibre exterior is a Demon engine with a large supercharger and bigger injectors resulting in 966hp. Evolution was awarded the prestigious Goodguys Gold Award at SEMA 2018 and Dave Salvaggio, Vice President of SpeedKore is extremely proud of their work. He said: “I would say from a refinement standpoint, Evolution was our best car that we've built today.”

00:01Evolution was our best car, kind of like a savage beast.
00:06Yes, it's carbon fiber, but at the end of the day,
00:09it will always be a 1970 Dodge Charger.
00:30In Los Angeles, California, Speedcore specialise in high-end custom performance cars.
00:40And their material of choice? The finest carbon fiber.
00:45What better way to show off the quality of their craftsmanship
00:48than a 1970 Dodge Charger with a full carbon body?
00:53Evolution was our best car that we've built today.
00:57When I look at muscle cars, I look at the styling.
01:02I look at the power and performance.
01:05But most of all, it had an attitude.
01:10The Dodge Charger is the car that the bad guy always drives.
01:15It's that character that we like.
01:18And it's not just about the body.
01:21Every detail of the Evolution makes for an impressive build.
01:25We actually started with a Dodge Charger.
01:27We designed, we scanned, we modeled, and recreated that same shape, but out of carbon fiber.
01:33The Dodge Charger has that mean persona to begin with.
01:37Using that as a donor car in conjunction with Dodge, who's one of our partners, seemed to be really good.
01:44When you have a car this large, you can do any power plant you want.
01:48So obviously we chose the Demon engine, which is the best line that Dodge has out right now.
01:53Amazing performance.
01:54It's got the largest supercharger.
01:57We took a Hellcat front end.
01:59We made our own supercharger parts, bigger injectors, different fuel system.
02:04We're getting 966 horsepower out of it right now.
02:07Which must make for an impressive top speed.
02:10I don't know, we never tried it out yet.
02:13We need to.
02:14I mean, I would say this car would do over 200.
02:16It's geared to do over 200.
02:17The Evolution obviously is extremely light.
02:20Comes in around 33, 3400 pounds.
02:23A Camaro back in 1969 would be closer to 3650.
02:27So I like to say that we're bigger than the Camaro, but lighter.
02:30We made the frame extremely strong out of steel.
02:34It's boxed steel.
02:35And yes, we run the fuel lines on one side and we run the oil lines on the other side.
02:39And that was a massive undertaking.
02:40So there's no plumbing under the car.
02:42And there's no wires under the car.
02:43And it's flat on the bottom.
02:45So that will help us when we do find out what the top speeds are.
02:48After winning the good guys gold at the 2018 SEMA show, Evolution continues to rack up awards.
02:55Muscle car, it's always about being competitive.
02:59One upping the other person all the time.
03:01If you have 390 horse, the other guy's got to have 425 horse.
03:05Taking it to the next level of design and creativity.
03:09It's the little things that make the car.
03:11It's all about the details.
03:13Little things like the directional lights.
03:17This was something that Dodge did have in all the 1970 Dodge Chargers.
03:21And we wanted to keep the styling, but we wanted to change some of the lines.
03:25When someone looks at it, it looks better than it did in 1970.
03:28Also things like the hood pins.
03:32Dodge Charger ran hood pins as an option.
03:34And we wanted to recreate those same hood pins and the same styling that they did.
03:38A lot of companies try to eliminate wing windows.
03:41I like to actually embrace them.
03:43It was just a cool feature.
03:44One thing that's amazing about carbon fiber, not only is it strong, but extremely light.
03:49So having a charger hood itself, you would never be able to do this.
03:54And your hood hinges would be massive and the springs that held them up were massive.
03:58We've saved about a thousand pounds off of this car.
04:01The other thing about carbon fiber, which is amazing, especially on the fenders, is they don't dent or rust.
04:07If you look at a lot of the muscle cars and survivors over the years too, people lean on them and worked on them with their elbows and did all this.
04:13That doesn't do anything to carbon fiber.
04:15So it's a timeless piece.
04:17It just means it's going to last forever.
04:19A work of art.
04:22A killer spec.
04:24But what's it like to drive?
04:26We've put about 860 miles on it so far.
04:31So it was really good.
04:33We haven't had any issues.
04:39The chargers of the 70s and late 60s were great for straight lines, but they were terrible for turning.
04:46So this car is made to handle.
04:49Suspension could be a little more stiff than what you would like, but you need that to have the control.
04:53And when you have that power, you want to make sure everything is, you know, sturdy and you don't have to worry about it.
05:02The true definition of a muscle car is power under control.
05:07Kind of like a savage beast, but it's tame enough in the cage.
05:17I always make this reference.
05:18Maybe you were in high school and you had a girlfriend.
05:21You didn't want to see that girlfriend ten years later have green hair and an earring and all this other stuff.
05:25You remember the way that she was maybe in high school and how she was her sweetheart.
05:28I think the same thing is true to these cars.
05:31Yes, it's carbon fiber.
05:33Yes, the wheels are more of a modern approach.
05:35But at the end of the day, it will always be a 1970 Dodge Charger.
05:51So the thing is, what?
05:54What if you go on here?
05:55You might not have to be in high school.
05:56Not like you.
05:57What else do you do?
05:59There's a new car.
06:01This is a new car that the whole thing is.
06:02It's very easy to go on.
06:05It's time to go off the whole fifth of the day and it's time to go off.
06:07What if you're in the 40s, these cars?
