00:00This video is brought to you by R.I.P.
02:30We'll be sharing how we've crafted the game around exploration while keeping Atsu's
02:35tale of vengeance front and center.
02:38We'll also talk about ghost combat and how it's evolved.
02:42And we'll introduce for the first time some new special modes of play.
02:45But let's start things off first by talking about a Japanese folk legend, the Onryo.
02:52The people of Ezo believe Atsu is an Onryo, a wrathful ghost bent on revenge.
03:17And they're half right.
03:19Atsu doesn't care if she lives or dies, so long as she can punish the Yotei Six, a ruthless
03:28gang who slaughtered her family.
03:30After 16 years in the South, she's returned home to put their spirits to rest.
03:39It's warm memories of her family that propel her forward.
03:59When Atsu returns to her childhood home with the push of a button, you can experience those
04:06cherished times.
04:07By giving you the freedom to explore Atsu's past, the wound of her loss becomes personal.
04:19It's that pain that pushes her forward.
04:25Hunting down the Yotei Six is a near impossible task.
04:31She'll face a thousand blades, but the Onryo is relentless.
04:37And with each victory, the ghost story around her grows.
04:57Ghost of Yotei focuses on player freedom more than any game Sucker Punch has ever made.
05:03But it's also a game that at its heart is inspired by so many of our favorite wandering samurai
05:09films.
05:10So let's start off by talking about exploration at the edge of Japan.
05:17We all have different play styles, so we set out to make an open world game that lets you
05:21drive your own experiences.
05:24Whether that's your curiosity to wander, your thirst for combat, or a deep desire to stay
05:29focused on the story.
05:32As you explore, there's an underlying clue system that invites you to new adventures in
05:37new areas of the game that could be appealing to you.
05:41If you interrogate an enemy, choosing to ask about the Oni, you could uncover a landscape
05:45scarred by fire with more bold samurai-like enemies to fight and abilities for Atsu to learn.
05:52Or, if you ask about the Kitsune, might lead you to an area filled with snow and deception,
05:57enemies that ambush you, and new ninja-like tactics to study.
06:03Atsu draws cards for each clue to keep track of all available adventures.
06:07The more you play, the more the game unfolds for you.
06:12As she makes progress against the Yotei Six, her legend as the on-rail grows.
06:17Bounty will go up, drawing the attention of deadlier foes.
06:28There is a hefty price on Atsu's head.
06:47Now, Atsu can also hunt down her own bounties that bring her all around the land.
06:53This is a lucrative way to make some money to fuel her Vengeance quest.
07:19Atsu and Eguchi, you're here for my bounty.
07:26Atsu and Eguchi, you're here for my bounty.
07:33Hidden in the world are altars of reflection.
07:50Finding one inspires Atsu and unlocks a new ability to help her on the journey ahead.
07:56They are fun to find on their own, but for a quicker route,
08:03you can always buy a traveler's map from the Cartographer.
08:07Ghost of Yotei isn't going to rush you through anything.
08:14You can choose what motivates you most.
08:21But we think the best way to play is to simply pull out your spyglass,
08:25find something interesting on the horizon, and enjoy the ride.
08:29Let's ride!
08:30Let's ride!
08:31Let's ride!
08:36Let's ride!
08:39Let's ride!
08:41Let's ride!
08:43The lands around Yotei are fast.
08:47The lands around Yotei are fast.
09:04It's not about checking it all off.
09:06It's about engaging in the content that gets you excited.
09:11Embrace that curiosity and let the wind guide you on your hunt.
09:17Ezo is a dangerous place.
09:27Atsu always wields a weapon.
09:30As for which, that's up to you.
09:33Will you choose a katana, spear, a surigama, odachi, or dual swords?
09:42Each is uniquely effective against a particular enemy
09:45and has their own set of upgrades to discover and master.
09:56Let's see how she uses these weapons in the field,
09:59searching for leads on Lord Saito.
10:02This is our food, from our soil.
10:08Her soldiers need it more to free you.
10:12Free us?
10:13Inokichi steals our crops while our families starve.
10:19Atsu's no samurai or ninja.
10:22No, she's a lone wolf mercenary
10:25who'll use every advantage, every dirty trick, to win a fight.
10:40Combat has the feel of a classic samurai movie.
10:48Every motion counts.
10:50It's about lethal precision.
10:51If an enemy swings hard,
11:07Atsu can lose her weapon.
11:09But if she's quick,
11:11she can disarm them.
11:13Choose the right weapon for the job.
11:25To fight a massive enemy,
11:28her huge odachi blade is best.
11:30He looks like the one in charge.
11:50Tonight,
11:51we feast!
11:52Slades are great,
12:08but ranged weapons work too.
12:10And Atsu's got an arsenal.
12:19Bounty hunter!
12:20Throne weapons like kunai, bombs,
12:30or even blinding powder
12:31can give Atsu an edge.
12:34When enemies switch weapons,
12:37you'll have to adapt.
12:38Dual swords are best against spears.
12:40No more!
12:58Tell me what you know about Saito.
13:01Atsu doesn't always fight alone.
13:04She'll meet several allies on her hunt.
13:07Including a mysterious wolf.
13:09Atsu can set up camp under the stars of Ezo.
13:26But she's not always alone.
13:32Hey, friend.
13:33Share your fire with the traveling peddler?
13:36What are you selling?
13:38A mask said to be cursed
13:40with the unpredictable nature
13:41of its previous owner.
13:44Camping under the stars
13:45is a great way to rest up,
13:47play your shamisen,
13:48or cook to ready for a fight ahead.
13:51It's also designed
13:52to help bring important characters
13:53and upgrades straight to you.
13:57In fact,
13:57in place of the journal menu
13:59from Ghost of Tsushima,
14:00we've opted for a more character-driven way
14:02of managing allies and vendors
14:04you meet in Ezo.
14:06Over time,
14:07Atsu grows to have her own wolf pack.
14:10Here, you can keep track of when a sensei
14:12might have a weapon skill for you
14:13or when a vendor has something unique to sell.
14:17Managing upgrades, resources,
14:19when to buy what
14:20can be a burden
14:21in a big open-world game.
14:23At campsites,
14:24members of your wolf pack
14:25can catch up with you,
14:26offering upgrades and unique items.
14:29This helps ensure you
14:30have every opportunity
14:32to upgrade and prepare
14:33for Atsu's Vengeance quest ahead.
14:36You don't have to leave
14:36where you're exploring.
14:38The game comes to you.
14:44While exploring Ezo,
14:46you'll discover all sorts of new
14:48armor, charms, and gear.
14:51Perfect for building up Atsu
14:53around your chosen playstyle.
14:56Are you stealth,
14:59range,
15:00or melee-focused?
15:02Find and combine
15:03the pieces that are just right for you.
15:07And of course,
15:09customize the look of your armor
15:11and weapons
15:12to make sure
15:13that your version of Atsu
15:15looks and fights
15:17just the way you want.
