My tortoise laid an egg but it was I'm the house and not in soil so in this video I briefly go over what I know about how to look after and incubate the egg. It should take between 51-100 days. I do not agree with people who say we should destroy such eggs because they are not ours. They belong to the animals and they have a right to life. We should not destroy their eggs or harm any animal without a valid reason. For this reason I believe it's best to incubate such eggs when found and this will also help the species since most tortoises are listed as endangered species and are cites listed. If someone has such eggs in their property they could either leave them as they are to hatch naturally or otherwise incubate them by putting them in an egg carton with some soil and try to keepthf humidity and warmth at an even temperature. They can then be kept along with the pets or released into the wild or if not possible or safe then a conservation centre if there is one
00:00This is an egg that I just found. My tortoise laid an egg. I didn't notice it for a few days, I guess. I hope that it will hatch.
00:11But anyway, yeah, this is what a tortoise's egg looks like. Tortoise's eggs they take maybe, it depends on the temperature, they need maybe 50 to 60 days to hatch.
00:26So if you find, if you have a tortoise or there's some tortoises around or you see this kind of egg, the best way to incubate it naturally is to put it in a cardboard box like an egg carton with some soil.
00:44Here I have some eggs that I found before from my tortoise. See I had some cardboard, I did not have any egg boxes available.
00:54For this reason it looks kind of messy but I hope I will find the egg box and maybe replace them.
01:01So you add some soil and put them in a warm area but not too hot. The best temperature is around 31 degrees and without too much changing of temperature.
01:17Also try to keep the egg in this kind of position upright and not to turn it on its side because that could upset the fetus in the egg.
01:31So the egg should be laid in this position and you know in a carton and with some soil and try to avoid too much moisture and other than that you just leave it to hatch by itself.
01:53So not all eggs will hatch. Some eggs are not fertile. Apparently fertile eggs might take on a reddish color eventually or kind of pinkish color. That's a sign that they are fertile.
02:13And tortoises, you know when they are in captivity, female tortoises can actually lay eggs without a male presence somehow.
02:24So this is what happened with my tortoise. There was no male at that time. I have a male now.
02:31But there was no male at the time and I was confused how she laid an egg.
02:37So then I found out that female tortoises can in captivity lay eggs but often these are infertile.
02:46But another option is that perhaps she had previously been pregnant when I had bought her.
02:59Because apparently females can maintain the male fluid inside for several years.
03:11So she could have had a relationship a few years ago and still maintain that and became pregnant from that.
03:20So this is why a female might have, she might lay eggs without actually a male being present.
03:31Or many years after.
03:34Yeah.
03:35And in regards to whether these females, do they really miss or care for their eggs?
03:42Apparently females, when they lay the eggs, they will just leave them.
03:47They're not actually attached to their eggs like chickens or others.
03:51For this reason, if we find the eggs, it's actually better to put them in some soil and incubate them.
03:59Because female tortoise isn't going to sit on them.
04:02And she probably won't do anything much with them after that.
04:06Exactly.
04:13And it's, she didn't say that guy didn't just let them, but they didn't get mad.
04:17Then, when you use this, I don't know if they were too aggressive.
04:18You don't know if they were too aggressive, they didn't believe that.
04:20You're so aggressive.
04:22When you're too aggressive, you don't know if you don't know if they do them last day.
04:25I'm too aggressive.
04:26When I was too aggressive people, I was too aggressive.
