00:00Good afternoon, everyone. I have to tell you, this is a wonderful occasion in our city.
00:06Hot day, but we are here to celebrate. We're here to celebrate your unbelievable body of work,
00:14your artistic accomplishments and contribution, the thoughtfulness with how you act and the
00:21messages that come across. And everybody's talking about Cooley High. I happen to be one
00:25that watched the rerun a couple of weeks ago, and there you were, a teenager. I'm not sure
00:30if you were a teenager. You looked like you were a teenager. But I think we have a Cooley
00:34High reunion going on here, Mr. Lawrence. But I want to make mention of how I first met you,
00:42which was after 1992 and the civil unrest. We were in South LA. I was running an organization
00:48called Community Coalition, and we wanted to respond after 1992. I see somebody else here
00:54who was very important during that time, Edward James Olmos.
01:01It was a tough time, like we're having a tough time right now in our city. But what Angelenos
01:06do in a tough time is we act, we go out and we take action. And Glenn, you were always there,
01:13always there on behalf of our community. And so I remember in the 90s, I'm not even sure
01:19what year it was, because it was quite a while ago, but Community Coalition in one of our first
01:24annual dinners had you come and presented you with an award because of your contributions
01:30to the community. So while your great artistic work everyone knows about, but I'm not sure
01:37everyone knows about your contributions to the community and how you're always willing to
01:42show up and accessible. Camp Giddy Up. Camp Giddy Up. Introducing young people in South LA
01:51and in inner city areas that have never seen a horse up close. And you've introduced them
01:57to that, your role in the black rodeo, just on and on and on. But I have two awards to present.
02:04One on behalf of the councilman from the area, Councilman Hugo Soto Martinez. And we have another
02:19one on behalf of the city as a whole. And let me take the opportunity to make a declaration.
02:26I want to declare today as the Glen Turban Day in the city of Los Angeles. It's your day.
02:37And then we're going to turn and show the audience.
