00:00D.F.A. D.J. LeMahieu yesterday, a two-time batting champ, including in New York in 2020 in his first year with the Yanks in that COVID-shortened season, actually had the best war, D.R.S., wins above replacement in MLB, and of course got his start in Colorado.
00:18So D.J. LeMahieu still owed $22 million on a fairly large contract D.F.A. designated for assignment yesterday, basically cut by the pinstripes.
00:28Yeah, it's good. When you take a look at general managers and ownership groups that put the price of wins more than the price of the player, like, oh, well, we owe him so much money, we can't just get rid of him, use him to see what he can do.
00:39If he's a detriment to the team, you've got to cut bait, you've got to move on, and we've seen teams that do that this year.
00:43Jamer Candelario has done that as well, so there you go. Guys getting bought out in Major League Baseball on good baseball teams. Why? Because they want to win.
00:51It makes sense here. D.J. LeMahieu, we'll see if he goes somewhere else, but if the Yankees are going to cut you loose with that much money,
00:56there's probably people looking and like, hey, you know what? It's probably the end of the line for the guy.
01:01Yeah, maybe so, D.R.S. We'll see what LeMahieu's future is in the bigs, more than likely in the Bronx.
01:06That has come to a close. My good friend, Matt, great friends with D.J. LeMahieu.
01:12They grew up playing baseball together in the Detroit suburbs, so you feel for LeMahieu.
01:18By the way, Cam Schlittler gets that start and a win in his MLB debut.
01:23American League Rookie of the Year odds, Jackie Caggs for Kansas City, two consecutive games with a home run.
01:30But it has not been a great start to his MLB career, not even listed on these American League Rookie of the Year odds that you will see.
01:39However, D.R.S., now that favorite for Houston, their rookie, where it stands right now, Cam Smith at minus 105.
01:48But Jacob Wilson for the Athletics, isn't he the starter at shortstop for the American League?
01:54Why is he not the favorite any longer?
01:57Why isn't Kurtz even up higher? I mean, that guy's knocking the absolute cover off of the baseball.
02:01It's crazy, too, because you look at Wilson and Kurtz, it's like, yeah, they're on a bad baseball team, and Cam Smith on a better one.
02:06But to be honest with you, sometimes I look at the C. Smith, I'm like, ooh, who's that guy?
02:10I don't say that when I see Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz out there, right?
02:13It's not the same thing for me.
02:14Like, Roman Anthony, I know that name hasn't performed well.
02:17Jason Dominguez is like a 60-year-old rookie for the Yankees.
02:19We all know him.
02:20And then Carlos Novaya is coming up for Boston.
02:22So it's funny.
02:23Like, if you ask me to reorder that, like, yeah, Cam Smith's having a good season.
02:27But I got to tell you, the two A's kids, I'd put above them.
02:29I just would.
02:31Roman Anthony yesterday, two for four at the dish.
02:33Carlos Novaya is a home run for the Red Sox, who have also been highly offensive this week in sweeping the Colorado Rockies.
02:41Back-to-back games for Boston, scoring double-digit runs, 10 in each against the Rocks.
02:47And they scored nine in the opener.
02:49They swept Colorado.
02:50DRS, the longest win streak in Major League Baseball, comes to a close yesterday.
02:55Rather surprisingly, the Blue Jays' 10-game win streak, one shy of tying the franchise record
03:01for the longest ever win streak in the history of the Jays, comes to an end at 10.
03:07As they lose to the White Sox in Chicago, low-scoring game, 2-1.
03:13DRS, you've been paying attention to Adrian Hauser for the Sox?
03:17Another gem in his ninth start of the year on the south side.
03:21Seven innings of work, seven hits, two Ks.
03:24He is 5-2 this year with a 1-5-6 ERA, one of the very few bright spots.
03:31For this White Sox team, Adrian Hauser.
03:34Yeah, usually you'd say, like, okay, Toronto probably lost 9-8.
03:36They just got out slow because their bats have been absolutely on fire.
03:39Only one run out of the Toronto Blue Jays.
03:41And they only lost the game by one run here.
03:43You can't win them all.
03:45Even the worst teams in Major League Baseball are going to bite some of the better teams
03:48in baseball.
03:48We get that.
03:49That was pretty surprising yesterday.
03:50I thought Lauer would do a decent job.
03:52And if you would have told me once again, hey, Lauer goes four innings pitch
03:54and gives up only two earned runs.
03:56The way the bats have been excelling for Toronto,
03:58you probably thought that would be a win.
03:59And Sox get the W, 2-1, man.
04:01It's baseball.
