00:00Meanwhile, the depth of Taal Lake has been estimated at 170 meters or 550 feet thereabouts.

00:07Pretty challenging for divers seeking to reach the bottom and scow the murky depths for human remains.

00:13But a search area has been designated with Ground Zero located near the town of Talisay, Batangas,

00:19as PCG's CUBIT team prepares for tomorrow's descent as we hear more from our Luisa Erispe

00:25who takes us on a deeper dive in this story.

00:30Bones in a wide sack that appeared to be burned.

00:34This is what the Department of Justice, or DOJ, Philippine Coast Guard, or PCG,

00:39and other operatives of the government retrieved earlier during the initial technical assessment at the Taal Lake

00:45for the search and retrieval operations of the missing sabongeros.

00:49In a statement, the DOJ said the remains appeared to be human bones.

00:54It was retrieved on the lakebed within the vicinity of Laurel, Batangas.

00:58However, the DOJ will not rely on visuals.

01:01Rather, they will have a step-by-step verification such as forensic examination and DNA testing

01:08if it is indeed human remains and related to the case of the missing sabongeros.

01:12But still, the DOJ sees this development as a breakthrough in the investigation

01:16and a closer call to justice for the families.

01:19If these are the remains of the missing sabongeros and the others will be retrieved and confirmed,

01:24the case will now shift to a murder case.

01:26This will definitely be the intentional for the police if ever bodies are found in the area of the ground.

01:34So, we hope to see the remains that will match the DNA of those missing by the PCGs.

01:44Tomorrow, an official search and retrieval operations into the lake will commence with 30 divers from the PCG

01:50to find possible more pieces of evidence for the case.

01:54Definitely, starting tomorrow, we'll be doing the diving.

01:58Ngayon, even surface search, naggagawa na rin ngayon.

02:02PCG sees the murky waters as a challenge as well as the weather and the possible eruption of the volcano.

02:09This is a lake, so characteristic niya, lalo na pagkamaalon, and nakikita niya naman murky.

02:16So, same yun sa bottom. As you go deep, medyo lumalabo, maburak din yung lugar.

02:21But the DOJ said they will not stop until the justice is served for the families.

02:26We are just here to make sure that we turn every stone.

02:33We are here to make sure that all leads are pursued.

02:38Kasi po, ito po ay isang napahalaking kaso and we really do want to get to the bottom of this.
