00:00New Year's Eve, 2022.
00:10Emmy was going to a party.
00:13She had plans for next year.
00:15It was lovely.
00:17She was really excited.
00:20About 20 past 5 in the morning, my phone was ringing.
00:24Straight away, I knew it was bad.
00:26It was her friend's mum who just realised Emmy's left the party.
00:35She hasn't got her shoes on.
00:37We're going to go out and look for her.
00:40For Emmy to go missing, something's happened.
00:47Her dad said, Lou, I'm just going to go straight to her flat.
00:50See if I can find her.
00:54He got there within 20 minutes.
00:56He rang me going to the police here.
01:02She's in the flat, but she's not breathing.
01:09And I just remember thinking, please, God.
01:13You know, please let them get her breathing again.
01:17When I started looking into this story, I had no idea it was going to become as prolific as it's become.
01:27I had no sense that it was going to involve the deaths of hundreds of people.
01:34A deadly poison being sold all over the world, intentionally.
01:39Who was behind this?
01:40I decided to track this person down, hold him accountable.
01:45What do you think the chances are that it will kill me?
01:48There's a very, very high probability.
01:50People who you can die, people in the US have died, people in Canada have died.
01:54This is the equivalent of posting a loaded gun to somebody with instructions to say, pull here on the trigger.
02:09This person could be one of the worst mask murderers ever.
02:16Nobody was doing anything.
02:17Nobody.
02:18It was a consistent shutdown.
02:21The FBI, the Food and Drug Administration.
02:23It's a systematic failure of everything.
02:28The number of dead continues to climb.
02:31Police said he sent more than 1,200 packages to 40 countries,
02:36earning him the nickname in British media of the Poison King.
02:41Every single victim needs justice.
02:53Einatmana Joseph-Leodot, Anupimisen, Anupimisen, Anupimsel, Anupimisen, Anupimiban, Anupimise Harko,
03:01anupimisen, Anupimisen, Anupimiry, Aerniлюuna, Anupimika, Anupiminta, Anyuuna, Anupimise Harko,
03:04billions and a half hours of all over the world were present together.
03:10When I turned behind every single of the people of
03:15about the killers of my his mother,
03:17he is afraid to put back their eyes into a natural'!
03:19The woman, my father, reproductive constitutional.
03:22Hey, I'm here with Tim, and we're walking home.
03:31Tom was extremely gifted academically, some wonderful friends.
03:39He started university recently, he had a lot to look forward to.
03:50He was absolutely passionate about everything from Manchester United through to philosophy.
04:00Wicked sense of humor, quite a dry sense of humor.
04:05His laugh, yeah, he had very distinctive laugh that also actually made me laugh as well.
04:15He was just such a lovely man.
04:19Probably not even an hour I go through without thinking about him.
04:26I'm in service, is the patient breathing?
04:33No, the patient is there.
04:35We check his pulse, there's no pulse, his wife and the goat.
04:41Do you know his name?
04:42His name is Mr Tom Parfit.
04:49Tom was found in a hotel room in West London.
04:57He was found in a prison, a poison next to his body, having taken his own life.
05:04It's just a different world after that, after that moment.
05:09Not going to see him grow up and have his own family.
05:14That's all, that's all gone.
05:15When I found out about this poison, I was just ever so angry.
05:30It's not something I knew about, not something I'd heard of.
05:35How on earth can somebody like my son get hold of something like this to kill himself?
05:40How did he find out about this substance?
05:43I started searching on Google.
05:47I very quickly came across a forum discussing suicide.
06:00I was shocked, for sure.
06:02I didn't know such places existed.
06:04They talk about methods, success rates.
06:09If you're going to jump off a building, how high do you need to jump?
06:17It wasn't hidden away in a dark corner of the internet.
06:20It wasn't something that maybe just a few people were using.
06:24There were lots of people all over the world interacting with this platform.
06:30The scale of this was just so difficult to comprehend.
06:35This forum gets millions of hits every month.
06:41A lot of people in the States, Canada, UK, Europe, Scandinavia.
06:52To think about each individual person who's taking this decision,
06:56it's just so, so tragic.
06:59The lives that have been lost.
07:01It's just astonishing.
07:04I didn't know anything about suicide forums until this, all of this.
07:22Like, just didn't even know that existed.
07:25And it's, yeah, it's terrifying.
07:29And she didn't stand a chance.
07:31The minute I got that phone call, I just remember thinking, oh, my God.
07:46Oh, my God.
07:47It just went on and on and...
07:51It must have been about, I don't know how long it felt, like, forever.
07:56Waiting for them to ring.
07:58You know, to say, yeah, she's fine, she's breathing again.
08:03And I just ran.
08:06So, she's gone.
08:13No, guys, this is my deaf friend.
08:16She's deaf.
08:17I haven't, that is...
08:19Immy.
08:22Immy loved her social media.
08:24Yeah.
08:25That's when she found Immy.
08:27Did you follow her?
08:28Yeah, I followed her straight away.
08:30It just used to make me giggle.
08:32Hello, Sialangas, too.
08:34Bullshit!
08:37Immy wanted to, um, use her TikTok to help people understand
08:42that having a disability was okay.
08:47Having mental health problems was okay, you know.
08:50It's so, so important to talk to people how you are feeling.
08:55To let people know if you are struggling.
08:57Just know that you are not online.
09:00Stay safe.
09:06Immy was probably about 13 when she
09:10seemed a little bit quieter.
09:14And I think at that age
09:16it suddenly hit that being deaf
09:19was actually affecting her at school.
09:23Her mood just continued to drop.
09:28She was in and out of hospitals from 15 to 24.
09:33The nine years were a constant battle.
09:36Desperate, desperate battle
09:39to find someone that could help her.
09:42I'm so sorry you're dead.
09:45Oh, JP.
09:47Have a drink on me.
09:49Oh.
09:51Thanks.
09:57Was Immy on the forum, do you know?
09:59Yeah, Immy was on the forum.
10:01I've been shown a comment that was on there.
10:06As soon as I saw it, I knew it was in me.
10:09I could just tell by the way she said my parents love me.
10:14And they're going to be the straw.
10:17Why do you think she bought the poison?
10:22Maybe people have told her that it's definitely going to work.
10:27I quickly found discussions about how to source the poison.
10:31How much you need to measure?
10:33How much do you dilute it by?
10:35There was a huge volume of these discussions.
10:37How many do you think?
10:39Hundreds, hundreds of posts about this.
10:40It's just horrendous.
10:41Like many forums, there's a code.
10:42One of the codes was the abbreviation IC.
10:43It's just horrendous.
10:45It's just horrendous.
10:47It seemed to be referring to the code.
10:48And the code is how much do you need to measure?
10:50How much do you dilute it by?
10:51There was a huge volume of these discussions.
10:52How many do you think?
10:53Hundreds, hundreds of posts about this.
10:56It's just horrendous.
11:00Like many forums, there's a code.
11:03Like many forums, there's a code.
11:07One of the codes was the abbreviation IC.
11:14It seemed to be referring to a place which would sell
11:19that poison that Tom used to end his own life.
11:22But nobody in the open forum actually explained
11:25what it stood for and what it meant.
11:27I adopted a persona of somebody who knew into the forum,
11:35was contemplating suicide, and I started posting,
11:40asking them what IC stood for.
11:51After I'd been on the forum for a few weeks,
11:54somebody finally explained what that meant.
12:00It was in-time cuisine.
12:07It behaved like any other website
12:10where you might go and buy goods.
12:14I did some digging around the site and I found the poison.
12:18You'd go to the page, you'd add it to your basket.
12:24You don't even have to register.
12:26There were no checks.
12:27It was like buying a book online.
12:31They didn't ask my age.
12:33It was all too easy.
12:38So I order the poison.
12:41It wasn't long, probably a few days.
13:04After I bought the poison online,
13:07I'd get it in the post.
13:08A relatively small package has been through customs.
13:14It just seemed to indicate
13:16that this was a well-oiled machine.
13:19This was something that was being done
13:21at a considerable scale.
13:28It still astonishes me
13:31that it's that easy
13:33to get hold of this poison.
13:38One of the challenges
13:42with our poison's law
13:44is that it doesn't really cater
13:46for international trade.
13:48There's no effective regulation
13:50if you buy something
13:51that is a portable substance
13:54in the UK from abroad.
13:55You effectively bypass those laws.
13:58I wanted to shout it from the rooftops
14:03that there's, you know,
14:03a problem here
14:04that needs to be stopped.
14:06I could not persuade
14:07the police force
14:08investigating Tom's death
14:09that it looked to me
14:11like a bigger problem.
14:13They weren't interested
14:14in seeing this
14:15as more than just
14:15an individual
14:16taking his own life.
14:17I had ran out of options.
14:24I had nowhere left to turn.
14:28My last chance
14:29was to go to the newspapers.
14:31Thanks for calling me, David.
14:38I'd definitely be interested
14:39in taking a look at this.
14:41Would you mind talking
14:41through what's happened?
14:43I'm just...
14:45I'm just really...
14:46Let's call it a surprise
14:48that, you know,
14:49the police have known
14:50since they found Tom's body
14:51where he bought this from.
14:53Yeah.
14:54But nobody's done anything
14:56about...
14:57As a journalist,
14:58you cover so many different stories.
15:00Politics, one minute crime,
15:01the next.
15:02You can definitely
15:02make a difference.
15:04Shining light on things
15:06that are not widely known about.
15:14This is one of the frustrations
15:15with the UK police.
15:17They just weren't interested
15:19in following up on this.
15:20You know, they weren't interested
15:21in highlighting this
15:22as any chance
15:24of a criminal case
15:24where, as you know,
15:26it's an offence
15:27to assist them to suicide.
15:29Mental health
15:30is a real pressing subject
15:32for a lot of people.
15:33So I think it's hugely relevant
15:34to talk about suicide.
15:37When I was speaking to David,
15:39I couldn't understand
15:40why the police
15:41weren't investigating.
15:43It was his belief
15:44that the website
15:45selling a poison
15:46knew it was selling
15:47to a person
15:48that was suicidal
15:49and it is illegal
15:50and it is illegal
15:50to assist suicide.
15:55I felt that there was
15:56the chance to expose
15:57something going on here
15:59that hadn't been noticed before.
16:04There was a pressure
16:06to cut to the heart
16:07of the whole story
16:07and find out
16:08what was going on.
16:08After the call
16:15with David,
16:16I went straight on
16:17to
16:18NinetimeCuisine.com.
16:21The first thing you see
16:22is a plate of cold meats
16:24and if you scroll down
16:26on the website,
16:27it appeared to be selling
16:28products
16:29that you might use
16:30around the home.
16:31Liquid, food flavouring,
16:33salts
16:33and then nestled
16:35among them
16:36was the poison.
16:41The website
16:42had painted a picture
16:43of a facade,
16:44if you like,
16:45of respectability.
16:47It looked like
16:48someone was trying
16:48to perhaps cover up
16:49its true purpose.
16:52So I wanted to find out
16:54who was behind it,
16:55who ran it
16:56and what exactly
16:58was going on.
17:06The police thought
17:21Miles had taken
17:22an accidental overdose
17:23that didn't quite
17:25sit right with us
17:26and so we were
17:28just trying to get
17:28an idea of what
17:29his final days
17:31and final weeks
17:32had looked like
17:32and we'd started
17:34looking through
17:35his computer
17:36and his phone
17:36and we had discovered
17:38that he was
17:39very, very active
17:41on a suicide forum.
17:46We started to do searches,
17:49just everything
17:50that we could find out
17:51at the time
17:52about this forum.
17:55There's a lot of talk
17:56about people
17:57becoming addicted
17:58to that site
18:00and he was
18:00very welcomed
18:01in that forum.
18:11Miles was my
18:13firstborn son.
18:15We had Malin
18:16about 18 months later
18:18and just had
18:20a great childhood
18:21growing up,
18:22happy and fun.
18:23I always looked up
18:24to my older brother
18:25because he was
18:26just so good
18:27at everything.
18:28He was brilliant
18:29and talented
18:32and
18:32yeah.
18:43As a mother,
18:47you don't want
18:47to see your kids hurt
18:49and so
18:51you want to try
18:54to do everything
18:55you can
18:56to help them
18:57and I wasn't able
18:58to do that.
19:07That's all.
19:09When I began
19:11to realize
19:12people in a
19:13mental health crisis
19:15like Miles
19:16had access
19:17to that forum,
19:19you feel so bad
19:21for them
19:21you're trying
19:22to figure out
19:23a way
19:24to stop it.
19:25my mother
19:27was quite adamant
19:29to help people
19:29that were on
19:30that site.
19:31I was in the military
19:33for about 12 years,
19:35became a
19:36counterintelligence agent.
19:38I have a bachelor's degree
19:39in intelligence
19:40and security studies
19:41and then I took
19:42a few courses
19:43in digital forensics.
19:45And so my mother
19:46had reached out
19:47to me one day
19:48and asked me
19:49to look into
19:51where to find
19:52the poison basically.
19:53And so I posted
19:55on the site.
19:58I remember
19:59it was a
19:59Saturday morning
20:00and I had received
20:02a message back
20:03from a user
20:05called Greenberg.
20:07He had a picture
20:08of a white dog
20:09and a short bio
20:11that kind of explained
20:13how he was
20:14a retired pathologist
20:16based in New York.
20:17I had seen
20:19the name
20:20on the site
20:21often.
20:22Kind of one
20:23of those users
20:23that you would
20:24see posting
20:26very regularly.
20:29And he
20:30merely messaged me
20:31the name
20:32imetimecuisine.com.
20:40It just appeared
20:41to be
20:42a site
20:43that sold
20:43food service products.
20:45Salts and things
20:46like that.
20:46like a restaurant
20:48supply company.
20:49Yes.
20:51My brother,
20:52he didn't get it
20:53from Icy,
20:54but I decided
20:55maybe I should
20:56look at this
20:56a little bit further.
21:00And I scrolled down
21:01to see their products
21:02and lo and behold,
21:05they had products
21:06being displayed,
21:07but they were
21:08either salt
21:09that was $10,000,
21:12salt that I had
21:13in my pantry
21:13that was $10,000
21:15or other products
21:18that were sold out.
21:20The only thing
21:21available for sale
21:22for $59
21:23plus shipping
21:24was the poison.
21:27And I thought,
21:28that is strange.
21:30And further to that,
21:32there's no other use
21:33for that chemical
21:34at that potency.
21:35And I said,
21:37you know,
21:37I think there's
21:37something more here
21:38that needs
21:39to be looked at.
21:41I remember messaging
21:43back and forth
21:44with my mom saying,
21:45this is definitely
21:45a front site.
21:47This person's
21:48providing suicide methods
21:50that are favored
21:51by the forum.
21:53And then Greenberg
21:55is advertising
21:56the site
21:57and shuttling people
21:58over to
21:59this storefront.
22:01It just opens up
22:04this whole world
22:05of what seems
22:07to be black market
22:08selling for methods
22:10to commit suicide.
22:16The crucial element
22:17in this story
22:18was who exactly
22:19was the person
22:20behind this website.
22:23Under the contact
22:25information,
22:25there was a P.O. box
22:27address in Canada
22:28located in a city
22:30called Mississauga,
22:33about 45 minutes
22:35west of Toronto.
22:38There was also
22:39their phone number
22:40and an email address,
22:42klawatoutlook.com.
22:45I googled that
22:46and then I clicked on
22:47two further websites
22:48that came up.
22:50There was nambuca.com
22:52and eskimo.com.
22:57These two websites
22:58were definitely
22:59more explicit
23:00in their content
23:01and quite clearly
23:03selling goods
23:04for the purposes
23:05of suicide.
23:09There were testimonies
23:11on Eskimos
23:12saying that
23:13the products
23:13were expensive
23:14but it was probably
23:15the last $1,000
23:17they would ever spend.
23:19It was shocking
23:20to see that
23:21a website like this
23:22could operate
23:22under the radar.
23:25On both websites,
23:27the P.O. box address
23:28and the contact details
23:30were the same.
23:31klawatoutlook.com
23:33and on Eskimo
23:37was the name
23:38Kenneth M. Law.
23:40I googled his name
23:46and immediately
23:47popped a CV
23:49of a Kenneth M. Law
23:51dated from 2005
23:52and then at the bottom
23:54and then at the bottom
23:54of the website
23:55there was a picture
23:55of Kenneth Law himself.
24:00Dressed up
24:01in a tuxedo
24:02smiling at the camera.
24:06Doing this job
24:07for a number of years
24:08you've become
24:08quite sceptical
24:09about things.
24:11Quite cynical.
24:12I had no doubts
24:14that there was
24:14somebody called
24:16Kenneth Law
24:17living in Ontario
24:19but would somebody
24:21really be as brazen
24:23or foolish
24:24to use their real name
24:26on a website
24:26that may well be
24:28conducting criminality?
24:33To really discover
24:34what's going on
24:35I needed to track down
24:37Kenneth Law.
24:42I'd kind of gone down
24:55the rabbit hole
24:55at this point.
24:57I knew that David's son
24:59Tom purchased
25:00poison from a seller
25:02in Canada
25:03calling himself
25:04Kenneth Law.
25:12I was looking for
25:17any information
25:18about him
25:19where he might live
25:22what he might be up to
25:28other than these websites
25:29who was Kenneth Law?
25:34I discovered
25:35quite an old TV
25:36it was dated from 2005
25:37he was pretty well qualified
25:41in the engineering field
25:43he had had several
25:45stints of employment
25:46at big companies
25:47including an aerospace
25:49company called Dunlop
25:50in the Midlands
25:51in the UK.
25:55When I did social media
25:57searches
25:58I found the same
25:59picture as
26:01on the CV
26:02on a Facebook profile
26:04for Kenneth Law
26:05in Canada.
26:07He didn't have
26:08many public posts
26:10there was
26:12one strange post
26:14about
26:14erotic art
26:16and there were
26:17other posts
26:18about the TV show
26:19Star Trek.
26:21A large percentage
26:22of his Facebook friends
26:24appeared to work
26:25at the
26:25Fairmont Royal York
26:27Hotel
26:27a five star hotel
26:29in downtown Toronto.
26:32I guess that he
26:33either worked there
26:34or had worked there
26:35at some stage.
26:35I was beginning
26:43to piece together
26:44who this person was
26:45I needed to find out
26:47what was the scale
26:48of his business
26:49how many people
26:51have they sold
26:52this stuff to
26:52there was enough
26:56information
26:57in front of me
26:58to try and conduct
26:59a full investigation
27:00around this website
27:03and this substance
27:04but we needed
27:06to be extremely
27:07careful
27:07because we knew
27:08it was so sensitive.
27:15Can you click
27:16on one of those?
27:18Yes.
27:19Here's a post
27:20from someone
27:21who's asking
27:23whether or not
27:23they should use
27:24the poison
27:25to commit suicide.
27:27after Miles had died
27:29we were on the forum
27:30often
27:30day after day
27:32hour after hour
27:33you would see
27:34goodbye posts
27:35of people who just
27:37they aren't getting
27:38the help that they need.
27:55I do believe
27:57that people should have
27:58the right
27:58to talk about suicide
28:00I believe that people
28:01should have the right
28:02to choose
28:03as well
28:04I am wholly behind
28:06the right to die movement
28:07for those who
28:08you know
28:09are suffering
28:10from a terminal illness
28:11that they can't
28:12come back from
28:13and all that
28:14all that's at the end
28:15of that
28:16is more suffering
28:16but this is
28:19something
28:20different.
28:21this is a community
28:30that comes together
28:31for one single purpose
28:33they become
28:40an echo chamber
28:41of despair
28:43and heartbreak
28:47but the thing is
28:51if you say
28:52have you tried
28:52to reach out
28:53to a suicide hotline
28:54you'll be banned
28:55from the site
28:56if you try to suggest
28:58reach out for help
28:59do you have family
29:00do you have somebody
29:01anybody
29:01you'll be banned
29:03from the site
29:04day after day
29:08after day
29:09you see them
29:11say goodbye
29:12CTB
29:14I'm going to catch
29:14the bus
29:15you don't know
29:22if these people
29:23are minors
29:25if they're
29:26going through
29:26an acute mental episode
29:28you don't know
29:29if these people
29:31want to take back
29:33what they started
29:34and they can't
29:35and there's nothing
29:37you can do about it
29:38absolutely nothing
29:39it was only a few
29:48weeks ago
29:49that I found
29:50that Tom started
29:51a forum post
29:52when he took
29:52the substance
29:53he says
29:57I took the poison
29:59my heart
30:00is beating fast
30:02it feels like
30:02I've been on a run
30:03I feel like
30:05I need to breathe
30:06really hard
30:07and then somebody
30:09else on the forum
30:10says
30:10see you on the
30:11other side
30:12Tom then posts
30:15I feel sweaty
30:16my head is making
30:19a slightly screeching
30:21noise
30:21I don't feel as bad
30:23now
30:23I can hear a
30:25fuzzing noise
30:25weird
30:26and this is all
30:28within minutes
30:30of each other
30:30this is happening
30:31in real time
30:33my fingers feel numb
30:36like I can barely
30:38move it
30:39somebody else
30:42says
30:42not alone
30:43ever one
30:45here with you
30:46somebody else
30:48puts rest in peace
30:49RIP
30:49Tom doesn't post
30:52anymore
30:53and then
30:55finally
30:56I think
30:57they are gone
30:57that's the
31:00end of the
31:01thread
31:02so all of that
31:03has happened
31:04within a few minutes
31:05and
31:05that's my son
31:07dying
31:07what this
31:12substance
31:13actually does
31:14is horrific
31:15the poison
31:16suffocates the
31:17body from the
31:18inside
31:18I know Tom
31:20would have died
31:21in agony
31:21and yet nobody
31:24calls an ambulance
31:25nobody tries to
31:26find him
31:27nobody asks the
31:28question
31:28where are you
31:29what can we do
31:31it's all
31:32congratulatory
31:34messages
31:34it's all
31:35messages
31:36of
31:36sport
31:37of all the forums
31:54that you looked at
31:55David
31:56did you get a
31:58feeling that this
31:58company is the
31:59biggest supplier
32:00or is it the most
32:01one that's signposted
32:03I would say it's
32:04the only supplier
32:06I've seen
32:06signposted
32:07but there's no doubt
32:08it's killing people
32:09the thing I've been
32:11trying to find out
32:11and I can't
32:12is how many
32:1310, 20, 100
32:151,000
32:16I'm spending
32:23increasing amounts
32:24of time
32:24on this investigation
32:25and trying to get
32:26things moving
32:27trying to find
32:28some answers
32:29for David
32:29this week
32:37we're tackling
32:38the difficult topic
32:39of suicide
32:40as numbers rise
32:41at startling rates
32:43especially among
32:43young people
32:44yeah so suicide rates
32:45jumped 33%
32:46between 1999
32:47and 2019
32:49then there was
32:50a small decrease
32:51in 2020
32:52Kenneth Law's
32:56website
32:57started gaining
32:58traction
32:58in the summer
32:59of 2021
33:00on the forum
33:01there were
33:06accounts about
33:06how Kenneth Law's
33:08product arrived
33:09quickly in the post
33:10without question
33:11from the authorities
33:12no one in the
33:15general public
33:15really knew
33:16what was going on
33:17no one in the
33:18general public
33:18really understood
33:19that people
33:21were so desperately
33:21ill
33:22that they would
33:23log on to
33:24a suicide forum
33:25be ushered
33:26towards
33:26a poison seller
33:27receive that poison
33:30through the mail
33:30take it and die
33:33and the sellers
33:35like Kenneth Law
33:35make a living
33:36out of it
33:3760-something dollars
33:49cost my brother's life
33:50everything my brother's
33:52done in the past
33:52and what he could do
33:54in the future
33:54came down to
33:55$60
33:56brings me back to
34:20happier days
34:21simpler days

35:21all his struggles
35:23I just didn't know
35:25how bad it was
35:25I could protect him
35:31from other people
35:32and you know
35:34stupid decisions
35:35but ultimately
35:36the one thing I
35:37couldn't do
35:38I couldn't protect
35:39him from himself
35:40that's the thing

36:14he didn't delete
36:15his browser history
36:17reading my brother's
36:19questions and comments
36:20I'm seeing that
36:22he was guided to
36:23I'm Time Cuisine
36:25to purchase the poison
36:26let me grab this one
36:29a user says
36:32I'm Time Cuisine
36:34is where I get it from
36:35usually you need a license
36:37to obtain
36:37the poison
36:39but I'm Time Cuisine
36:41just hands it out
36:42I went through
36:45his emails
36:45and it's clear
36:46as day to see
36:47what Benji
36:49bought
36:49when he bought it
36:51and who he
36:52bought it from
36:53I found
36:55he had made
36:56several purchases
36:57from Kenneth Law
36:59directly
36:59he uses
37:01his name
37:02in the email
37:03for different
37:05amounts of poison
37:06Kenneth Law
37:09was well aware
37:10what he was doing
37:11he knew why
37:12people were getting it
37:13and he did nothing
37:15to stop
37:16or
37:16try and get them
37:18to get help
37:19or talk them down
37:20or anything
37:21he just saw
37:22dollar signs
37:23customers were
37:25dollar signs to him
37:26in the email
37:30and that was
37:44$100

37:49$100
37:51$100
37:52$100
37:53$100

37:54$100
37:55$100
37:56$100
37:57We started ringing the alarm bells about Kenneth Law in February of 2022.
38:11At the time, I worked in the cyber division for the FBI.
38:17And so I went to my section chief and I brought the evidence that I had to him.
38:23I showed him how the site was being used, this person who's peddling the site to people who are trying to commit suicide in the United States.
38:33And the answer I was given was, he's not an American and this is a legal substance, so there's nothing we can do about it.
38:43And that, I was kind of just shut down right there.
38:46Well, and then, that's when I picked it up and I contacted the police, the FBI, the Food and Drug Administration.
38:56It was a consistent shutdown at every avenue because that poison is not regulated right now.
39:07It's not marked as harmful.
39:08Nothing was being done and Kenneth Law was still operating and it was the most frustrating because at that point, you're thinking, where else can I go?
39:29Who can help us shut this down?
39:32What you want to do on a story like this is to hold somebody accountable and make them answer questions.
39:44This is someone who's evaded scrutiny and accountability for almost two years.
39:50At this point, I had absolutely no idea whether there was one death or a hundred deaths.
39:55I believed he knew his customers were purchasing his poison to take their own lives, but I needed to get him on the phone admitting this.
40:06On his EskMode website, he offered a 40-minute consultation call with a prospective buyer of one of his products.
40:16So I purchased a consultation call.
40:22And waited for him to reach out.
40:25This is very much a modern phenomenon.
40:47The poison has legitimate uses.
40:50And up until recently, the legitimate uses were its own uses.
40:56But for the last five or six years in particular, this poison has been linked to a number of suicides.
41:06This case gets complicated because this substance is reportable under the Poisons Act.
41:11But all that means is that the seller has to report suspicious transactions to the authorities.
41:21If you come across a seller that isn't reporting suspicious transactions, the implication is that they would be knowingly selling that substance to people who might be using it to harm themselves and profiting from that.
41:34I decided to speak to Kenneth Law under the guise of someone who needed help in order to get him to tell me things he wouldn't tell me if I was a journalist calling up.
41:49I needed to get him to admit on the phone that he was selling intentionally to a person that was suicidal.
41:57This would be the one and only chance to nail down who he was and find out the scale of his operation.
42:06Of course, I couldn't use my real name.
42:20Hello, Ken here.
42:21Hi, Ken, it's John.
42:24Hi, John. How are you doing today?
42:26Yeah, I'm good. How are you?
42:28So, you're interested in some of our products.
42:30I just wanted to be really sure about my purchase, basically.
42:34What do you think the chances are that it will kill me?
42:39I mean, it's a very, very high probability.
42:42Is it legal?
42:43Well, OK, that's very much for a grey area.
42:46As long as I don't say that the intent is to commit suicide, then it's fine.
42:51And you can assure me that you've done this before with people in the UK?
42:55Yes, yes, yes.
42:56And they've died because of this?
42:58Yes, absolutely.
43:04Do I cause any problems for you?
43:06The only thing I ask is that any documentation, communication that we've exchanged, they destroy a prior.
43:13Any type of labels that might be on the mailing box to destroy that or dispose of the prior.
43:18Yeah.
43:18Other than that, it's not really traceable.
43:20So, you just tell the police that you don't know why this person's bought it?
43:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
43:27It's even easier for me, you know, sending it to national, right?
43:31So, the UK government has no jurisdiction to the Canadian government.
43:35And they're not going to, you know, bring me over to the UK for this.
43:38It's too small.
43:42How many people have you sent it to in the UK?
43:44How many countries do you send this to?
44:14Of course.
44:17Many countries.
44:19Probably in the least of dozens now, right?
44:30Sounds like a full-time job.
44:32I've been checked with you, yeah.
44:34Mac, Mac, Mac, Mac.
44:35I've been checked with you, yeah.
44:43Just evil.
44:46Okay, take good care of yourself.
44:48Thank you, bye.
44:54Hearing his voice, to me, that's the man who murdered my kid.
45:01he knew exactly what he was doing kenneth law is a sure and present danger to the public
45:12he is connected to an enterprise of suicide methods hundreds of deaths dozens of countries
45:22and other people are still dying he has no intentions of stopping if somebody doesn't stop him
45:31i couldn't let him slip away i needed to go to canada to track him down
45:40and properly hold him accountable for these deaths
