First mother-son rowing and kayak duo travels length of River Murray in four months

Anja Wever and Cy Wever-Jetis are the first mother-son duo to travel the entire River Murray, according to the Inland Rivers National Marathon Register. The pair crossed three states in 127 days and hiked and paddled more than 2,500 kilometres.

00:00Welcomed with a seal of approval, this duo have made history as the first mother and

00:08son to traverse the entire length of the River Murray.

00:11It feels amazing.

00:13I think it's just amazing.

00:15I'm lost for words.

00:17The pair started their journey hiking from the river source in Kosciuszko National Park,

00:22rowing and paddling down the Murray through three states over more than four months.

00:26Locals stepped in to lend a hand along the way.

00:29My gate started squeaking and I needed some W40.

00:33And we asked some of the fishermen, no sorry we don't have W40.

00:37And then two hours later I saw the fishermen came back for us, hunting us down the river

00:42with a W40.

00:45Fairy friends even tried to hitch a ride.

00:50But the trip wasn't always smooth sailing.

00:53In a few situations where we had whitecaps and we just had to push through and it's a

00:58bit scary.

00:59We had some really hard moments where we thought about how nice it would be if we weren't on

01:03the river.

01:04You know, we thought about being home and stuff.

01:05But even from the start, quitting was never really an option because we only really had

01:10one chance to do it.

01:10The Inland Rivers National Marathon Register shows more than 530 people have completed the

01:16epic journey along the length of the River Murray since the register began 70 years ago.

01:20Anja and Sai hope that their adventure will inspire others to add their name to the list.

01:40So the Mari I wouldn't do again because I've done the Mari now.

01:43But I was thinking it was the Amazon.

01:45Sounds like a decision to be made after a bit of rest.
