00:04:33Oh, hey. Are you my roommate?
00:04:36Uh, I guess so.
00:04:37I'm Allie.
00:04:38Rachel.
00:04:39I went ahead and threw my stuff on a bed. I didn't know which one you wanted, so I just picked one.
00:04:42That's fine.
00:04:43We're just going to the student union.
00:04:44You want to come with us?
00:04:45I think I'm going to get moved in first.
00:04:47You need help with your stuff?
00:04:48I got it. Thank you.
00:04:49All right. I'll see you later, then.
00:04:51All right. I'll see you later, then.
00:04:51See ya.
00:04:51Welcome, welcome, welcome. Is everybody alive?
00:05:06Yes.
00:05:07I say, is everybody alive?
00:05:09Yes.
00:05:10There we go. If you're wondering what plane you're on, this is Introduction to Biology, where we will be studying life and its origins and all that good stuff.
00:05:20So, if you're on the wrong flight, this would be the time to disembark.
00:05:25I am your humble pilot, Professor Marcus Kamen.
00:05:29Out in the hall, behind my back, you can call me anything you like.
00:05:32But in here, I would appreciate Professor Kamen.
00:05:35Or, if you must, Mr. Professor Kamen.
00:05:40I'm going to try my best to entertain you during our time together.
00:05:43In return, I would appreciate from you a little critical thinking.
00:05:47Science is, after all, the field which challenges us to redefine the conventional wisdom of our predecessors.
00:05:55That's what makes us grow as a society and as a species.
00:05:59I want to have some honest, intellectual discussion in here.
00:06:03And I want each and every one of you to participate.
00:06:06And that includes you.
00:06:09And now for the good news.
00:06:11It's about your grades.
00:06:13Attend this class and you will pass.
00:06:15In fact, if you show up every time, I'll give you a C, even if I know you're only pretending to listen to me.
00:06:25What are you doing?
00:06:27Just a little work.
00:06:28Rachel, this is our first weekend at college.
00:06:30We're going out.
00:06:31You look like you could use a friend.
00:06:57What?
00:06:59I said you look like you could use a friend.
00:07:02Hard to hear you.
00:07:03Let's go outside.
00:07:15That's better.
00:07:16I'm Jason.
00:07:17Rachel.
00:07:18Good to meet you, Rachel.
00:07:19You a freshman?
00:07:20Yep.
00:07:20I was a freshman once.
00:07:23Last year.
00:07:24You liking your classes so far?
00:07:25They're pretty good.
00:07:26What are you taking?
00:07:27English, Spanish, government, algebra, and biology.
00:07:31Biology?
00:07:31Did you get Kamen?
00:07:32I did.
00:07:33Professor Marcus Kamen.
00:07:35Welcome, welcome, welcome.
00:07:37Is everybody alive?
00:07:38That's right.
00:07:39Yeah, I had him last year.
00:07:40He's a fun guy.
00:07:42You know, he made biology really interesting and I hate biology.
00:07:44I'll look forward to it then.
00:07:46You have a major yet, Rachel?
00:07:47I do.
00:07:47What is it?
00:07:48Biology.
00:07:50Oh.
00:07:56I brought you some juice.
00:07:59You ever going to get up?
00:08:01What time is it?
00:08:03Almost ten.
00:08:05So how was it with Jason?
00:08:07He was nice.
00:08:09We just talked.
00:08:11Do you know him?
00:08:12I was here this summer and I met him.
00:08:15He's available.
00:08:16I wouldn't wait around, though.
00:08:18He won't be single for very long.
00:08:21Yes, Richard.
00:08:22Looking forward to it.
00:08:23I've got it down.
00:08:25Rachel?
00:08:26Yeah, she's fine.
00:08:28Yep, she ended up going off to the university.
00:08:32Well, Kimberly and I struggled a lot with that
00:08:34because our goal was to send her to a good Christian college,
00:08:36but she really wants to be a pharmacist
00:08:38and they have a great program.
00:08:39She'll find a good church over there.
00:08:42Ladies and gentlemen,
00:08:48today we're going to answer the age-old question
00:08:51that has been asked by generation after generation
00:08:54throughout history.
00:08:55It is the question of questions
00:08:57concerning the origins of life.
00:08:59It is, of course,
00:09:01which came first, the chicken or the egg?
00:09:05Now, how many of you would answer that
00:09:07by saying the egg came first?
00:09:09Raise your hands.
00:09:09Mr. Blair, why the egg?
00:09:15Because without the egg,
00:09:16there could be no chicken.
00:09:18Good answer.
00:09:19Now, how many of you would say
00:09:20the chicken came first?
00:09:22Raise your hands.
00:09:26All right, Miss Whitaker,
00:09:27why the chicken?
00:09:28Because without the chicken,
00:09:29there could be no egg.
00:09:30Good.
00:09:31Once again, if you're with Mr. Blair,
00:09:33you think the egg came first,
00:09:34raise your hands.
00:09:36Now, if you think it was the chicken,
00:09:38well, the correct answer is,
00:09:44drum roll, please,
00:09:45the egg.
00:09:49The egg came first.
00:09:52Scientific research of the fossil record
00:09:54and the diversity and similarity
00:09:56of living organisms
00:09:57has convinced most scientific minds
00:10:00that complex life forms
00:10:02evolved from simpler life forms.
00:10:05And if we open our books to Chapter 2,
00:10:07we can study this in a little more detail.
00:10:15I just got a text from Jason.
00:10:17He wants me to meet him right now
00:10:17at the student union.
00:10:18I'm telling you, he likes you.
00:10:20He's just a friend.
00:10:21It sounds like he wants to be
00:10:22more than just friends.
00:10:24Hey, what did you think about
00:10:25what Professor Cayman was just saying?
00:10:27About what?
00:10:28About the egg coming first?
00:10:29Sounds okay to me.
00:10:31I know my dad would not agree with that.
00:10:33Well, Daddy's not here.
00:10:34Jason is.
00:10:35Go live with him.
00:10:36What's this?
00:10:40Have I got an important job for you.
00:10:43Okay, what's this?
00:10:44Old newspapers.
00:10:45We need to archive all of the key articles
00:10:47onto our website.
00:10:48All right, I think I can handle that.
00:10:51Shane, I think there's more newspapers
00:10:52than just this.
00:10:54Huh?
00:10:55That's right.
00:10:56This is only about five years worth.
00:10:57We'll start with these.
00:10:59Well, how many years are we going to do?
00:11:01Well, the paper's been in existence
00:11:02for over 60 years.
00:11:0460?
00:11:04It'll take me all semester to do that.
00:11:07And the university will be indebted to you
00:11:09for your effort.
00:11:10No, wait, Mr. Jameson, I was mistaken.
00:11:13It'll take me my entire college career to do this.
00:11:17And the university will be indebted to you
00:11:19for your effort.
00:11:19So she comes over last night to watch TV,
00:11:29and then she said she's only going to watch it
00:11:31with me in the lounge.
00:11:33I mean, is that stupid or what?
00:11:34You know how to pick them.
00:11:35Yeah, I know how to drop them, too.
00:11:37What?
00:11:38She's one of the cutest freshmen you've seen.
00:11:40I don't care.
00:11:41Aren't you getting with her later today
00:11:42at that student union?
00:11:44Supposed to.
00:11:44You know what your problem is, Jason?
00:11:46You give up too easily.
00:11:49Steven?
00:11:50Dinner in five.
00:11:51Washing you up.
00:11:52Be right there.
00:11:53All right, here's your hundred.
00:12:12You know what you're going to say, right?
00:12:13I already told you I'm not going to do this.
00:12:15Rachel, come on.
00:12:15This is a good idea.
00:12:16But I can't do it.
00:12:17Yes, you can.
00:12:18It's just Tyler.
00:12:19He's my roommate.
00:12:20The guy in the red shirt.
00:12:22But I can't.
00:12:22You have to, because he's cute.
00:12:24You think everybody's cute?
00:12:25Well, he is.
00:12:27Now go.
00:12:27I can't.
00:12:28Rachel, if you pull this off,
00:12:30everybody's going to be talking about this for years.
00:12:32Yeah, but why me?
00:12:33Let Ellie go.
00:12:33No, he met Ellie this summer.
00:12:35He might know something's up.
00:12:37Would you come up with something like this anyway?
00:12:39I found this old book in the library.
00:12:40From when?
00:12:41In the 1970s?
00:12:42Actually, 1960s.
00:12:44But thank you very much.
00:12:45It happens to be why nobody knows about this.
00:12:47This is so stupid.
00:12:48Rachel, this is fun.
00:12:49What are you worrying about?
00:12:50I got your back.
00:12:51I don't know.
00:12:52You've got to loosen up, girl.
00:12:54I won't be able to say it with a straight face.
00:12:56Yes, you can.
00:12:57Come on, Rachel.
00:12:57Just do it in the name of college fun.
00:12:59Yeah.
00:13:00This is your moment.
00:13:03It'll be great.
00:13:05Trust me.
00:13:06All right.
00:13:14All right.
00:13:16Here are your eggs.
00:13:18I just got to say everything exactly the way I told you to say it.
00:13:21Okay.
00:13:21I have no idea why I'm doing this.
00:13:23You both are going to owe me.
00:13:24Excuse me, good looking.
00:13:44Me?
00:13:44Yes, you.
00:13:47You want to make $100?
00:13:48$100?
00:13:50$100?
00:13:50$100?
00:13:50Yeah.
00:13:51$100 right here.
00:13:53Yeah, right.
00:13:54What's the catch?
00:13:55No catch.
00:13:56You just let me crack these three eggs over your head, and this $100 bill is yours.
00:14:01What?
00:14:01You heard me.
00:14:02I crack these eggs over your head, and this $100 bill is yours.
00:14:06Do it, Tyler.
00:14:09Come on.
00:14:09This is a joke, right?
00:14:11Yeah.
00:14:11Your friend can hold the bill.
00:14:12It's real money, man.
00:14:16That's a lot of cash.
00:14:18What gives?
00:14:19It may seem like a lot to you, but where I come from, that's fair change.
00:14:23Just do it, man.
00:14:23Come on.
00:14:24Come on, man.
00:14:24$100.
00:14:25It's $100.
00:14:25Dude, easy money, bro.
00:14:27Three eggs.
00:14:27Do it.
00:14:28Come on.
00:14:29Yeah, dude.
00:14:29Let's go.
00:14:30Okay.
00:14:30Go for it.
00:14:31What do I need to do?
00:14:33Just sit right there.
00:14:34All right.
00:14:35Tyler.
00:14:36Tyler.
00:14:36That's what I'm talking about.
00:14:37It's going to be awesome.
00:14:38$100.
00:14:38Right here.
00:14:39Right here.
00:14:40Here comes egg number one.
00:14:42Oh, look at him, dude.
00:14:47Okay, and now egg number two.
00:14:50Are you ready?
00:14:50Yeah.
00:14:51Here we go.
00:14:51All right.
00:14:52Let's do it.
00:14:53Oh.
00:14:54It's coming now.
00:14:57Scrambled, son.
00:14:58All right.
00:14:59One more to go, boys, and that $100 is mine.
00:15:01$100.
00:15:01Let's go.
00:15:02Last one.
00:15:02Yeah, you know, I think two is enough.
00:15:04I'll just take this $100.
00:15:06Wait, what?
00:15:07Hey, hey, that's my $100.
00:15:08I said three eggs.
00:15:09I only did two.
00:15:10Bye.
00:15:11There it goes.
00:15:12What?
00:15:13What are you kidding me?
00:15:14$100.
00:15:15That's not fair.
00:15:18That's not fair.
00:15:25Marcus Kamen.
00:15:26Professor Kamen.
00:15:28Well, hello, Phil.
00:15:29Just calling to get your topic for the October debate.
00:15:32I'd like to promo it at the one we're doing tomorrow night.
00:15:34I thought we were going in November.
00:15:36Originally, yes, but it got switched around.
00:15:38You didn't get the memo?
00:15:40No, I didn't.
00:15:42Do you mean to tell me there was a communication breakdown between our journalism department and
00:15:46yours?
00:15:47Again?
00:15:48Imagine that.
00:15:49Phil, I don't even have a topic yet.
00:15:51Can you give me a week or so?
00:15:53Yeah, sure.
00:15:54I'll just say it's going to be your department doing the next one.
00:15:57So what are you and Jason doing later?
00:16:00We're not.
00:16:02Is he busy or something?
00:16:04I don't know.
00:16:07Wait, isn't he still calling you?
00:16:08Yesterday when we talked, he hinted that we were just going to be friends.
00:16:14So.
00:16:15I'm sorry.
00:16:16It's fine.
00:16:17He's just a friend.
00:16:19There's never anything more.
00:16:22I'm going to go to the library.
00:16:27You okay?
00:16:29Yeah, fine.
00:16:31See ya.
00:16:37How's the archiving going, buddy?
00:16:39It's going.
00:16:41He gave me five years to do, and I'm on year two.
00:16:45Sounds like world record pace to me.
00:16:47Sounds like a waste of time to me.
00:16:49And who's going to read all these old things?
00:16:51You do know why you're doing this, right?
00:16:54No idea.
00:16:55You put the articles online, the alumni read them, relive their glory days, and donations
00:17:00go up.
00:17:01Couldn't have said it better myself.
00:17:03Wait, if that's what this is all about, I should be getting a cut here.
00:17:06Hmm.
00:17:07Evan, you're all set to cover the debate tomorrow night, right?
00:17:09Yes, sir.
00:17:09I'll be there.
00:17:10I should get a cut of this, Mr. Jameson.
00:17:13And the university will be indebted to you for your effort.
00:17:16No matter how many times I throw it to him, no matter how accurate I am, you just can't
00:17:26catch it.
00:17:28Hey, just, uh...
00:17:29Just give me about five minutes, let me show you where the computer is, all right?
00:17:50Oh, excuse me.
00:17:50Can you tell me if I'm in the right place to get breakfast?
00:17:52I was hoping to get a couple eggs.
00:17:54Oh, hi.
00:17:57Thought we should be, uh, formally introduced.
00:17:59Tyler Mathis.
00:18:01Rachel Whitaker.
00:18:02I'm really sorry about what I did.
00:18:03What about that?
00:18:04Hey, look, anytime a pretty girl comes up to me and says, hey, good looking, that's all
00:18:08I need to hear.
00:18:09She can crack eggs over my head anytime.
00:18:12You know who put me up to it.
00:18:14Yeah.
00:18:15Yeah, I know.
00:18:16I'll get him back.
00:18:17Get him one for me while you're at it, will ya?
00:18:19You got it.
00:18:21You mind if I sit for a minute?
00:18:22Go ahead.
00:18:25What you working on?
00:18:26Report for biology.
00:18:28You got Cayman?
00:18:29I got Cayman.
00:18:30You know you don't have to do any work in there, right?
00:18:32All you have to do is show up every time and you get a C.
00:18:34That's what he said.
00:18:35Yeah.
00:18:36Well, it's true.
00:18:37I had him last year.
00:18:38The man kept his word and I am living proof.
00:18:40Well, I need to get better than a C.
00:18:42My major's biology.
00:18:43Gotcha.
00:18:44So, you aren't going to the debate tomorrow night, right?
00:18:51Debate?
00:18:51Yeah, at the Fine Arts Center.
00:18:53What debate?
00:18:54What is it?
00:18:55There's posters everywhere.
00:18:58I haven't seen any.
00:19:00Well, there's one right back there.
00:19:03Where?
00:19:06If you look just around the corner, next to the copy machine on the left on the bulletin board,
00:19:11there's a poster.
00:19:12I guess you missed it.
00:19:13Must have missed it.
00:19:15And these are campus events.
00:19:17I mean, first of all, they're educational, which is what college is all about.
00:19:20Second of all, everybody goes, so they're social, which is what college is all about.
00:19:27The debates are musts.
00:19:30Picking you up.
00:19:32What?
00:19:34You and me.
00:19:35We're going to the debate.
00:19:38I don't...
00:19:39I don't know.
00:19:40I don't know.
00:19:43I think that a certain someone at this table was another someone at this table a small favor.
00:19:50Good evening and welcome.
00:20:00Thank you all for coming.
00:20:02I'm Phil Jameson, professor of journalism here at the university.
00:20:05And I will also be your moderator for this evening's event.
00:20:07Great crowd, huh?
00:20:07Yeah, I'm glad we got here early.
00:20:10Yeah.
00:20:11I was afraid we weren't going to get a C.
00:20:13And tonight's debate is presented by the math department.
00:20:16So let me introduce our two debaters to you now.
00:20:19Thanks for walking me back.
00:20:25It was fun.
00:20:26Hey, hey, uh, any chance of us doing something again?
00:20:31I don't know.
00:20:32Well, you did crack two eggs over my head, so I feel like maybe I should get two chances.
00:20:37You got me there.
00:20:38How about this weekend?
00:20:40No, I can't.
00:20:40I'm visiting my parents this weekend.
00:20:42Ah, yeah, gotta do that.
00:20:44They are anxious to see me.
00:20:46Well, how about when you get back?
00:20:47Yeah, that could work.
00:20:52Well, okay then.
00:20:53I'll call you.
00:20:55And thanks for coming out with me tonight, and I'll see you.
00:20:59See ya.
00:21:01Okay.
00:21:01Dinner soon.
00:21:17Okay.
00:21:18Thanks, Dad.
00:21:19You busy?
00:21:19Just sending a text back to Tyler.
00:21:21Oh.
00:21:22Your boyfriend?
00:21:23He's a friend.
00:21:24I just met him.
00:21:26So tell me more about your classes.
00:21:28They're going good.
00:21:29I really like all of my instructors, especially my biology teacher, Professor Gaiman.
00:21:33He's a riot.
00:21:34You and your roommate getting along?
00:21:35Oh, yeah.
00:21:36Allie's great.
00:21:37We get along well.
00:21:38Good.
00:21:38You were always good at making friends.
00:21:41Yeah.
00:21:41Meeting new people every day, it seems.
00:21:43Did you find a church yet?
00:21:45No, not yet.
00:21:45I've just been so busy getting used to everything.
00:21:48But I will.
00:21:48Come on.
00:21:50We're going to be late for church.
00:21:51We need to go.
00:21:53I'm here.
00:21:54Honey, we live so close.
00:21:55It's embarrassing when we're late.
00:21:56Stephen!
00:21:57He's also here.
00:21:58Let's go, Rachel.
00:21:58We'll meet you in the car, Stephen.
00:22:00Okay.
00:22:00Dad, will you grab my Bible for me?
00:22:01Sure.
00:22:02I'm headed out.
00:22:27It feels like you just got here.
00:22:28I'll be back to visit soon.
00:22:30Oh.
00:22:32Bye, Dad.
00:22:33Love you.
00:22:33Drive careful.
00:22:34Love you, too.
00:22:37Let us know when you get there.
00:22:38I will.
00:22:48Bye.
00:22:56She seems to be doing well.
00:22:58She's made some friends, likes her glasses,
00:23:00seems to really like that one with Professor Kamen.
00:23:04I'm glad.
00:23:04The guy's an evolutionist and a big proponent of a pastor.
00:23:25He's written several published articles.
00:23:27I mean, it's a long list.
00:23:28And there's nothing in the whole course description about biblical creation as even a plausible alternative,
00:23:33from what I can see.
00:23:34Does that surprise you?
00:23:36All our public schools and universities teach evolution as the answer to the origins of life.
00:23:40Even some of our Christian schools are buying into the evolution theory as part of the creation account.
00:23:46You're kidding.
00:23:47The attack on Genesis is a real battleground.
00:23:50Well, I certainly don't like the idea of Rachel sitting under this guy in class.
00:23:53Have you had a chance to speak to her about it?
00:23:54No, not yet, but I will.
00:23:58Actually, she's not the one I'd like to talk to.
00:24:02Mr. Blair, may I dialogue with you for a moment?
00:24:06Uh, yes, sir.
00:24:07I understand you're here on a track scholarship.
00:24:09You're a 1500 meter man.
00:24:11Yes, I am.
00:24:12Congratulations.
00:24:14I used to do a bit of track myself back in the day, so I know a little of what you guys go through.
00:24:19Do you mind my asking what's your best time in that event?
00:24:22Uh, 4.03.
00:24:24Four minutes and three seconds.
00:24:25That is very impressive running.
00:24:27That must be the best time on your team.
00:24:29No, there's actually three guys ahead of me right now.
00:24:32Three?
00:24:33Well, then I guess you've got a little competition ahead of you, don't you?
00:24:37Yeah, I'll get them.
00:24:39That's the spirit.
00:24:40You got, what, ten teams in the conference?
00:24:43I think so.
00:24:44No, there are.
00:24:44I checked.
00:24:45So let's say there are four fellas on each team running the 1500.
00:24:48That's 40 runners.
00:24:50Where do you think you'd place among them?
00:24:53Not sure, sir.
00:24:5430th, maybe?
00:24:55Could be.
00:24:56Well, then I guess you've got a lot of competition ahead of you.
00:25:00Yeah, yeah, I guess so.
00:25:01Well, you're a freshman.
00:25:03We'll give you time to move up through the conference, which I'm sure you will.
00:25:06Well, besides, we can look at this whole thing from another angle.
00:25:11For one thing, Mr. Blair can certainly outrun anyone in this class, but better than that,
00:25:16if he had run the 1500 meters in that kind of time, in the 1896 Olympics, he would have
00:25:23won gold.
00:25:24He'd won by 30 seconds.
00:25:26And if he'd done the same in the 1904 Olympics, he would have won by two seconds.
00:25:31Do you see what's happening here?
00:25:34As we evolve, we're getting faster, stronger, smarter.
00:25:39Look at the technological leaps that have happened just in the last 50 years.
00:25:43Imagine what our species is going to be like 100 years from now.
00:25:48How cool would it be to stick around to see that?
00:25:56Hey, I figured you'd be here.
00:25:59A few of us are going downtown to grab a bite to eat, and there's a jazz band playing.
00:26:02Why don't you call Tyler and come with us?
00:26:04I can't.
00:26:04I just got here, and I've got to finish this for Cayman's class.
00:26:07Can't you do it later?
00:26:08It's not due till Thursday.
00:26:10I know, but I've got other work to do, too.
00:26:12You're so studious.
00:26:13Okay, well, if you change your mind, call me.
00:26:15Okay, have fun.
00:26:18You're taking Cayman's class?
00:26:21Pardon?
00:26:22Sorry, I couldn't help but overhear.
00:26:23You're taking Professor Cayman's class.
00:26:25Yes, I am.
00:26:26You too?
00:26:27No, I had him a couple years ago.
00:26:29His class is so interesting.
00:26:30Didn't you like him?
00:26:32Like him?
00:26:33Yeah, he seems like a nice guy.
00:26:35Agree with him?
00:26:37That's a different story.
00:26:39Don't you think Professor Cayman has some good concepts?
00:26:41He could be right.
00:26:42It looks like you've got a lot of work to do,
00:26:45and I was just on my way out myself, so...
00:26:48By the way, my name's Evan.
00:26:50Evan Carlson.
00:26:51Nice to meet you.
00:26:53Rachel Whitaker.
00:26:55All right.
00:26:56See you around, Rachel Whitaker.
00:26:58Yeah.
00:26:58Yeah.
00:27:01By the way, Rachel.
00:27:04He's not right.
00:27:05You sure those girls are going to be there?
00:27:14He told me they were coming.
00:27:15Just remember, I get first pick.
00:27:17Yeah, right.
00:27:18You'll be lucky if one of them even says hi to you.
00:27:20Don't worry, Luke.
00:27:21Jason ain't going to get anybody, so you'll get your pick.
00:27:24Okay, how about you worry about your own deal you got going on?
00:27:26Tyler's still playing that game with Rachel?
00:27:28Oh, yeah.
00:27:29And striking out.
00:27:30Actually, we're building a meaningful relationship.
00:27:33Something you two amateurs wouldn't know anything about.
00:27:35Which, after translation, means that he's not getting anywhere.
00:27:39Come on, Tyler, man.
00:27:40I told you, you should just dump her.
00:27:41Look, boys.
00:27:42I'm not just going to let someone crack two eggs over my head
00:27:45and come away empty.
00:27:46All right?
00:27:46I'm just not as impatient as Jason over here.
00:27:49All right, my little plan will play out.
00:27:51Just wait and see.
00:27:52I just talked to Rachel.
00:27:53I told her I could take the day off tomorrow,
00:27:55and we'd ride up for a quick visit.
00:27:56She said she'd love to have us.
00:27:58We'll take her out to an early dinner, and then drive back.
00:28:00Up and back in one day?
00:28:01Don't worry.
00:28:02I'll drive.
00:28:02You can sleep on the way home.
00:28:09Hi, Mom.
00:28:10Hi, honey.
00:28:11I can't believe you guys decided to come up here today.
00:28:13Well, it was your father's idea.
00:28:15Where is Dad?
00:28:18Professor Kamen?
00:28:19Yes.
00:28:20My name is Stephen Whitaker.
00:28:21May I speak with you for a moment?
00:28:23Sure.
00:28:23I'm sorry.
00:28:24Have we met?
00:28:25No, but my daughter is in your freshman biology class,
00:28:28Rachel Whitaker.
00:28:29Ah, Rachel.
00:28:30She's a pleasure to have in class.
00:28:33Professor Kamen, I don't mean to come off so direct
00:28:36or with any disrespect, but I'm concerned about what
00:28:39you're teaching in your class.
00:28:40Is that so?
00:28:42Can you give me an example?
00:28:44Well, it seems your class deals quite a bit
00:28:46with the subject of evolution.
00:28:47Yes, it does.
00:28:49Can you explain to me why you teach only evolution?
00:28:51Sure.
00:28:52But first, let me ask you, Mr. Whitaker, are you a religious man?
00:28:57A religious man?
00:28:58Well, you believe in God and the Bible?
00:29:00Yes, sir, I do.
00:29:01And does that help you?
00:29:03Help me?
00:29:04Does that help you to be at peace with yourself?
00:29:07Yes, it does.
00:29:08Well, then I think that's great, and I would encourage you to go on believing.
00:29:12No, you're teaching evolution.
00:29:14Mr. Whitaker, I teach what my textbooks tell me to teach.
00:29:17It comes from real people who have conducted real experiments
00:29:21and observed real evidence, and frankly, I'm at peace with that.
00:29:26But it goes against the core beliefs of everything we've been teaching, Rachel,
00:29:29all her life, against what Christianity stands for.
00:29:32Dad?
00:29:33Hello, Rachel.
00:29:34What are you doing here?
00:29:35I came by to talk to your instructor.
00:29:38But why?
00:29:39Well, I just wanted to stop by for a minute.
00:29:42Hello, Rachel.
00:29:43Professor Kamen.
00:29:44Mr. Whitaker, I've got to meet with another student momentary,
00:29:47so I'm afraid we're going to have to pick up this discussion at another time.
00:29:51But I tell you what,
00:29:52you strongly believe in the creation story from the Bible, right?
00:29:56Yes, that's correct, but I don't call it a story.
00:29:58Every month, the university sponsors a debate that is also open to the public.
00:30:03My department will be hosting the next one on October 19th.
00:30:07Why don't you and I debate this issue?
00:30:10It would be a great opportunity for you to express your views.
00:30:13They're moderated.
00:30:14They're orderly.
00:30:15Evolution versus creationism.
00:30:18What do you say?
00:30:19No, I couldn't do that.
00:30:20I mean, I never intended to...
00:30:22Professor Kamen, my dad can't debate you.
00:30:24Rachel, your father has the passion of his beliefs.
00:30:27That's what makes for a great debate.
00:30:30You can read off a prepared text.
00:30:32That's done all the time.
00:30:33But, Dad, you can't.
00:30:35Now, wait a minute, Professor Kamen.
00:30:37I did not come in here with any intention of doing a debate with you.
00:30:39I understand, Mr. Whitaker.
00:30:41It's just that I think this topic would be so valuable for the students.
00:30:46And you do believe in your viewpoint, don't you?
00:30:53I can't believe Dad agreed to debate Professor Kamen.
00:30:56Mom, you've got to stop this.
00:30:57The man cornered me, Rachel.
00:30:59What was I supposed to say?
00:31:00You could have said no.
00:31:01This man obviously has no respect for God or anything that we believe in.
00:31:05But Professor Kamen doesn't claim to be a Christian either.
00:31:08Do you know how embarrassing this is going to be for me?
00:31:10I don't want to embarrass anyone, especially you.
00:31:13Dad, you're not going to convert Professor Kamen to your beliefs, so why even try?
00:31:17Actually, it's not his beliefs that I'm concerned about.
00:31:20What's that supposed to mean?
00:31:21I feel this man is affecting you, Rachel, and he's causing you to change your views.
00:31:25That's ridiculous.
00:31:26Mom, say something.
00:31:27Honey, your father's just concerned about you, that's all.
00:31:30I can't believe this is happening.
00:31:31And I'm certainly not happy with what this Kamen guy is teaching you.
00:31:36Let's just go to dinner.
00:31:45Phil Jameson.
00:31:46Marcus Kamen.
00:31:47Professor.
00:31:49Hey, Phil, I think I've got the topic for the next debate.
00:31:52How does evolution versus creationism sound?
00:31:55Aha.
00:31:56Well, unless you've changed teams, I know what side you fall on.
00:32:00We'll note it on the calendar of events.
00:32:02Well, it seems some of my views are being challenged.
00:32:04Now, who in their right mind would challenge anything you say?
00:32:08The father of one of my students.
00:32:10The plot thickens.
00:32:12Yeah, I've got a religious dad who doesn't like his little girl thinking for herself.
00:32:16I see.
00:32:17I might have to do a little publicity on this just to build the crowd.
00:32:21Well, I've got his name and number right here if you need them.
00:32:24Yeah, no problem.
00:32:24Here you go.
00:32:27Evan.
00:32:28Got our topic for the next debate, and I think this one will be of interest to you.
00:32:31Seems the father of one of our students is challenging Professor Kamen.
00:32:35Evolution versus creationism?
00:32:37I want to do a story on this prior to the debate and build it up.
00:32:41There's the father's contact information.
00:32:42See what you can find out.
00:32:43You know, his purpose, motive, what he hopes to accomplish.
00:32:46I'll get Shane to do the same thing with Professor Kamen.
00:32:48Okay, so we'll do.
00:32:49Who knows?
00:32:50Maybe we'll get some community interest on this one.
00:32:55Whitaker.
00:32:56Before we begin today, I'd like to make a brief announcement.
00:33:01Each month, the university sponsors a debate at the Fine Arts Center, and our department will be hosting the next one.
00:33:08Yours truly will be taking part, as it's a topic that is near and dear to my heart.
00:33:13Evolution versus creationism.
00:33:16Now, we have a slightly unusual situation this time, in that my debate opponent is the father of one of the students in this class,
00:33:24Ms. Rachel Whitaker.
00:33:26I don't doubt that Ms. Whitaker finds the situation a little embarrassing,
00:33:30but I want her to know that she has my complete support at this time,
00:33:34when she's beginning to think for herself.
00:33:37I just wanted the rest of you to be aware of the situation,
00:33:41and I hope you're all planning on coming to the debate as a part of your participation in this course.
00:33:47Okay?
00:33:48Let's get to work.
00:33:49Open your books to Chapter 6.
00:33:56We just left after dinner, and I felt it best to give her some time. She's pretty upset.
00:34:00I agree. Sometimes it is the right thing to do.
00:34:03Maybe I shouldn't have accepted, but I felt put on the spot.
00:34:05Now I feel like Rachel's against me because of this.
00:34:07She's not against you, Stephen.
00:34:09Plus, I'm not a public speaker like he is. I've never done anything like this before.
00:34:12Look, you know we're here to help you any way we can.
00:34:16I appreciate that.
00:34:17Rachel, right?
00:34:37My name's Evan. We met the other day.
00:34:39Can I talk to you for a minute?
00:34:41Not right now. I've got a lot on my mind.
00:34:43Is your father's name Stephen?
00:34:44I can't believe my father went to see one of my professors,
00:34:48and then, like, some self-righteous fundamentalist gets into a discussion about creation and evolution.
00:34:53I'm sorry you're so upset.
00:34:55I mean, do you have any idea how embarrassing this is going to be for me?
00:34:58Rachel, I wouldn't be looking at it that way.
00:35:00Well, how would you like it if your parent was going to debate the most popular professor on campus?
00:35:04I mean, put yourself in my shoes.
00:35:05I understand, but I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing.
00:35:08It's not like Professor Kamen's preaching some sort of gospel truth here.
00:35:11I've got to stop this.
00:35:12Honey, I know she's upset, but I think she's just going to get over it.
00:35:17It's Rachel.
00:35:20Rachel!
00:35:21Hi, Dad.
00:35:22I'm calling to ask you to please stop this debate.
00:35:25Rachel, we were just talking about you. I'm glad you called.
00:35:28This is going to ruin me on campus, Dad.
00:35:30I'm not trying to hurt you.
00:35:31But you are!
00:35:33Rachel, this is an important issue.
00:35:35You're not going to change Professor Kamen's mind.
00:35:37Then how does he believe the universe was created?
00:35:40What does he teach you in class?
00:35:41That there was a Big Bang or something?
00:35:43Dad, if you love me, you will stop this debate.
00:35:46Please don't say that.
00:35:47You must stop this debate.
00:35:49Rachel, please.
00:35:50You must stop it!
00:35:54She hung up.
00:35:57You can't leave it like that.
00:35:58You've got to call her back.
00:36:03Hi, this is Rachel Whitaker.
00:36:04I'm not here right now.
00:36:05Please.
00:36:06Voicemail.
00:36:15Hey.
00:36:16Hey.
00:36:17I set up a meeting with Professor Kamen to do that interview.
00:36:19Did you talk to that father yet?
00:36:21Oh, no.
00:36:21I was just getting ready to call him.
00:36:22Yeah?
00:36:22Before you do, I think you should check this out.
00:36:25What?
00:36:26Professor Kamen was in the news yesterday.
00:36:28Front-page story.
00:36:29We didn't run a story in Kamen yesterday.
00:36:31Yeah.
00:36:31Well, we did 12 years ago.
00:36:34It appears our dear professor got one of his colleagues fired over the same issue.
00:36:38What?
00:36:39Yeah, some instructor named Portland refused to teach evolution in his biology class and
00:36:43Kamen got him ousted.
00:36:45It's all there.
00:36:48Oh, and, uh, by the way, you talked to that dad.
00:36:53Tell him I said good luck.
00:36:58Listen to what it says in this high school textbook I picked up at the library.
00:37:01Humans came from ape-like ancestors.
00:37:04There is nothing supernatural about the origins of human beings.
00:37:07How can they say that and get away with it?
00:37:09I don't know, but they are.
00:37:10Steven Whittaker.
00:37:14Mr. Whittaker.
00:37:16This is Evan Carlson calling from the university.
00:37:18I'm a student on staff at the campus paper here, and our editor wants to do a preliminary
00:37:21story about the upcoming debate.
00:37:23Would you be able to meet up, sir?
00:37:25Meet?
00:37:25Well, I live about three hours from there.
00:37:27Yes, I know.
00:37:28I was thinking we could meet halfway.
00:37:30Can't we just take care of this over the phone?
00:37:32I know Rachel, sir, and I'm aware of the situation.
00:37:37I'm a Christian, and I'm on your side.
00:37:39I've got some information that may prove helpful to you, but I'd rather talk to you about it
00:37:42in person.
00:37:44Cayman is smart and clever.
00:37:46He'll take what you say, twist it around, question you, corner you.
00:37:49I've seen him debate before, and he is good at it.
00:37:52And I've never debated anyone before in my life.
00:37:54Sounds like a mismatch to me.
00:37:57How many people will come to these events?
00:37:59Normally not many, 25, 30, but there will be more at this one, especially since Cayman's
00:38:04doing it.
00:38:05He'll probably make all of his classes attend as well.
00:38:07Much to Rachel's delight, I'm sure.
00:38:09Plus, the editor is running this story before the debate, which isn't normal.
00:38:13And he is planning to contact the local media.
00:38:16Could get a pretty good audience.
00:38:17Great.
00:38:18More pressure.
00:38:19Look, I've got some material in the car with some good information on science from
00:38:22a biblical perspective.
00:38:23I'll give it to you.
00:38:24Thanks.
00:38:25I appreciate it.
00:38:26You can sit here.
00:38:27You seem pretty serious about this.
00:38:31Maybe you should be the one debating Cayman.
00:38:34God didn't give me the opportunity, sir.
00:38:37He gave it to you.
00:38:39I think what you're doing is great.
00:38:42Rachel sure doesn't.
00:38:43I found out something interesting.
00:38:45Twelve years ago, at the university, there was an incident involving Cayman and another
00:38:49professor on the same subject.
00:38:53Joseph G. Portland.
00:38:54Portland used to teach Cayman's class, except for he taught creation.
00:38:58And Cayman joined the university staff that year, didn't like it, and got him fired.
00:39:02That's Portland's contact info.
00:39:03He lives nearby.
00:39:05Maybe you could give him a call, or even try to go see him.
00:39:08He could offer some good insight.
00:39:09I'll keep this in mind.
00:39:10And now I do have several questions I need to ask you for the article.
00:39:14Sure.
00:39:15I think it's interesting you chose to meet here.
00:39:19I figured it was about halfway.
00:39:21This place is very special to me.
00:39:23What do you mean?
00:39:25Let me show you something.
00:39:26This is about the spot.
00:39:32Rachel was ten years old.
00:39:33We were spending the day here together, and she was over by this river plain.
00:39:37I remember she was looking for stones that she could throw into the river.
00:39:40Suddenly, though, she found a 50-cent piece lying on the ground.
00:39:44But just after she reached down and picked it up, a boy grabbed her hand and took it from her.
00:39:49I saw this from over there and noticed how he taunted her as he walked away and went back towards his father.
00:39:55Rachel, of course, was upset over losing the coin because she'd found it first and came over to complain to me.
00:40:01I then tried to use that incident as an example.
00:40:05I told her it was wrong for the boy to take that coin from her, and the stealing was a sin.
00:40:09But I also pointed out to her how all of us have sinned against God in our own lives.
00:40:15In essence, we've stolen coins from him.
00:40:18And the only one who can forgive us for our sins is Jesus.
00:40:23And Rachel seemed to understand this.
00:40:26We prayed to the Lord together, and I believe that day she became a Christian.
00:40:32That's great.
00:40:35It's hard for me to believe someone is now causing my little girl to drift away from what she's been taught.
00:40:43Let's go to that picnic table, and I'll answer those questions for you.
00:40:48Oh, hey, how'd it go?
00:41:00It went well.
00:41:01Evan's a committed believer and was very helpful.
00:41:03I need to make a quick phone call, and I'll tell you more about it.
00:41:05Okay.
00:41:06Okay.
00:41:06Okay.
00:41:06Okay.
00:41:06Okay.
00:41:06Hello, Professor Portland, this is he.
00:41:10Hi, my name is Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve,
00:41:33I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve, I'm Steve
00:42:03the subject of creation versus evolution,
00:42:05and I was hoping you could help me.
00:42:07I said I'm not interested.
00:42:11Hello, Professor.
00:42:21Tyler, what am I gonna do?
00:42:24You might not have to let him do it.
00:42:25No.
00:42:28Well, look, first of all,
00:42:29nobody goes to those things anyway.
00:42:31You told me everyone went to them when we first met.
00:42:34I wanted you to think that I was into stuff like that.
00:42:37You know, with you studying in the library.
00:42:39And look, you saw how many people were there.
00:42:42I mean, I've been to a couple of them before,
00:42:44and they're lucky that they get 10 people.
00:42:48Listen, Rach, nobody takes those debates seriously.
00:42:52So if I were you, I'd stop worrying about it.
00:42:55But what you do need to start taking seriously
00:42:57is our flag football party coming up weekend after next.
00:43:00and stay in your dorm from now till after the debate.
00:43:03But that's Saturday night.
00:43:04You're with me, okay?
00:43:07Okay?
00:43:08Okay.
00:43:10Good.
00:43:12Now, if it'll make you feel better,
00:43:13call your dad one more time.
00:43:18Rachel?
00:43:19Dad, I'm calling again to ask you
00:43:20to please not do this debate.
00:43:22But, Rachel...
00:43:23You debating Professor Kamen
00:43:24is not gonna solve anything.
00:43:26Rachel, honey, you don't know everything
00:43:27your professor believes.
00:43:28I've been doing a lot of research,
00:43:30reading some of the reports he's published.
00:43:32This guy stands against everything that we believe in.
00:43:35Evan's told me some things about him also.
00:43:37Evan?
00:43:38How do you know Evan?
00:43:39You went and met with my father.
00:43:54Gave him books, talked to him about Kamen.
00:43:56You're encouraging him?
00:43:57Well, hold on.
00:43:58First of all, I had to speak with your father
00:44:00since the editor assigned me to do a story on the debate.
00:44:02And of course I'm encouraging him.
00:44:03This is an opportunity for the truth.
00:44:05My father is no match for Professor Kamen,
00:44:07and you know it.
00:44:08Your father might do better than you think.
00:44:09I don't know how I got myself into these situations.
00:44:12I can answer that one.
00:44:13You let Kamen play with your mind.
00:44:15Professor Kamen is a very intelligent man
00:44:17who makes good points.
00:44:19No.
00:44:20Kamen's a gifted communicator,
00:44:21only makes it seem like he's making good points.
00:44:23Did he do the chicken and the egg thing yet?
00:44:24Yes.
00:44:25And he said the egg, right?
00:44:26And he gave you some line about scientific research
00:44:28and the fossil record?
00:44:29And what if he's correct?
00:44:30Rachel, think about it.
00:44:32Life comes from life.
00:44:34It doesn't come from knowledge.
00:44:35God created the chicken first, just like the Bible said,
00:44:37and then he set it up so that life could reproduce itself.
00:44:40Kamen doesn't believe in God, so he teaches the opposite.
00:44:42Come on, Evan.
00:44:43You're not helping.
00:44:44Just answer me this one question.
00:44:46Did God create this world,
00:44:47or did it come about through evolution like Kamen says?
00:44:49Evan.
00:44:50Just answer the question, please.
00:44:51No.
00:44:52You're not gonna answer that.
00:44:55You just did.
00:44:57No, just forget it.
00:45:00I just don't think I've got a good enough handle on the subject.
00:45:13Steven, you know enough.
00:45:14Just share it.
00:45:15That's all you need to do.
00:45:16I don't know.
00:45:18This outline you've shown me is good, and you won't be alone.
00:45:19A group of us from the church are coming to support you.
00:45:20Thanks.
00:45:21Professor Kamen will probably get all of his students to attend, and I don't think too
00:45:25many of them are going to be rooting for me.
00:45:26I don't think too many of them are going to be rooting for me.
00:45:56Hey.
00:45:57Hey.
00:45:58I thought you were going to Tyler's game.
00:46:13I have too much work to do.
00:46:14I'm going to the library.
00:46:15Maybe I can find a corner to hide in.
00:46:17Rachel, not all the students agree with Professor Kamen.
00:46:20Yeah?
00:46:21Because the only guy around here that I know who doesn't is Evan.
00:46:23I'm just going through a mini crisis, that's all.
00:46:28Dude, just admit that you guessed wrong and move on.
00:46:31Yeah, we won't hold it against you.
00:46:33I didn't guess wrong.
00:46:34I mean, she's interested.
00:46:36It's...
00:46:37I just didn't expect this deal with her dad popping up.
00:46:39You're wasting your time.
00:46:40Plus, she's way too religious.
00:46:42She can't be that religious if she's with Tyler.
00:46:45Hey, look.
00:46:46Our flag football party's next weekend, and that'll be the night I make my move.
00:46:49I'm gonna let you know how religious she is.
00:46:53I don't know why you're wasting your time driving all the way out here.
00:46:57Didn't I say I wasn't interested?
00:46:58Well, sir, I thought if I could explain the situation to you in person...
00:47:01I know the situation.
00:47:03Kamen is brainwashing your daughter's mind like he does all the students who take his classes.
00:47:07I was hoping you could give me some insight that would help me prepare.
00:47:10Why are you debating him?
00:47:12It wasn't my idea.
00:47:13What, he challenged you, you accepted?
00:47:15If I were you, I'd get out of it.
00:47:17I was hoping you could help me.
00:47:18I mean, you know the topic so well.
00:47:19Read a book.
00:47:20A lot of good ones out there.
00:47:21But you know Kamen.
00:47:24I want nothing to do with that man.
00:47:27That was a long time ago.
00:47:30That university was my life.
00:47:32I wasn't gonna teach evolutionary lies from those textbooks.
00:47:36Then one day, because of Kamen, it all gets taken away?
00:47:39Maybe it got taken away because you were making an impact for the Lord.
00:47:42This is a battle we're in.
00:47:43I lost mine.
00:47:44Professor Portland, there are so many people that you could be influencing with your life
00:47:49and the gifts that God has given you.
00:47:51I haven't taught at that university for 12 years.
00:47:54I'm out of the game.
00:47:55We should never stop trying to share the Lord with people.
00:47:57You remember, for God so loved the world.
00:47:59I said I'm out of the game.
00:48:01I'm trying to forget this, not relive it.
00:48:06Would you please leave?
00:48:08But Professor Portland, I asked you to leave.
00:48:14I don't believe the lies either.
00:48:19But it still comes down to a choice we all make.
00:48:23And by the way, a Christian is never out of the game.
00:48:32You got nothing from Portland?
00:48:34Nothing.
00:48:35He still seems bitter about the whole thing.
00:48:37He asked me to leave.
00:48:39Well, Mr. Jameson has contacted some of the local media.
00:48:41Looks like they're gonna pick up on it.
00:48:43Mr. Whitaker?
00:48:48You still there?
00:48:51Yes, I'm here.
00:48:52You have people praying for you, sir.
00:48:55Do you have supporters?
00:48:57It just makes it tough when I know Rachel's not one of them.
00:49:01Thanks, Evan. I'll talk to you later.
00:49:03Okay, bye.
00:49:13Hey, uh, I'll catch up with you later.
00:49:14Uh, excuse me.
00:49:15Your dad's the guy that's gonna debate Cayman, right?
00:49:16Why do you ask?
00:49:17I'm in your bio, class.
00:49:18Why would anyone want to debate Cayman?
00:49:19He doesn't.
00:49:20I don't want him to.
00:49:21Have you ever seen that thing that Cayman does where he shows how we all came from apes?
00:49:22Pardon?
00:49:23How we all came from apes.
00:49:24What is it?
00:49:25How do you know?
00:49:26He stayed after class one day, heard him go through it.
00:49:27He'll make your father look like a complete idiot with that example.
00:49:29Look, I told you I don't want him to do it.
00:49:31Excuse me.
00:49:32Couldn't help it over here.
00:49:33Are you talking about Professor Cayman when he goes through his routine about how we all
00:49:40came from apes?
00:49:41Yeah.
00:49:42Have you seen it?
00:49:43Yeah, I've seen it.
00:49:44I thought it was great.
00:49:45Let me ask you something.
00:49:46Does your mother look like a real kid?
00:49:47I don't want him to do it.
00:49:48Do you?
00:49:49I don't want him to do it.
00:49:50No, I don't want him to do it.
00:49:51I don't want him to do it.
00:49:52I don't want him to do it.
00:49:53I don't want him to do it.
00:49:54I don't want him to.
00:49:55Have you ever seen that thing that Cayman does where he shows how we all came from apes?
00:49:57Pardon?
00:49:58How we all came from apes.
00:49:59Let me ask you something.
00:50:01Does your mother look like an ape?
00:50:03What'd you say?
00:50:04Does your mother look like an ape?
00:50:06Watch it, man.
00:50:08I'll assume that's a no.
00:50:10How about your grandmother?
00:50:11Does she look like an ape?
00:50:12What?
00:50:13Then who are you?
00:50:14I'll take that as another no.
00:50:16So, your mother doesn't look like an ape, and neither does your grandmother.
00:50:19How about your great-grandmother?
00:50:20Do pictures go that far back in your family?
00:50:22Does she look like an ape?
00:50:24What's your deal, man?
00:50:25Cayman says we all come from apes, so which one in your family was the monkey?
00:50:28I got news for you.
00:50:29You can take it all the way back to the very first man and woman, Adam and Eve, and guess
00:50:33what?
00:50:34No one was ever an ape.
00:50:35You know why?
00:50:36Because apes come from apes, and humans come from humans.
00:50:41Now, who's going to make who look like a complete idiot?
00:50:47Whatever.
00:50:48I don't need you to defend me.
00:50:57I wasn't defending you.
00:51:00My picture and everything.
00:51:01Hey, I know a good story when it comes my way.
00:51:05I'm getting some great feedback already.
00:51:06I'd say you and your team put together a very nice article.
00:51:11I'm shooting for a full house on this one.
00:51:16I just hope your opponent shows up.
00:51:17Any reason to think he won't?
00:51:18No.
00:51:19But I've got a feeling that after this debate is done, I wish he'd stayed home.
00:51:20You're too kind.
00:51:21I'll see you Thursday night.
00:51:22Look, it's time for the very first man.
00:51:23I'm here.
00:51:24For anyone who's not leaving me there, will you be here?
00:51:25vel.
00:51:26And me?
00:51:27You're a bad guy, let me see you again.
00:51:28Yes, let me see you again.
00:51:29I'm coming in the next room.
00:51:30I'll let you know.
00:51:31I'll let you know your situation.
00:51:32I won't let you know your situation.
00:51:33No?
00:51:34I won't let you know your situation.
00:51:35Well, I'm here.
00:51:36I won't let you know where we are.
00:51:37I won't let you rest.
00:51:38But I won't let you know your situation.
00:51:39No.
00:51:40Whatever you'll let me know.
00:51:41Okay.
00:51:42The next man.
00:51:43No.
00:51:44I'll let you know your situation.
00:51:45Problem is.
00:51:46The next man.
00:51:47you're too kind I'll see you Thursday night look it's not that hard all you
00:51:52gotta do is memorize the stuff and then after the test you just forget it that's
00:51:56what Tyler and I do so stupid how's this ever gonna help you in life it's not
00:52:01that's why we memorize and then we forget just like I keep telling Tyler
00:52:04just got to forget that Rachel girl but you know him he'll hang in there maybe
00:52:09he really likes him he likes her cuz she's cute that's all I wouldn't let
00:52:13anyone crack eggs over my head I don't care how cute she is you know Tyler and
00:52:16a stupid plan well we'll see what happens at the flag football party this
00:52:20weekend that's when he's supposed to make his move eventually he'll see I was
00:52:23right about her
00:52:37what is so important that you need to talk to me right now can we sit down for a
00:52:42minute come on Evan could just sit down for a minute please what Rachel I'm sorry
00:52:56to bother you but I need to tell you something what you need to do is talk my
00:52:59dad out of doing this debate you should really listen to yourself sometime
00:53:03Cayman sure done a number on you why are you so against Professor Cayman does this
00:53:08sound familiar just show up and get a C what Cayman's class they'll give you a C
00:53:13as your final grade if you just show up without doing any work didn't you ever
00:53:16wonder about that mean no other teacher does that maybe that's why he's the most
00:53:19popular instructor on campus or the one with the biggest agenda what do you mean
00:53:22by that he teaches his evolution lies to get students to doubt their faith in
00:53:26God in the Bible so you're saying I'm not a Christian now you tell me I mean just the
00:53:31other day you wouldn't even admit that God created the world I know God created the
00:53:35world yeah committed to that truth then why are you all of your dad for wanting
00:53:41to defend it
00:53:47he's just never done anything like this before you know why is it that one
00:53:52Christian wants to take a stand for his faith and the next one doesn't why do
00:53:56some Christians have convictions about things and others don't maybe the
00:54:00difference lies and how we first came to the Lord was it by addition or
00:54:05submission what do you mean by that seems to me that a lot of people have
00:54:09just added Jesus to their life that's not it you can't just add Jesus to your life
00:54:13you must submit your life to him it's a big difference so you are saying I'm not a
00:54:19Christian only you can answer that one just leave me alone you can't leave yet yes I
00:54:25can Rachel I came to tell you something I'm not interested Tyler's the one not
00:54:29interested happy you crack those eggs over his head was a setup just overheard
00:54:36two of his buddies talking about the library and that flag football party this
00:54:40weekend that's when he's gonna make his move
00:54:44Rachel Tyler only spends time with you because he thinks you're cute that's it
00:54:50you're making this up it's the truth Rachel that's why I came over here
00:55:00I thought you should know I don't believe you I wouldn't lie to you but Tyler is
00:55:11sorry
00:55:20it just seems to me that a lot of people have just added Jesus to their life
00:55:28but that's not it you can't just add Jesus to your life you must submit your life to him
00:55:50Lord Jesus
00:55:55come on just submit
00:55:58Rachel
00:56:06hi dad
00:56:07are you all right?
00:56:09I'm fine
00:56:10dad
00:56:13first I want to tell you how sorry I am
00:56:16all right that's it a reminder the debate is tonight at the fine arts center and I strongly encourage you
00:56:45all to attend
00:56:46now as for the debate itself I accepted a challenge that was brought before me it
00:56:52is my obligation to this university and to the students I teach to defend what I
00:56:57know to be true I do hope I see you there this evening dismissed
00:57:04professor came in yes Rachel you said that my dad was the one who challenged you but
00:57:12that's not really correct I think that you're the one who challenged him
00:57:27your father wanted to confront me on my views I could tell from the moment I met him I plan to go easy on him and I will
00:57:34was there something else miss Whitaker
00:57:41yes sir
00:57:42well
00:57:43the chicken came first

00:59:07no no I'm not ready for that
00:59:09I'm sorry I should have told you about this much sooner but

00:59:43Luke did you say something?
00:59:46not me
00:59:47well somehow she found out
00:59:48she pulled some religion garbage on me about a minute ago and now we're over
00:59:51okay so what's the big deal?
00:59:52it is a big deal
00:59:53I wasted a lot of time on this girl

00:59:57and you didn't listen to me
01:00:01somehow she found out
01:00:04it got me ahead as I was a stringer from the Baltimore Sun
01:00:07really?
01:00:08so it's basically the same kind of thing I'm asking you to do
01:00:09go out and get the information
01:00:11and bring it back in
01:00:12and that's exactly what kind of work you want
01:00:14alright so now that you have to find
01:00:16what is it that's going to go out?
01:00:18what is it that's going to go out?

01:00:34what is it that's going to go out?
01:00:35what is it that's going to go out?
01:00:36Hello, Pastor.
01:00:46I told you we'd be here,
01:00:47and several others from the church have come out as well.
01:00:51Thank you for coming.
01:00:52Professor Kamen.
01:00:53Hey, Phil, that little paper of yours
01:00:56has more of a circulation than I would have guessed.
01:00:58Yes, it's a good crowd.
01:01:00I see the visiting team has some followers here tonight.
01:01:03Hey, we're ready to start, so if you'll take your place,
01:01:04I'll go and inform your opponent.
01:01:06Got it.
01:01:06Got it.
01:01:12Steven Whitaker?
01:01:13Yes.
01:01:13Phil Jameson, Journalism.
01:01:14We spoke on the phone.
01:01:15Thanks for coming.
01:01:16My wife, Kimberly.
01:01:17It's a pleasure.
01:01:18Hi.
01:01:18We're ready to begin,
01:01:19so if you take your place up on stage,
01:01:20we'll get started.
01:01:21Yeah, sure.
01:01:23Okay.
01:01:25People are praying for you.
01:01:26Hello, hello, hello.
01:01:38I'm Phil Jameson.
01:01:39I am the professor of journalism here at the university.
01:01:41I'd like to welcome everyone to our debate tonight,
01:01:44which deals with the subject of evolution versus creationism.
01:01:47What a great crowd.
01:01:49I'm a little nervous up here myself.
01:01:51I can only imagine what our two combatants must be feeling.
01:01:55It's my best line, guys.
01:01:56It's all I've got.
01:01:57Let me introduce to you our two participants now.
01:02:01On my left, speaking on behalf of creationism,
01:02:04he has a daughter who attends the university here.
01:02:06Please give a warm welcome to Mr. Stephen Whitaker.
01:02:08And on my right, a man who needs no introduction.
01:02:18He is arguing on behalf of evolution.
01:02:20He is from our biology department.
01:02:22Please give a warm welcome to Professor Marcus Kamen.
01:02:31Okay.
01:02:32This is how this is going to work.
01:02:34Both men are going to give brief opening statements,
01:02:37and then they'll be able to question each other's comments.
01:02:39And after that, we're going to open up this forum to you,
01:02:41the audience, for your questions.
01:02:43Okay?
01:02:44Mr. Whitaker, you are first.
01:02:45You may begin with your opening statement.
01:02:54Well, let me say first that I've never done anything like this before.
01:03:00I do believe, though, that the topic at hand is an important one.
01:03:04And in fact, as I prepared for this debate,
01:03:06it became clearer to me that it's more important than I ever realized.
01:03:10It seems that when the question is posed as to how life came to exist on our planet,
01:03:14the theory of evolution has become the dominant scientific view that is taught in our schools
01:03:19and universities across this great land of ours.
01:03:22Frankly, this amazes me.
01:03:24The first problem I immediately see is that evolution is not scientific in the truest sense
01:03:29of the word, since science deals with what can be observed and reproduced through experimentation.
01:03:34Scientific claims must be accepted only after they have been verified.
01:03:39The origin of life can neither be observed nor reproduced in any laboratory,
01:03:44even though they try to show us this with their illustrations in the textbooks I studied.
01:03:47By definition, then, true naturalistic science can furnish no knowledge
01:03:52about where any life form, including the human race, came from or how it got here.
01:03:56If God did not create the universe, then who or what did?
01:04:00A Big Bang that produced a cosmic explosion?
01:04:03What caused it to go bang?
01:04:05A chemical reaction?
01:04:08What organized the original chemicals or molecules or gases
01:04:12or whatever evolutionists say happened to form life here on Earth?
01:04:15And how did it create so much detail and beauty and design and intelligence?
01:04:23Nothing times something does not equal everything.
01:04:26And yet, as I see it, that is the true definition of an evolutionary view of the universe
01:04:33and what millions and millions of people are placing their trust in
01:04:36as to how life on this Earth began.
01:04:38Again, the evolutionary worldview is clearly as much a religion as any theistic worldview.
01:04:45Not only is the teaching of evolution an attack against those well-known first words of the Bible,
01:04:51in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth,
01:04:54but it is an undermining assault against the authority of God,
01:04:57which really becomes the main issue here.
01:05:00At least when we're starting with God as the first cause,
01:05:03it seems that everything else that happens makes sense.
01:05:08That's it, I guess, for my opening statement.
01:05:18Thank you, Mr. Whitaker.
01:05:19Professor Kamen, your opening statement, please.
01:05:22Well, first I'd like to say, well done, Mr. Whitaker.
01:05:24Very well done.
01:05:25You have debated before.
01:05:27You put forth some very compelling questions and ideas.
01:05:32In fact, I think if we were to pass a hat right now,
01:05:35you might bring in a nice donation or two.
01:05:37I just had a few problems with what you said,
01:05:42especially at the end there about God being the first cause.
01:05:46You can't prove any of it.
01:05:52Now, I know you're going to say that it all has to be taken on faith,
01:05:56but that's always the out on your side.
01:05:59That's always the explanation.
01:06:01We know what faith is.
01:06:02It's wishful thinking.
01:06:04And in case you haven't noticed,
01:06:06things don't always turn out so good at the end.
01:06:09The good guy doesn't always win.
01:06:10Wishful thinking doesn't bring home the bacon,
01:06:13and it cannot ever be proven.
01:06:15But when it comes to the evolutionary answer,
01:06:20laboratory experimentation,
01:06:21and intensive scientific analysis
01:06:25have proven conclusively
01:06:27that living organisms evolved from non-living chemicals.
01:06:31And what makes that so important
01:06:33is that it means that intelligence wasn't needed
01:06:37for life to form in the beginning.
01:06:39We are all descendants of a common ancestor,
01:06:43just as you and your cousins
01:06:44are descendants of a common grandmother.
01:06:47And through a process of descent with modification,
01:06:50that common ancestor gave rise
01:06:52to the fantastic diversity
01:06:54that we see in the fossil record
01:06:56and living all around us today.
01:06:58That is proof, Mr. Whitaker.
01:07:00That is scientific proof.
01:07:04Evolution means that we're all distant cousins.
01:07:07Man and the oak tree,
01:07:10the hummingbird and the whale.
01:07:12Life is about change,
01:07:13and the sequence of fossils in the strata
01:07:16documents that change.
01:07:18And the clear progression of simpler life forms
01:07:21evolving into more complex life forms
01:07:24is accepted by every clear-thinking scientific mind
01:07:27as irrefutable truth.
01:07:33Radiometric dating of the Earth
01:07:36shows it to be 4.5 billion years old,
01:07:41give or take.
01:07:42And the rocks and fossils that we see all around us
01:07:45are millions and millions of years old.
01:07:49That's a lot of time for change, Mr. Whitaker.
01:07:52That is time for evolution.
01:07:57Thank you, Professor Kamen.
01:08:09You may both now question each other's opening statements.
01:08:12Mr. Whitaker?
01:08:13I guess my first question for you, Professor Kamen,
01:08:16and the most important one I can think of,
01:08:18is how do you explain away God?
01:08:21Explain away?
01:08:22Yes. What about God?
01:08:25Simply put, man created God.
01:08:29Man created God?
01:08:30I'm 100% with Freud on this one, sir.
01:08:33That man created God?
01:08:35Dr. Sigmund Freud brilliantly observed many years ago
01:08:39that man is riddled with deep-seated fears,
01:08:42living as he does in a world of disease and famine and disaster,
01:08:47with very little control over his circumstance.
01:08:50So, yes, he created God.
01:08:54He postulated a being who could deliver him,
01:08:58kind of like a supernatural skyhook
01:09:00that could pull him out of trouble.
01:09:03Man also believed that he was getting a raw deal
01:09:06from just about everybody,
01:09:08so he wanted a cosmic umpire
01:09:11to blow the big whistle
01:09:13and halt the game
01:09:14until everybody got what they deserved.
01:09:18But most of all, man fears death and extinction,
01:09:22and so he needed a heavenly father
01:09:25who could take him at the end
01:09:28to some heavenly place
01:09:30that he decided to call heaven,
01:09:32all because he couldn't face the fact
01:09:36that eventually he was going to vanish
01:09:38from existence.
01:09:40So what's the purpose of life, Professor Kamen?
01:09:43We live.
01:09:44And then we die and go back into the earth.
01:09:46That's it. There's no afterlife.
01:09:48Face the music, Mr. Whitaker.
01:09:51Elvis is dead.
01:09:52He's left the building.
01:09:56In this life,
01:09:58we get a chance to make a mark.
01:09:59If we do that,
01:10:01maybe the next generation will remember us,
01:10:04maybe we'll even teach them something,
01:10:06but there is no afterlife.
01:10:08I believe there's much more than that.
01:10:10Yeah, you believe, Mr. Whitaker,
01:10:13but do you have any proof of an afterlife?
01:10:15Proof?
01:10:16Proof. Scientific proof.
01:10:18Any kind of proof.
01:10:19The Bible says we believe by faith.
01:10:22Faith in what?
01:10:23In a God we can't see
01:10:24and a book we can't rely on?
01:10:26I'd like a little scientific proof.
01:10:28I can't offer scientific proof.
01:10:30Well, the words in this book
01:10:32that you hold so sacred,
01:10:33how do you even know they're true?
01:10:35The Bible is very trustworthy.
01:10:37I didn't ask if it was trustworthy.
01:10:39I asked if it was true.
01:10:40The Bible is the word of God.
01:10:41Wasn't the Bible written by men?
01:10:43Yes, it was.
01:10:44Then how does that make it the word of God?
01:10:46Look, I can't explain it.
01:10:47So, you're betting your afterlife
01:10:49on a book you can't explain
01:10:50about a God you can't prove.
01:10:52I am sticking with Freud on this one, Mr. Whitaker.
01:10:55I am definitely sticking with Freud.
01:10:57Freud was wrong.
01:11:05Freud was wrong.
01:11:07Excuse me, sir.
01:11:08There'll be a time later
01:11:09for the audience to ask questions.
01:11:10It's okay.
01:11:12He's my friend and he's with me.
01:11:13He's with me.
01:11:15I decided to get back in the game.
01:11:31Mind if I take over from here?
01:11:35Mr. Jameson, if it would be all right,
01:11:37I would like for my friend here to continue for me.
01:11:39Well, that's not how we normally do things.
01:11:44Is that acceptable to you, Professor Kamen?
01:11:49Proceed.
01:11:49You never cease to amaze me, Marcus.
01:12:02Of course you're going to agree
01:12:03with Freud's views on God
01:12:05since evolution leaves no room
01:12:07for a supernatural creator.
01:12:08And since there is no God,
01:12:14then there are no rules
01:12:16and no one to whom we must give an account.
01:12:21But man didn't create God.
01:12:24Freud got that wrong.
01:12:27In fact, I would propose to you
01:12:28the very opposite.
01:12:29I believe that if man had his way,
01:12:33he would rather God did not exist
01:12:35and eliminate God.
01:12:40Haven't you noticed?
01:12:41Whenever anything goes bad in someone's life
01:12:44or there is some tragic event that occurs,
01:12:47people, religious and non-religious,
01:12:49almost inevitably blame God.
01:12:52How could God allow this?
01:12:53How could God allow that?
01:12:57No, if man had his way,
01:12:58he would rather eliminate God,
01:13:00not create him.
01:13:03He even comes up with theology that says,
01:13:05God is dead and has left the building.
01:13:12Sorry to be so rude to your guests.
01:13:14My name is Joseph G. Portland,
01:13:18Professor Joseph Portland.
01:13:21You see, 12 years ago,
01:13:22I was the one that taught biology
01:13:24here at the university.
01:13:25Only I taught from the perspective
01:13:27that God is our creator.
01:13:28And I refused to teach what I felt
01:13:31were evolutionary lies from the textbook.
01:13:35When Professor came and joined our staff,
01:13:37he got me fired over this very issue.
01:13:41I despised you, Kamin.
01:13:43I blamed you for ruining my career.
01:13:46Sadly for me,
01:13:47I let you take me out of the game.
01:13:49You're talking about how those laboratory experiments
01:13:54have proven that living organisms evolved
01:13:57from non-living chemicals
01:13:59as proof of a naturalistic origin of life.
01:14:02This is just not so.
01:14:05Those experiments only showed
01:14:07that certain organic compounds
01:14:09could be formed from inorganic compounds.
01:14:12And intelligence was and is still needed
01:14:15since someone had to conduct
01:14:18and design those experiments.
01:14:19Certainly that's far from creating life in the laboratory.
01:14:24And you know that the amount of information
01:14:26contained in the nucleus of a living cell
01:14:28shows that it could not have evolved
01:14:30from non-living chemicals
01:14:31and that it must have been created.
01:14:35You know, the fossil record
01:14:36does not show the continuous development
01:14:38of one kind of creature into another
01:14:40and that no one has ever seen
01:14:43one kind of plant or animal
01:14:46changing into another of a different kind.
01:14:49Dogs change into different kinds of dogs,
01:14:51but they are always dogs.
01:14:54And we can breed dogs to form new varieties,
01:14:57but they never turn into cats or kangaroos
01:14:59because they remain in the boundaries
01:15:02that God created for them in the beginning.
01:15:05And you know that there are layers of assumptions
01:15:07used to calculate the age of the earth
01:15:09using radiometric dating.
01:15:10So why are you misleading our audience?
01:15:13The earth is not billions of years old.
01:15:16The earth is not millions of years old,
01:15:17not even close.
01:15:19You see, the professor and I can go on and on and on
01:15:22and bore you with our technical definitions.
01:15:25Whatever he says, I have a rebuttal
01:15:27and back and forth.
01:15:28You know, we can go outside right now
01:15:31and the stars can come down
01:15:32and form the words in the sky,
01:15:34God created the world
01:15:35and the evolutionists would blame it
01:15:38on those clever Baptists.
01:15:42To me, the most troubling aspect about this issue
01:15:47is that in our society today,
01:15:49evolution is being taught in our schools
01:15:51and universities across this land
01:15:53as a matter of fact.
01:15:57But no one can scientifically prove evolution
01:16:01just as no one can scientifically prove
01:16:03that God created the world
01:16:05since none of us were present to witness it.
01:16:08Both these teachings
01:16:10then become a matter of faith.
01:16:14The evolutionist has nothing but vast periods of time,
01:16:20random chance events,
01:16:22and the ever-changing ideas of man
01:16:23to base his worldview upon,
01:16:25while the one who holds to creation
01:16:27has his beliefs firmly rooted
01:16:29in the truths contained in the Bible
01:16:32and a personal God
01:16:34who created everything.
01:16:35I love this university.
01:16:42I loved teaching my students.
01:16:45But...
01:16:47one thing got in my way.
01:16:50Led to my downfall.
01:16:53It wasn't until I was visited by a new friend
01:16:56that I came to realize it.
01:16:57And it was not you, Marcus.
01:17:00I blamed you.
01:17:03But it was not you.
01:17:04It was me
01:17:06and my pride.
01:17:09I was the one who was at fault
01:17:1112 years ago.
01:17:12Not in what I was teaching,
01:17:14but in how I went about it.
01:17:16I should have taught my students
01:17:17to look at both sides of the evidence,
01:17:19realizing that everyone individually
01:17:22has to make their own choice.
01:17:24Either you are going to
01:17:26look at life through men's ideas
01:17:29or God's word.
01:17:31So, if evolution,
01:17:35follow where that leads.
01:17:37If God,
01:17:38then serve the Lord.
01:17:42We can't prove anything here tonight.
01:17:44We can only present theories.
01:17:47You can chance your eternity
01:17:49on the views of Freud and Darwin
01:17:51if you want.
01:17:52I'm putting my trust
01:17:54in Jesus Christ
01:17:56who died on the cross
01:17:59for my sins,
01:18:00was buried
01:18:03and rose again
01:18:05on the third day.
01:18:06I know some of you
01:18:11will call that stupidity.
01:18:14I am calling it humility.
01:18:18And I will trust
01:18:20and I will follow Christ
01:18:22and wait on the hope
01:18:24of eternal life
01:18:25that he offers.
01:18:26may you find that same hope.
01:18:33Marcus,
01:18:52I'm sorry
01:18:54for my
01:18:56attitude
01:18:58and
01:19:00I held bitterness
01:19:03towards you
01:19:04for a long time.
01:19:06I hope you can find it
01:19:07in your heart
01:19:08to forgive me.
01:19:26Professor Kamin,
01:19:26is there anything
01:19:29you'd like to add?
01:19:34Okay,
01:19:35that concludes
01:19:36our evening,
01:19:37everyone.
01:19:37Our next debate
01:19:38will be November 14th
01:19:40presented by the
01:19:40Business Department
01:19:41for a discussion
01:19:41about government spending.
01:19:44We hope to see you then.
01:19:45Thanks for coming.
01:19:51Since this is
01:19:52from Harry
01:19:52to be home,
01:19:53yes,
01:19:54thank you.
01:19:54Evan,
01:20:06thank you for all your help.
01:20:07I couldn't have done it without you.
01:20:24You're welcome.
01:20:25It was a pleasure meeting you.
01:20:26Same here.
01:20:27Keep in touch.
01:20:28Yes, sir.
01:20:32Your dad did good?
01:20:33Great job at the debate
01:20:53last night, Professor.
01:20:55Yeah,
01:20:55it was, uh,
01:20:57interesting.
01:20:58and thank you,
01:21:00for about that job.
01:21:00It was fun.
01:21:01Good to see you.
01:21:01By the way,
01:21:02let it happen.
01:21:02I'm good to see you.
01:21:03On the way,
01:21:04it makes yourså
01:21:13one day.
01:21:14Oh,
01:21:17I mean,
01:21:18it was great.
01:21:19I don't think
01:21:19you're talking
01:21:20about it.
01:21:20No,
01:21:21God in the way.
01:21:22I don't think
01:21:22I don't think
01:21:24Hey buddy. Interested in making a hundred bucks?
01:21:49$100?
01:21:51Yeah, just let me crack three eggs over your head. It's yours.
01:21:55Yeah?
01:21:56Yeah.
01:21:57Show me the hundred first.
01:22:00Can I talk to you for a minute?
01:22:02Yeah, sure.
01:22:08First, I wanted to thank you for helping my dad.
01:22:12And second, I wanted to apologize for how I acted.
01:22:16I'm sorry I gave you so much opposition.
01:22:19I lost perspective, but I'm back on track with the Lord.
01:22:23God used you in my life and I wanted to thank you.
01:22:27You're welcome.
01:22:31That's it. See ya.
01:22:34See ya.
01:22:47Rachel!
01:22:51What are you doing Saturday afternoon?
01:22:53You stood before creation
01:23:05Eternity in your hand
01:23:11You spoke the earth into motion
01:23:17My soul now to stand
01:23:26Okay, this spot. Right here.
01:23:30What about it?
01:23:32You ever been here before?
01:23:33Yeah, I told you lots of times for family reunions.
01:23:39Would you look at that?
01:23:40On the ground.
01:23:42It's a 50 cent piece.
01:23:47Do you remember that?
01:23:48What?
01:23:49What I just did.
01:23:50Took the 50 cent piece from your hand.
01:23:53Think Rachel.
01:23:55Think back to when you were 10 years old.
01:23:56You saw a 50 cent piece on the ground and some little boy came up and grabbed it from you when you found it.
01:24:00I do remember.
01:24:02How did you know? Did my dad tell you?
01:24:04Yeah, your father told me.
01:24:06But, that little boy?
01:24:09It was me.
01:24:11What?
01:24:13Eight years ago you and I met here.
01:24:14At this very spot.
01:24:16We were throwing stones into the river when you saw a 50 cent piece on the ground.
01:24:18I came and snatched it out of your hand when you picked it up.
01:24:20Just stole it from you.
01:24:22My dad saw the whole thing and he used that incident to show me how I needed Christ.
01:24:27And so on that day, this selfish little boy became a Christian.
01:24:31You see Rachel, God used you in my life.
01:24:35I wanted to say thank you.
01:24:40You're welcome.
01:24:44You know that little restaurant up past the bridge?
01:24:46I'd be happy to train you to launch.
01:24:54Alright.
01:24:55Yeah.
01:24:56I think I'd like that.
01:25:01So what could I say?
01:25:07And what could I do?
01:25:09To you?
01:25:10But all for this heart, oh God.
01:25:20Completely to you.
01:25:24So I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:25:37In awe of the one who gave it all.
01:25:42I'll stand my soul, Lord.
01:25:43I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:25:47In awe of the one who gave it all.
01:25:52I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:25:56In awe of the one who gave it all.
01:25:57I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:25:59In awe of the one who gave it all.
01:26:03I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:26:04In awe of the one who gave it all.
01:26:06I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:26:08I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:26:12In awe of the one who gave it all.
01:26:17I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned.
01:26:29In awe of the one who gave it all.
01:26:33Oh, I'll stand my soul, Lord, to you surrendered.
01:26:39All I am is yours.
01:26:46All I am is yours.
01:26:52All I am is yours.
01:27:03All I am is yours.
01:27:33All I am is yours.
