00:44The letters were to spur the police on.

00:46He's taunting the police.

00:48He's taunting all of New York.

00:58He's going to serve a life sentence in jail.

01:04As a prison reporter, I wanted to understand how a human mind spirals out of control.

01:21It's just built up.

01:22It's like a volcano erupting.

01:24That was me.

01:24He could always fool people with his face and his smile.

01:33I was out every night like clockwork committing my crimes.

01:36And I get up and go to work like nothing ever happened.

01:39It's been nearly 50 years since this happened.

01:44A new development absolutely blew me away.

01:48Those blue eyes are shining.

01:5047 years later, it's still right here for all of us.
