00:00This is Brandon from Boston. Hey, Brandon, what's up?
00:07Hey, what's going on, guys? So, you know, this is for everybody, but I want to talk to Wiggy on this, you know, about the Celtics.
00:13You know, as far as the point guard issue goes, and everybody's talking about Damian Leonard, I think that's a scratch.
00:18I don't think you should go after him, but I was thinking about Russell Westbrook to run the show.
00:22You know, he feeds off energy. We're an energy guy. He's still a good, productive player. Advocates 13 points, four rebounds, six assists, 44% from the field goal.
00:34So a guy like that, you pair him and run the show with Anthony Simons. You have White, Brown, and then you try to go out there and get Zach Collins from the Bulls, and you have your big guy right there.
00:46So, you know, I want to know your thoughts on bringing Russ, man. He needs a ring, so he's down to a two-year contract, that's your minimum.
00:53That'd be like seven mil. I'll make that deal.
00:56Right. The thing about Russ, when I, because Russ was just in Denver this year with the Nuggets, and he played a solid role for them.
01:03But there are a couple of times where he got in situations where he had some corner threes, where, you know, the league is a drive-and-dish league now.
01:11And for me, I know he's coming off injury. Dame Lillard is a much better shooter than Russell Westbrook.
01:20And I would rather... Go ahead.
01:23Oh, real quick. See, I wouldn't be bringing in Russell to shoot threes.
01:28I mean, he's still good at attacking the basket and playmaking, and he's good defensively as well.
01:33Right.
01:34So, occasionally, I'll probably put him in a situation and shoot a threes, but you have other guys around him where you don't even have to focus on him shooting threes.
01:42I think he'll be a good piece for the Souths. He feeds off energy, and that's what we need. I think we need a guy like Russell, honestly.
01:49He's definitely explosive, and he is somebody that can get to the rim and do those type of things.
01:54But I guess the question is, is how are you going to build your team?
01:56Are you going to build it where, you know, Tatum and Brown do that well?
02:01Pete Pritch is a guy that can do that well.
02:03So, do you bring in Russell, you know, that's really what he does?
02:07Or do you bring in Dame Lillard, who can be your point guard, but also can be in a situation where, when you have Tatum and Brown getting to the hole, could be a guy that can knock down...
02:18I mean, if you listen to the insiders, like, it sounds like the Dame Lillard here thing is almost a done deal.
02:27Yeah, that's what they're saying, but I guess maybe what's taking so long?
02:31Well, but you're not that happy about that, right?
02:35No, I like the Dame Lillard situation.
02:37I'm all on board because I look at this year as a, not really a throwaway year, but a year where...
02:46I think they look at it as somewhat of a throwaway year, like a get-right year on the money side of things and the apron side of things, and then get ready for Tatum to come back.
02:56Well, it'll be interesting to say, it will be interesting to see tomorrow because Mago will be in court because you'll be out, and Mago believes that they're going to flip Anthony Simon and trade him before the season.
03:09So, if they do that, then that leads me to believe, okay, maybe they're looking at it as more of a throwaway year.
03:17But if you keep him, I think you still have a solid enough team to obviously make the playoffs, and maybe you can maybe win a round.
03:27And if you add one more piece, I mean, I think that there is...
03:32I don't necessarily think that Brad Stevens is ready to punt at this moment.
03:36Well, he did say when we played the audio, and I think this was part of the Chisholm audio,
03:43he did say their biggest thing is when they get Tatum back.
03:49You know what I mean?
03:50He was talking about the money situation, but so maybe he might look at it like, well, am I really...
03:57If I'm adding a piece, that piece is more for when Tatum comes back, you know?
04:04You are being referred to as fraudulent by a texter on the Subaru of New England text line.
04:10What's that?
04:10Uh, the text says, stop smoking, brah.
04:15The league is a drive and dish league now.
04:19That's what it is.
04:20I think that's somebody who is bothered by the relentless three-point attempts that are made in the NBA.
04:25But that's what the league is.
04:26And by the Boston Celtics.
04:27Right.
04:28Guys drive and dish to kick out three-pointers.
04:31I mean, to shoot three-pointers.
04:33That's what the league is.
04:35Russell Westbrook is the guy who's going to drive, get to the rim, and try to finish.
04:39But when you look at it, I mean, how many times have we seen, whether it's, you know, Jalen Brown, Jason Tatum, or any player, drive to the hole, have an opportunity to make a layup, but yet kick it to a corner.
04:50Or get fouled and then throw it out to somebody who misses a three.
04:54Right.
04:54So, if that's what the league is, and Tatum's driving to the hole, or Jalen's driving to the hole, I would much rather have Dame Lillard spotting up in a corner than Russell Westbrook.
05:06This is David from New Hampshire.
05:09David, what's up?
05:11Hello.
05:12Good morning, everybody.
05:13What's going on?
05:14So, I just had to chime in about what you guys were talking about with retired numbers.
05:21I cannot disagree with Shime anymore than all that subject.
05:26That's not true.
05:26I don't need to.
05:27How many people on the text line?
05:28There's nobody on the text line.
05:29No.
05:30There is.
05:30No, nobody.
05:32I feel like some teams, it's ridiculous.
05:35If you look at the Yankees' retirement numbers, what, one through ten are gone.
05:38So, they do have some funny numbers out there for their pitchers, 77, 78.
05:42But the flip side of that coin, when you get a legend like Larry Bird, who plays 20 years for the Celtics,
05:48can you really imagine somebody else wearing number 33?
05:51Or, I mean, I feel like there should be some criteria.
05:54Like, a guy who plays his whole career with one team, like Chipper Jones, that number should be retired.
06:00He's a legend.
06:01Derek Jeter, same thing.
06:02So, I mean, I just feel like it's a special part of teams' histories and historical franchises.
06:09That's why they make Team Hall of Fames, though.
06:11Like, you put them in the Team Hall of Fame.
06:12But, see, I think Shime agrees if they're a legend.
06:16No, no, no.
06:16You have to be beyond special.
06:18You have to either be, like, a cut above literally everybody else.
06:22You have to have the goatest of all goats to be retired number or have some sort of major historical impact.
06:28But in your mind, then that's only Brady.
06:31Because if you're not putting Lawrence Taylor in that category, if he's not the goat of goats beyond special,
06:37who else are you putting in there other than Brady?
06:40Gretzky.
06:41Okay.
06:43He played for so many teams that it's tough.
06:45Because not every team he played for is going to retire.
06:47Okay, but you wouldn't put Sidney Crosby.
06:49No.
06:50I wouldn't retire numbers.
06:51I'm not retiring numbers for guys like that.
06:54No.
06:54Shime, you wouldn't.
06:55He's doing, this is a bit.
06:57It has to be.
06:57You enjoy being a hater.
06:59That's what it is.
07:00That's where they make Team Hall of Fame.
07:01So the Pittsburgh Penguins, when Sidney Crosby retired.
07:05Give him his own room at the Team Hall of Fame.
07:07So you don't think Sidney Crosby is in the NHL compared to what Brady was in the NFL?
07:16No.
07:16Tom Brady is way above everybody else.
07:19Wow.
07:20It's like Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, that's it.
07:23End of list.
07:24This is like when you didn't have Joe Montana in your top 25 quarterbacks or whatever the
07:28number was.
07:29It was top, I think it was top five.
07:31But yeah, you can keep making it.
07:32Yeah, but at least you can, all right, you can, maybe somebody could, there'll be a couple
07:36people that will jump on your side to make the argument about Montana.
07:41But there's no person alive, dead, or alien life form who's going to say that Lawrence
07:49Taylor and Sidney Crosby.
07:52I did it.
07:52I said it.
07:53I am a living life form.
07:54Right.
07:54But you're not going to find anybody else that agrees with you.
07:58That's fine.
07:58I don't care if anybody agrees with me.
08:01I'm not trying to make a point to have people agree with me.
08:03I'm making a point because it's what I believe.
08:06I mean, I say some dopish things and some moronic things.
08:09But this here is the, this should be retired for the dumbest and dopiest thing ever said.
08:18Think what you want.
08:19Speaking of Pennsylvania hockey, Gavin McKenna is going to be paid $700,000 to play for Penn
08:29State.
08:30Wow.
08:31That's nothing.
08:32I know.
08:33College basketball.
08:35But it's, yeah, it's crazy when you think, because you were saying he's going to be the
08:38Sidney Crosby of the future.
08:39He's like a generational, that word is sometimes overused, but he's a generational, generational
08:45player.
08:46That sucks.
08:47Size, speed, skill.
08:50Like, Conor Bedard's cousin.
08:52Right.
08:52Like, and so.
08:55Just look at the disparity because look at the generational player in college basketball
08:59and Cooper Flagg what he made versus, yeah, a football versus the generational player.
09:05Here is the great Maria from Watertown.
09:07Hey, Maria.
09:09Hey, good morning, everyone.
09:10Hope the summer's going well.
09:12Yes.
09:13Shine, I love you.
09:14I enjoy listening to you.
09:16But with all due respect, your take right now, you are a dope.
09:20That's fine.
09:21You believe what you want.
09:22I think, I think it's silly to retire numbers.
09:24Sidney Crosby altered, single-handedly altered the direction of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise.
09:34That's great.
09:34Give him his own room at the Hall of Fame.
09:37No, no, no.
09:38He gets his number in the rafters.
09:40I do agree that in some instances, some of the criteria has been a little bit watered down
09:47and there are too many numbers that go up.
09:50You've got the same issue potentially happening at some point with the Boston Bruins
09:55when it comes down to conversations about, you know, maybe David Krejci and Tuca Rask.
10:01No-brainer with Chara and Bergeron.
10:04Those numbers should go up in the rafters.
10:07But honestly, Shine, you are very legitimate with your sports takes most often, very often.
10:15But in this instance, in this instance, my friend, you are totally off the rails.
10:21So that's how I wanted to share.
10:22Patrice Bergeron and Zidane O'Chara shouldn't have their numbers retired.
10:25Like, it's that simple.
10:25Like, it's like, there is, I think there's, we need to put out the bat signal for two people.
10:33TC and Al from Everett.
10:36Because we know how much Al loves the Giants and Bill Parcells, and we know how much TC loves the Penguins.
10:43So we can listen to them just completely eviscerate, shine on the-
10:49Another good word.
10:50Another good word for me.
10:50You like that word?
10:51Good job, Wix.
10:52I mean, come on, shine.
10:53It should be reserved for very special people.
10:56That's it.
10:57How much more special do you get from LT and Sidney Crosby?
11:02I mean, like, I feel like there's no other level to go.
11:05I mean, there is.
11:06There's much, there's higher levels.
11:08There have been better players in the NFL.
11:10You can't name.
11:11That's why I say-
11:11Or in hockey.
11:12So, okay.
11:13Name me a player in the NFL or in hockey that deserves their number retired from their team more than Crosby and Larson.
11:23I literally have.
11:24Tom Brady.
11:24Other than Brady.
11:26Jerry Rice.
11:29Okay.
11:30Okay.
11:31But he's not-
11:32So now I've named you two.
11:33You asked for what I've given you two.
11:34Jerry Rice-
11:35Name a defensive player.
11:36Jerry Rice and Lawrence Taylor are on the same level.
11:40I disagree.
11:40Okay, go ahead.
11:41I think Jerry Rice is on a different platform.
11:46Man.
11:47I, I, listen.
11:49I, I thought I listened-
11:51It's fine.
11:51Hey, man.
11:52Like I said, believe what you want.
11:53That's fine.
11:54I, I have my opinion.
11:56I'm clearly wrong because teams do it all across the country and that's fine.
11:59I just think it should be small.
12:01He's-
12:02Should be reserved.
12:02He's the best to ever play his position.
12:05Arguably, yeah.
12:06He might be the best defense, defensive player.
12:09Defensive player in the league.
12:10In the league ever.
12:11Right.
12:12Some people would throw out Reggie White.
12:14No.
12:15I would think that you would get-
12:16Some people would.
12:17You, you, but it, the, the majority would go LT over Reggie White.
12:22And I think Reggie White was unbelievable.
12:24But there are people that believe LT is not only the greatest defensive player, but some
12:31people argue he's the greatest football player.
12:35Okay.
12:35Yeah.
12:35You can argue that on your own.
12:37But you, you're like, yeah, he's not in that world.
12:40He's not even on Jerry Rice's level.
