Have the vibes changed?
Transcript
00:00When, how do we, where do we book, can we book World Series flights yet, Wiggy?
00:06I think you can, but...
00:07Okay, we're not sure of the destination.
00:09We don't know who we're going to get in the World Series.
00:12I am, are you back in?
00:15Well, I guess you were never gone because of the bag of merch,
00:19giant bag of merch that was given to you.
00:20I'm back in.
00:21You're back in?
00:22Yes, Brian Baio did that for me yesterday.
00:24I understand it's the Rockies, but at the same time,
00:26just feels like, I'm going to say it, the vibes are back.
00:30Okay, it's a vibe thing.
00:31It's a vibe thing for me.
00:32It's a vibe thing.
00:33Yes.
00:34It's a vibe thing.
00:35I just think that, you know, their bats are waking up.
00:38Their pitching has been, you know, relatively solid when we talk about Baio and Giolito
00:42and obviously Garrett Crochet, but their bats are waking up.
00:47Trevor Story.
00:48Trevor Story.
00:49Looks good.
00:50Thank God we didn't follow the advice of some and kick them to the curb.
00:56DFAM or whatever the solution was.
00:58Roman Anthony looks good.
01:00I mean, you know.
01:01Darren Duran.
01:02Yep.
01:03Shimes boy, Sedan Raffaella.
01:06I mean, it's, you know, this team is, they're getting things going,
01:09and I understand it's the Rockies, but you proved that you could beat the Yankees,
01:13and you proved that you could beat Tampa.
01:15And you know what?
01:15But I don't even want to hear people say, oh, it's only the Rockies.
01:18And I know I just did that, but there were so many times last season
01:21where they played down against bad teams.
01:24It's good that they're crushing bad teams.
01:27That's what you want to see.
01:29I mean, if you win 10-2, that is a good win regardless of the team that you're against.
01:35And for so long, the Red Sox have played up to talent and played down to talent.
01:40The fact that they are beating teams they're supposed to beat is a good thing.
01:43This is Alan from Nashville first up this morning.
01:47Hello, Alan.
01:49Hey, Greg.
01:51This is my Mia Culpa call.
01:53I called about a month ago and said that I've given up on the Red Sox
01:56and I'll never talk about them again, watch them,
01:59and I'm moving on to preseason NFL.
02:01And I'm in.
02:02I'm back in, baby.
02:03I'm a hypocrite, whatever you want to call me.
02:08Yeah.
02:08Answer the question, Alan.
02:11Answer the question of the texter on the Subaru of New England text line who says,
02:16how can you be back in when they are just beating garbage teams?
02:22So answer that question.
02:23Well, they lose to garbage teams.
02:25They beat the best team in baseball, the Yankees.
02:28And, you know, I have no idea what this team is, but I know I'm back in.
02:31I don't care.
02:32You can call me whatever you want.
02:33You can – I don't have a Subaru of text line at my house,
02:37so I can't get the messages, but I'm in.
02:40I'm in, baby.
02:41Okay.
02:41All right.
02:42Bring me back in.
02:42All right.
02:42Alan is – put him on the side of those who are back in.
02:47So thank you, Alan.
02:48Yeah, I don't – right.
02:49Like, baseball is so much different when you go, like, the good teams, the bad teams.
02:56You know, like, Colorado hasn't been – they stink.
02:58They're playing awful.
03:00But last night their starting pitcher, you know, cruises through six innings,
03:04you know, and it's a close game, and then the bleeder by Trevor Story,
03:08you know, turns it into a one-run game.
03:10So, you know, there's an opportunity that a team, even though they're not very good,
03:16could beat you just based on the performance of maybe the pitcher that night
03:19or if the bats are going.
03:21And then you open it up, obviously, in the bottom of the sixth
03:24and the bottom of the seventh.
03:26But I don't really, like – I look at it like if you can get good outings
03:31by your pitcher and your bats hitting the baseball,
03:35you're going to have a chance to win every series that you play in,
03:39regardless of who you're playing against.
03:41Yeah.
03:41But if you don't do that, it don't matter who you're playing,
03:43there's a good chance you could lose.
03:45No, and this next series, you got a pretty good test.
03:49So you have a chance sooner than later to see what this team might actually be
03:54at this point.
03:54Well, yeah, and then you can leapfrog one of the teams that is holding a wild card
03:59spot right now in the Tampa Bay Rays and, you know, put yourself in a great position
04:04come All-Star break.
04:05Yeah.
04:05Because after the All-Star break, I think that you have some pretty good that you're facing
04:09the Dodgers and I think there's another series that you have against a good team.
04:13So you got to, at the beginning, make sure you're able to do some things.
04:17So come trade that line like Sam Kennedy said.
04:19If this team is a team that's above 500 and is legitimately in the race, they're going to do
04:26stuff.
04:26Okay.
04:27Well, a lot to get to on this morning's show.
04:30Sean, is it going to be another hot one?
04:32I know Curtis isn't here.
04:34Curtis is on some sort of a seven-week sabbatical or something like that in Hawaii.
04:40Struggling, obviously, to foot the bill for the vacation.
04:44But in his stead, if you could, are we getting to 90 again or what's the situation out there?
04:49No, not quite today, Greg.
04:51The high is only about 75 today.
04:53So it's going to be much cooler, cloudier, but there's also a chance of thunderstorms
04:58throughout the course of the day.
04:59Okay, excellent.
05:01On the show this morning, leads in about 15 minutes or so.
05:07And I assume we'll get one from Jackson in Curtis's absence.
05:11So leads coming up.
05:13Then they set it at 720.
05:16And that is a quick back and forth on what they said yesterday in sports.
05:22And we will certainly discuss what Will Clark said about being ghosted by Raphael Devers
05:31and a giant back and forth going on currently on whether you're Team Devers or you are Team Will Clark.
05:42I mean, Devers has turned into Bane.
05:44Like, he is the enemy.
05:46Well, I don't know that he's the enemy, but I think it's fair.
05:49People are jumping on.
05:51And, like, it's cool to hate him.
05:52Let the game begin.
05:54Like, why wouldn't you jump on?
05:55Because I just think it's interesting timing over and over again that there's more and more coming out about the guy.
06:01It's like, oh, one person started.
06:03Ortiz, sorry.
06:04I saw Curtis on social media last night all over this and about how it's a smear campaign by the Boston Red Sox.
06:12And I'm sorry.
06:15Doesn't Will Clark do stuff for the San Francisco Giants?
06:18Yeah, well, he's talking about how the news came from Will Fleming.
06:21The only reason the news came from Will Fleming is because he was asked a question about it by Hart and Fitzy.
06:27Yeah.
06:27I mean, I take Will Clark at his word.
06:32I mean, we're going to hear what he says about it.
06:34And so he's sort of, I mean, he's not fully throwing Devers under the bus.
06:41But, I mean, it's clear that Devers blew him off.
06:45Not once, not twice.
06:46He's not throwing him under.
06:47I mean, okay, so he's throwing him under a pedicab.
06:50Well, no, he gives him, he, have you heard the idea?
06:53Yeah.
06:53Yeah.
06:53He gives him an excuse.
06:55I mean, he, he, he helps.
06:57I think he tries to help Raphael Devers out a little bit.
07:00I think.
07:00I don't know.
07:01I think with Devers, it's all self-inflicted.
07:04Because even with the Will Fleming stuff, he says something.
07:07And then you have Will Clark that comes out and just basically goes, okay.
07:13And then you go, oh, so what Will Fleming said was true.
07:16Right.
07:16You know, so I don't think that it's any smear campaign or anything like that.
07:20I just think that you're, it's all self-inflicted, especially based on what Devers said when he
07:26got to San Francisco, how he'd be willing to do anything.
07:29Yeah.
07:30And, you know, and it seems like just maybe that might not necessarily be the case.
07:35Does he sound like the kind of guy you, Jermaine Wiggins, would want to have as a teammate?
07:42I mean, he, he doesn't sound like that type of guy.
07:45But his production isn't at the level where you could go, all right, we can live with
07:50this attitude.
07:51Like if you're out there and you're tearing the cover off the ball or you're like an elite
07:56performer, you know, like whatever.
07:58That's who he is.
07:59He's a, he's a DB.
08:01He's a douche, but he's talented.
08:03Sean kind of alluded to it yesterday, or maybe even said it yesterday.
08:07Sedan Rafaela is outperforming Rafael Devers since his departure.
08:12Yeah.
08:12By a margin, by a large margin.
08:14So, um, I mean, I don't know.
08:18I, I, I just think that people reveal themselves to be what they are and that in the long run,
08:25as I said at the time, I think it's, he's the kind of guy that you did not want to build
08:30your entire franchise around for the next eight to 10 years.
08:34Well, they just look like a different team, like even in the dugout after somebody gets
08:39a hit, there's just this like, I don't know.
08:42They just look like they got the guy out that maybe not that they don't like them, but maybe
08:48was just, there was a weird period after he left though, that they were not like that.
08:53It wasn't, but it wasn't long though.
08:55No, but I, I, I don't want there to be recency bias where we're saying, you know, Devers hit
08:59the road and all of a sudden everybody was kumbaya.
09:02That wasn't the case.
09:03Right.
09:03But they weren't like walking around, but they, but they suck when he was here.
09:08Like, but they were actually performing pretty well, right?
09:10They had one, they had one stretch where they performed well.
09:14And that was right before he left.
09:16Yeah.
09:16Right.
09:16But they, prior to that stretch, they suck.
09:20Okay.
09:20So they had figured it out with him.
09:22No.
09:22So that's why it's confusing to me because you can't say right now, Oh, it's like the vibes
09:26are different.
09:27They are different, but there, there was a period after he left where the vibes were
09:31still bad.
09:31So I don't, I don't think you should put it on Devers that he was the vibe killer.
09:35But after, after he left, they won a series against, I believe it was Seattle in Seattle.
09:42Right.
09:42And then they lost to the Giants and they hit a little bit of that, like five or six game
09:47losing streak.
09:48My point is, is that they just, they're, they're like their, their energy and their facial expressions,
09:57their body language and the way it just looks different.
10:00I agree.
10:01I just don't think it's Devers.
10:02Meaning they look like they're, like they've been freed from whatever was bothering them
10:08when he was around.
10:09Right.
10:09More than we love a more.
10:11We liked that guy.
10:12He was a great player for our team, but there was just all this, there was this black cloud
10:16over him.
10:17And now that he's gone, it's no longer there.
10:20Yeah.
10:21All right.
10:21Well, we will have the opportunity to get into the Will Clark, Raphael Devers stuff during
10:29They Said It.
10:30We are going to hear from Brad Stevens who spoke yesterday during They Said It and more
10:36coming up at 7.20 on this morning's show.
10:40The news with Courtney coming up at 7.45 and that includes Florida, not like the rest of
10:46us and of course a celebration of a 57th birthday in the anything goes state is not complete
10:54without meth and the theft of a public transportation vehicle, I would, I would guess.
11:01So.
11:02So.
11:02So.
11:02So.
11:02So.
11:02So.
11:02So.
11:02So.
