On the latest Poolie Podcast episode, Robbie Stelling and Rich Mennear discuss Mani Dieseruvwe and Anthony Mancini after their moves from Hartlepool United to Rochdale were confirmed.
Transcript
00:00Obviously, Manny D left last week.
00:04Arrival of Danny Johnson was announced
00:05and then obviously Manny's exit,
00:08which, fair to say, I think was probably widely expected.
00:12He's head off to Rochdale with Mancini.
00:15What did you make of those two heading to Rochdale?
00:18And just in terms of Joe Gray as well,
00:21I suppose he'd be the big Pulse player
00:23or former Pulse player because he'd be out of contract at the minute,
00:25but Pulse fans would like to see a resolution on him quickly.
00:28Do you think he'll stay at the club
00:30or do you think he'll follow Manny D in leaving this summer?
00:34I'd be very surprised if he stayed.
00:36I think, Richard, I think that he will feel as though
00:41his time has come potentially to explore an opportunity elsewhere.
00:45That would clearly be a shame.
00:46He probably didn't have his best season last year,
00:49had an injury, had to have surgery,
00:51only scored six goals,
00:53three of which I think came in the first three matches.
00:55So he was probably a little bit disappointed
00:57that he wasn't more prolific in front of goal,
01:01but nonetheless is a real asset to Pulse.
01:03Still young, but has got really good experience for someone of his age.
01:07So it will be a real shame if and when he leaves.
01:10But Pulse do look to have recruited pretty well so far.
01:13Jermaine Francis, obviously we didn't see him on Tuesday night,
01:17but looks to be pretty impressive
01:19and gives Pulse another option out wide.
01:23Didn't really feature for Barnett at all last season.
01:25I think just five substitute appearances,
01:27but did really well during the loan spell.
01:30Braintree was really highly rated.
01:32They're scored against Pulse last season
01:34and I think caught the eye with his performance as well.
01:37So Pulse will feel as though in terms of incomings,
01:39I think they're doing pretty well so far.
01:41Clearly there's plenty of work still to be done.
01:43It was obviously a blow to lose Manny Disirouet, wasn't it?
01:46I don't think it was a massive surprise.
01:49It started to feel inevitable.
01:51Rochdale are a club obviously with big ambitions.
01:54They had a good season last season,
01:55finished fourth and then were beaten in the playoff semifinals.
01:59Unlike Jimmy McNulty, he's done a really good job there.
02:01I think he's a promising, forward-thinking young manager.
02:06Obviously had a successful playing career as well,
02:09a large part of which was spent at Rochdale.
02:11So you would maybe back them to disrupt a couple of the sides
02:15who are inevitably going to be tipped for the title,
02:17like York and Karlan.
02:20And I think most Pulse fans will certainly,
02:22I think all Pulse fans really, Rich,
02:23will wish Manny Disirouet really well.
02:26He clearly loved playing for Pulse.
02:29He was obviously an impressive goal scorer.
02:32I think he scored 43 goals across two seasons,
02:3525 in his first season and 18 last term,
02:39but was more than a goal scorer as well.
02:41I think he was really dynamic for someone of his size.
02:44Could hold the ball up, could link play, could win flick-ons.
02:47A capable footballer, really threatening in both boxes,
02:51aerially, and I think Pulse will certainly miss that.
02:54And of course, he'll link up now with Anthony Mancini,
02:56who was released by Pulse at the end of last season.
02:59I was a little bit disappointed by that decision,
03:01but I can understand it at the same time.
03:03He obviously just couldn't quite get himself fit.
03:06There were obviously some physical hurdles to overcome.
03:09He had that terrible hamstring injury just after he'd first signed
03:12when he made such an impressive start.
03:14And then he had a couple of recurrences of that in the second half
03:18of the 2023-24 campaign and struggled a bit in the second half of last season
03:23as well, had various groin problems.
03:25Perhaps there's a little bit of a psychological barrier to overcome as well.
03:29I wonder, Rich, it seems as though he's fit one week and then he drops out.
03:34But I think if you can get him fit and firing and believing in himself,
03:37enjoying his football, then he's certainly talented enough
03:41to play higher than the National League.
