00:00Coach came up to you and said, Stephen, you don't get a flag, you get a cape.
00:04And it was legitimately a whole cape. It was awesome.
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:08And today we're counting down our picks for the funniest and most memeable moments
00:12from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
00:23Number 16. Kendall Ellis benefits from getting stuck in a port-a-potty.
00:27I think we all know what happened to me in the semifinal in Oregon before my race.
00:31And Charmin thankfully stepped in to get rid of all those bathroom worries
00:35that I can focus on being the best Kendall and Ackley I know how to be.
00:39Yeah, look, it doesn't sound great, but let us explain.
00:42The American sprinter found herself in a literal nightmare scenario at the U.S.
00:46track and field trials, locked in a port-a-potty for over 10 minutes until help came.
00:50Speaking on the nerve-wracking incident, which nearly saw her Olympic dreams dashed,
00:54Ellis said that, quote,
00:55I don't like small spaces. Being stuck in one is actually one of my greatest fears.
01:00Elevators, port-a-potties, water slides. So yeah, literal nightmare.
01:05Just ahead of the 4x400 meter relay at Paris 2024, though,
01:09Ellis announced a hilariously fitting new sponsor, Charmin.
01:13Hey, whatever works, Kendall.
01:14And so it's nice that I have Charmin supporting me backside to trackside,
01:19making sure that all aspects are covered in the bathroom, outside of the bathroom,
01:24so that I can go out and perform and keep on winning.
01:28Number 15, Gabriel Medina catches the ultimate wave.
01:31And it's Gabriel Medina coming through an absolute monster and flies out victoriously.
01:37A beautiful...
01:38Remember the old expression about something being too good to be true?
01:42Thankfully this time, we were able to have our cake and eat it too.
01:45Surfer Gabriel Medina was captured by Agence France-Presse photographer Jérôme Brouillette
01:50as he received the highest single-wave score at Paris 2024.
01:549.9 out of 10.
01:56Gabriel Medina handles it.
01:58Like the beast that he's known to be.
02:02In Brazil.
02:03For two sometimes as monstro.
02:06Brouillette's image depicts Medina, who appears to literally be walking on air.
02:10Far from a fabrication, the photo speaks to not only Medina's obviously considerable amounts of talent,
02:16but also Brouillette's Olympic-worthy photography skills,
02:19commenting on the circumstances.
02:21Brouillette said,
02:22It was not hard to take the picture.
02:23It was more about anticipating the moment,
02:26and where Gabriel will kick off the wave.
02:28Every single surfer and person in the water right now is enjoying that performance.
02:33Look at the coaching staff for Brazil.
02:35Number 14, Zhou Yachin discovers the taste of victory.
02:39Chinese artistic gymnast Zhou Yachin won silver at Paris 2024.
02:43But while her and her fellow athletes' performances were predictably remarkable,
02:47it was what she did after she won that set the internet ablaze.
02:51Italian athletes Alice D'Amato and Manila Esposito,
02:54who won gold and bronze respectively,
02:56engaged in the time-honored tradition of biting down on their medals.
03:00The act itself no longer serves a practical purpose,
03:03but stems from a method of testing whether or not gold is real.
03:06The Chinese athlete's reaction,
03:08as well as her gentle attempt at imitating D'Amato and Esposito,
03:11served as a sweet viral moment that demonstrated considerable Olympic spirit.
03:15Number 13, Hamish Kerr dives under the bar.
03:20While the high jump is in itself a thrilling display of human athleticism,
03:24it's not necessarily a relatable Olympic sport, if such a thing exists.
03:28Thankfully, New Zealander Hamish Kerr made a point of literally lowering the bar for the rest of us.
03:33In a hilariously meme-worthy moment occurring just prior to his gold medal win,
03:37the Olympian bailed on one of his attempts and dove under the bar, landing straight on the mat.
03:42Kerr had the opportunity to throw in the towel and share gold with American jumper Shelby McEwen,
03:47but both declined and opted to close the event out, which ultimately saw Kerr winning.
03:53Number 12, Simone Biles Reacts.
03:56That's the entry.
03:57Not only is she the most decorated gymnast ever,
04:00she's also America's sweetheart.
04:02How can you not love Simone Biles?
04:04While she had no shortage of meme-able moments at Paris 2024,
04:08one blink-and-you'll-miss-it bit in particular stood out among internet commentators.
04:12And not just to Snoop Dogg.
04:14More on that later.
04:15While stretching ahead of a competition,
04:17Biles appeared to be engaged in casual conversation
04:20before seamlessly whipping her head around and staring straight down the barrel of the camera.
04:24Would-be memers compared the look to a stern principal or librarian.
04:28Does anyone else feel like they're in trouble?
04:30Number 11, Raygun captures our hearts.
04:33All the way from Australia, Oceania, give it up to Raygun!
04:42Breakdancing's first Olympic appearance wasn't without its share of interesting viral moments,
04:46as the general public discovered what the sport is all about,
04:49especially at such a high level.
04:51Australian academic Rachel Gunn, better known as Raygunn,
04:55certainly appreciated and had a love for the sport,
04:57even writing her PhD thesis on breaking.
05:00Although Gunn was selected to participate at Paris 2024,
05:04she received no points and was eliminated from the competition following the round robin.
05:08When Gunn's performance was derided and mocked on social media,
05:12she responded by saying,
05:13I was always the underdog and wanted to make my mark in a different way.
05:16Do your thing, Raygun!
05:18I get to research breaking.
05:19I get to talk to people about breaking.
05:21I get to read papers on breaking.
05:23You know, my whole life is about breaking.
05:25So I feel really fortunate that I can go that deep into my sport, into my dance.
05:32Number 10, Bob the Capcatcher and his colorful Speedos.
05:35The heroes of the Olympics are not always the athletes who leave decorated with multiple medals.
05:41But we shouldn't forget about the people behind the scenes,
05:43making sure that everything goes smoothly here in Paris.
05:46Sometimes it's those who are on our screens for a moment,
05:49but in our hearts for much longer.
05:52Case in point, Bob the Capcatcher.
05:54The nickname bestowed upon the man who retrieved Team USA's Emma Weber swim cap
05:59from the bottom of the pool,
06:00following the women's 100-meter breaststroke preliminary race.
06:04More proof that not all heroes wear capes, some do wear Speedos.
06:08As soon as he appeared with his scintillating swimwear,
06:11the audience, both at the event and at home, were enamored.
06:15We don't know if his name is actually Bob,
06:18but we do know that he and his Speedo have brought us utter joy.
06:21So here's my question.
06:23If you know that's your job, that you may have to jump in at a moment's notice,
06:25that's the Speedo you pick out.
06:28Number 9, Anthony Amerazzi's Bad Timing Bulge.
06:31We hesitate to find amusement in an athlete's dreams of Olympic glory being dashed,
06:37but we cite this incident out of love, not mockery.
06:40Pole-vaulter Anthony Amerazzi's Olympic dreams hit an unexpected NSFW hurdle.
06:47While competing in a qualifying event,
06:49French pole-vaulter Anthony Amerazzi's nether regions hit the bar he was going over,
06:54knocking it down and him out of the competition.
06:56While being well-endowed is often considered a blessing,
07:00in Amerazzi's case, it was something of a curse.
07:04He was understandably crushed by the outcome,
07:06later reacting to his elimination in a statement posted by the French Athletics Federation saying,
07:12It's a big disappointment. I'm a bit gutted.
07:15It's the first time I've started a competition without any stress.
07:18However, many have expressed their support and admiration for Amerazzi.
07:23With any luck, he'll be clearing bars again with style in no time.
07:27The 2024 Paris Games mark Anthony's first time making it to the Olympics,
07:33and it's sure to be a competition he'll remember for a very long time.
07:38Number 8, Marie Antoinette Goes Metal.
07:41Even if you have no interest in sports,
07:44the Olympics opening ceremony is always a must-see spectacle.
07:47My friends, I'm watching the Olympics last night,
07:50and I go and do something, and I come back,
07:52and he's like, Oh, you missed the heavy metal performance.
07:54I was like, The heavy metal performance?
07:56And I didn't think anything up.
07:57This year was no exception,
07:59taking us down the Seine and showcasing numerous wondrous French landmarks
08:03from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower,
08:05as well as the country's long-standing reputation for spectacular pageantry.
08:10But the most memorable moment occurred during the French Revolution-inspired third sequence.
08:14Entitled Liberté, it featured the beheaded queen Marie Antoinette,
08:19played by soprano Marina Viotti,
08:21singing the opening lines of Ah, ça ira,
08:24before being joined by French metal band Gojira.
08:27Everyone was, like, super enthusiastic and crazy about it,
08:30so I thought, like, OK, we did it!
08:34If you're someone who loves French history and heavy metal in equal measure,
08:38this was the opening ceremony for you.
08:41Nothing comes to mind that compares to this.
08:43That was so unbelievably awesome.
08:48Number 7. Kayak Cross Calamity
08:51The Olympics have been around a very long time,
08:54but that doesn't mean they're afraid of trying new, exciting events.
08:58For example, the introduction of kayak cross,
09:01a sport that has to be seen to be believed.
09:03Imagine being dropped off a 20-foot ramp while you're sitting in a kayak,
09:08then racing through raging rapids with three competitors,
09:12all allowed to push and shove you with their paddles.
09:14It starts with competitors being dropped in the rapid waters from 15 feet high
09:18and only gets more exciting from there.
09:21Everyone drops off at the same time
09:22and then battles each other down the course to get to the bottom first.
09:25With all sorts of obstacles in the water,
09:27it's the kind of event that can trip up even the most coordinated.
09:30And it caused a splash on social media,
09:34with some comparing it to Mario Kart with boats.
09:37Speaking of,
09:38any chance Mario Kart will be an event at the 2028 games?
09:47Number 6. Ilona Marr, TikTok Star
09:51American rugby player Ilona Marr has had quite a time at this year's Olympics,
09:55helping her Rugby Sevens team earn bronze medals,
09:59meeting legends like Jason Kelsey, Snoop Dogg, and Tom Brady,
10:02and putting body shamers in their place.
10:05So, yeah, I do have a BMI of 30.
10:09I am considered overweight.
10:11But alas, I'm going to the Olympics, and you're not.
10:14Her TikTok account is also just full of numerous hilarious videos.
10:18Hey everyone, we are back again in the Olympic Village,
10:21testing out the cardboard beds.
10:22Woo!
10:23From showing shenanigans inside the Olympic Village housing units,
10:28to joking about a meet-cute in the dining hall,
10:30to indulging in a massive croissant as a light snack,
10:34Marr proved herself to be an inspiration not only as an athlete,
10:37but also as a human being.
10:39Oh, treat.
10:41Something got me going.
10:43Number 5. Henrik Christensen's Muffin Love
10:46Do you know the Muffin Man?
10:49The Muffin Man?
10:50The Muffin Man!
10:51No, not the nursery rhyme character.
10:53We're talking about Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christensen.
10:56The Scandinavian athlete's adoration for the chocolate muffins
10:59served at the Olympic Village's dining hall
11:01made him a TikTok star,
11:03and earned him a delicious nickname.
11:05Henrik is winning hearts around the globe
11:07with his funny and relatable content throughout the games,
11:10giving fans a peek at his ongoing love for the yummy treats.
11:13According to others who have tried these baked goods,
11:16they really are as good as he claims.
11:18And though we believe him,
11:20we also wish we could try them for ourselves.
11:23Christensen isn't the only athlete to go viral for their food love this year.
11:27Italian gymnast Giorgia Villa has also made waves with her epic cheese photos.
11:31Photos from a 2022 sponsorship shoot show the gymnast doing the Parma splits
11:37and other Munster moves with giant blocks of cheese.
11:41I approve this pop star.
11:43You're really grating on me.
11:44I knew it. I was waiting for some more.
11:46Number 4. Katie Ledecky Fan Reaction
11:48American swimmer Katie Ledecky made history at this year's games,
11:53becoming the most decorated female swimmer,
11:55as well as the most decorated American woman in Olympic history.
11:59What does it feel like to hear that stat,
12:02to hear that kind of your claim in history,
12:07your space in history?
12:09I don't think it's sunken yet.
12:10And watching her in action is an utter thrill.
12:13But you know what's even more exciting?
12:15Getting noticed by her.
12:17Katie walks past her,
12:18and then kind of glances in her direction,
12:20see what happens.
12:21That's what happened to 8-year-old Madden Maddie Lowry,
12:24who was in attendance when Ledecky won gold
12:27in the 1500-meter freestyle final.
12:29After her victory, Ledecky waved at her young fan,
12:33who reacted with utter glee,
12:35even almost fainting.
12:37And the joy didn't stop there,
12:38as Lowry was later surprised by Ledecky on a video call.
12:41Hey, Madden!
12:44Hi!
12:45We cannot wait for when the two of them
12:47finally get to meet in person.
12:50Number 3.
12:51Steven Nedarazic,
12:52Pummelhorse Superman.
12:54It's a bird!
12:55It's a plane!
12:56It's an amazing athlete!
12:58American artistic gymnast Steven Nedarazic
13:01is a pommelhorse specialist
13:02who became a star at this year's games.
13:05What's the best word to describe the last week for you?
13:08Unforgettable.
13:09And key to that is his glasses,
13:11which he took off prior to his bronze medal winning performance.
13:15Naturally, comparisons were drawn between Pummelhorse guy
13:19and a certain superhero and his journalist alter ego.
13:22Cue the meme machine.
13:24There is a striking resemblance to Clark Kent.
13:27We don't know if Nedarazic has the ability to fly or use x-ray vision.
13:31But we do know that he became a hero to us and countless others
13:35thanks to his charisma and pommelhorse prowess.
13:38My coach came up to me and said,
13:40Steven, you don't get a flag.
13:42You get a cape.
13:42And it was legitimately a whole cape.
13:45It was awesome.
13:45Number 2.
13:46Yusuf Dikech,
13:48The Casual Sharpshooter.
13:50During the 10-meter air pistol mix team event,
13:52most of the competitors had the kind of visible protective gear you would expect.
13:56During the event,
13:57it is standard practice for competitors to wear the allowed eyewear
14:01and take advantage of any special equipment that is permitted.
14:04That is, except for one.
14:0751-year-old Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikech
14:09took the internet by storm
14:11with his decidedly laid-back approach to target shooting.
14:14Instead of bulky ear protection and a visor,
14:17Dikech went with small earplugs and everyday eyeglasses.
14:21What's more,
14:22he even had his other hand in his pocket,
14:23as if he was playing a carnival game
14:25rather than competing on the global stage
14:27with other target experts.
14:28It doesn't seem to have hindered him too much,
14:39as he brought home a silver medal for Turkey.
14:42But if you are an aspiring sport shooter,
14:45remember, safety first.
14:47When I saw how he was shooting,
14:49I thought in my head,
14:50that's so Turkish.
14:53Okay, the no ear protection,
14:55that's so Turkish.

15:10and switch on notifications.
15:11If there's any undisputed non-athlete star
15:20of this year's Olympics,
15:22it's Snoop Dogg.
15:23There are big matches going on everywhere.
15:25And the big Snoop Dogg is here.
15:26The iconic artist served as NBC's ambassador of happiness,
15:30and he more than lived up to his title.
15:33We could probably fill out a whole list
15:34with great Snoop moments,
15:36from holding the torch,
15:37to swimming with Michael Phelps,
15:38to looking the part while watching dressage
15:41with his BFF, Martha Stewart.
15:43Have you ever ridden a horse?
15:44No, I'm scared.
15:45But if we can only single out one moment,
15:48it would have to be his reaction
15:49to gymnastics great Simone Biles'
15:51incredible qualifying performance.
15:53It's a look that says he cannot believe his eyes,
15:56which, to be fair, neither could we.
15:59We also can't forget about his adorable dance party
16:01with Biles and her teammate, Jordan Schiles.
16:04Anybody have any more fun than Snoop?
16:06What Paris Olympics moment do you think is très drôle?
