Italy's Bergamo airport was temporarily closed on July 8 after a man died on a runway during take-off preparations for a flight. The man was sucked into the engine of the plane.

00:00Italy's Bergamo Airport was closed for about one-and-a-half hours on Tuesday following a
00:07dramatic incident that saw a man being sucked into an aircraft engine. The airport operator
00:12Saccbo said during the incident at 10.35 a.m., the man, who was neither a passenger nor an
00:19employee of companies operating at the airport, entered the aircraft apron and reached the taxiway.
00:25They said the man got to the stationary plane, which was preparing to take off, despite being
00:30pursued and stopped by the police. The man succumbed to his injuries. Reports said that the victim had
00:37unlawfully driven a car into the restricted area before abandoning the vehicle and running onto the
00:43tarmac toward the aircraft. This passenger said the flight involved had been cancelled and added
00:49that the incident had disrupted his vacation plans.
00:55Airline company Volatea said the victim was not affiliated with the company. They said all
01:00the 154 passengers and six crew members on board Flight V 73511 from Bergamo to Asturias in Spain
01:08were safe, and a new flight was scheduled for 3.55 p.m. Reports said police are investigating the
01:15incident as voluntary act or suicide.
