00:00A false image shows Inter Milan supporting Palestine.
00:05An image has been going around online allegedly showing Italian football team Inter Milan
00:11waving the Palestinian flag in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
00:15The picture shows children walking past the squad,
00:18giving the players on the field a high five while brandishing the flag before a recent match.
00:23It's been shared with captions like
00:25Inter Milan shows solidarity with Palestine before their game
00:28and others saying free Palestine.
00:31One of the posts has been liked almost 200,000 times at the time of recording,
00:35but ultimately the image and its captions are misleading because the picture has been cropped.
00:40A reverse image search leads us to the original, posted on Getty Images,
00:44which dates back to 23rd September 2009,
00:48meaning it was taken well over a decade before the attacks
00:51which sparked the Israel-Hamas war on 7th October 2023,
00:55but still during the wider Israel-Palestine conflict.
00:59We can see that the photo has been cropped.
01:01The original image shows both Israeli and Palestinian children from an inter-camp
01:06waving their respective flags and giving high fives to players
01:09before a Serie A match against Napoli.
01:12A further search reveals that this scene was part of an inter-campus event
01:15where children from inter-camps all over the world spent a week in Italy,
01:20culminating in a lap of honour by each delegation before the Inter-Napoli match.
01:23The photo resurfaced again in 2015,
01:26attached to an article reporting on a proposal by former FIFA president Sepp Blatter
01:31to host a peace match between Israel and Palestine.
01:34The match ultimately did not take place.
01:37The reverse image search also shows us that this isn't the first time
01:40that the cropped image has been shared in this misleading way.
01:43It appears to show up every few months since the 7th October attacks.
