Tragedy as man dies in house fire

Reporter Alastair Ulke is at the scene as police and the  fire service begin their investigations.

00:00Good morning Sheffield, it's Alex from the Sheffield Star and you're joining me from the entrance to Southcroft Walk off Abbeydale Road

00:06where this morning we're sad to say that a person has died following a house fire overnight at around 4 o'clock in the morning.

00:12Southcroft Walk is a very private, very small walk of flats in the area just behind me

00:17and around this corner emergency services are working at the scene.

00:20I've seen at least two firefighters and a police officer here at the scene this morning.

00:24We've been told by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue this morning that one person has died

00:28and I've spoken to neighbours saying that at this flat that we're centred on here a man lived by himself

00:33but we get to confirm that is the case.

00:35I've spoken to neighbours this morning though, they're rather grief-stricken about what happened.

00:39It was an overnight fire at maybe 4 o'clock in the morning, maybe not a destructive one that might put holes in the roof of the flat

00:45but they are working at the scene now and it seems to be a very sad scene this morning.

00:49Neighbours seem grief-stricken and we're trying to get a bit more of the information about what happened here today

00:54but a very sad scene in what is a very private drive here off of Abbeydale Road
