00:00During the past few years, this alliance became stronger.
00:06On defence and security, the Lancaster House treaties showed that we were willing to cooperate
00:11on the most sensitive subjects regarding our sovereignty and our deterrence.
00:16When our two countries signed them, some clever people found a way to derive savings
00:20of resources from them, and others even dubbed them the Entente Regale.
00:25Yet, they have successfully provided structure for defence cooperation between our two countries
00:32for the past 15 years.
00:35At this bilateral summit, we will enter a new stage that will scale up this cooperation.
00:42And our two countries, the only European nuclear weapon states, the leading armed forces of
00:46the continent, together accounting for 40% of European military budgets, vow to fully
00:52shoulders the responsibility when it comes to European security.
00:58And we are faced with new threats, with aggressive nuclear powers, with sometimes hesitating alliances,
01:05and the return of major conflict on our continent.
01:09This is why in today's our summit is so important and the announcement we prepared so historical.
01:16The capabilities identified 15 years ago at Lancaster House must be increased dramatically
01:22in proportion to the threat.
01:25Our industrial cooperation must also move to the next level.
01:28And our relation to Europe must change, even in the core of sovereignty.
01:34There is an expectation in Europe that, faced with revisionist neighbours, our two countries
01:40have a special responsibility for the security of the continent.
01:45And it is time to articulate it.
01:49And to paraphrase Pete's famous phrase, to make sure that not only our two countries will
01:54save themselves by their own exertions, but also that we will save Europe by our example
02:01and our solidarity.
