00:27You know, I love the playfulness of Chris Reeve's Superman.
00:30I love what Zack did with flying.
00:33I loved Smallville and the sort of humanity of that show
00:37and the relationships in it.
00:39And so I took from all those things, but really it's the comic books.
00:43The all-star Superman and Superman for all seasons
00:45that influenced the movie more than anything else.
00:48He obviously teams up with Terrific in this film,
00:51so I've already kind of chosen, I think.
00:54But, of course, I want to see World's Finest.
00:56I want to see Batman and Superman together.
00:58That was a comic book I grew up with as well.
01:00When I started this process and we were,
01:04script was done and we were going to start casting,
01:06I said to Peter Safran, I said,
01:08if we can't, I'm afraid we're not going to find Superman.
01:11I'm afraid we're not going to find the right actor
01:12because they have so many things they need to do well or right
01:16for them to work as Superman.
01:18And I said, I'm not going to make the movie
01:19if we don't find Superman.
01:20And I was incredibly lucky
01:22because the second audition I saw was David Quincewell.
01:26He had the acting chops that I was looking for,
01:28the comedic chops that I was looking for.
01:30He was able to deliver the fast-paced dialogue
01:32in the way that I imagined it.
01:34And as it turned out,
01:35he also ended up having wonderful chemistry with Rachel.
01:38And he is incredibly athletic,
01:41meaning I could strap him up from all these wires
01:43and hang him and dangle him.
01:45and he wouldn't, you know,
01:46be able to last for longer than three minutes,
01:49unlike most actors.
01:50So he was born to play Superman.
01:52It's great seeing him come to life doing it.
01:55I think the world needs Superman now more than ever.
01:57I think that the fact that people
02:00have been so excited about this movie
02:02shows you that people want Superman.
02:05They want someone who is a person in power,
02:08who is looking out for those in need,
02:10who is willing to do the right thing no matter what,
02:12who has integrity,
02:13and who is kind in Superman's all those things.
02:17And I think it's absolutely,
02:19it's essential that we have characters like this out there,
02:23especially because so many characters are not like this.
02:26He has got more troubles ahead, you know, Superman.
02:30But I think that he's the right guy to be there.
