00:00On this week's episode of Dog Makeover,
00:09So that's where you actually get all the problems with their skin, so that's why we have to
00:13shoot it down.
00:14A young and heavily matted Bolognese dog finally receives the makeover she truly deserves.
00:20Where are you going? To the camera?
00:24Someone's got a camera sign.
00:25Every dog deserves to feel seen.
00:33Get ready for transformations like you've never seen before on Dog Makeover,
00:38where rescue, shelter, and homeless dogs get a second chance to shine.
00:43Each episode features a pup in need of a transformation.
00:47With expert groomers from Hollywood Grooming on hand, we help these dogs look and feel their best.
00:53Grooming isn't just cosmetic.
00:55It improves health, boosts confidence, and increases the chance of adoption.
01:00Let's see what a little care can do.
01:02Hey girl, it's okay girl.
01:30You can step out.
01:32My name is Ray Richard.
01:34I am a dog groomer.
01:36I've been grooming dogs for about a year and a half now.
01:39And I'm going to be honest, it's a very blessing thing to do.
01:43Hi.
01:45Hey.
01:46I came from a whole different work environment.
01:50I used to drive trucks for a living for FedEx.
01:53And it was a very depressing work environment.
02:01And I felt like, you know, God gave me this as a gift.
02:07It really changed me, you know, mentally.
02:11I'm in peace.
02:12Yeah, right now she's very, like, very sweet.
02:15She trusts me.
02:16She's not really that, like, aggressive.
02:19Doesn't look that aggressive.
02:21I was an assistant for about a year, helping the mobile groomers.
02:26And honestly, these dogs, they make me feel, you know, very, like, positive.
02:32Like, they make me feel good.
02:34Very heartwarming creatures.
02:36And I just, I told Nell that I wanted to become a groomer.
02:41And they started training me.
02:42And now I'm here.
02:43Say hello to Cotton.
02:49I'll pick you up, okay?
02:50A young and spirited princess who can't wait to meet you.
02:53This adorable three-year-old cream-colored bolognese pup was found roaming the streets
02:58until a caring, good Samaritan saved her from the dangers of traffic and war.
03:03So just like the first dog, I'm going to take it slow, introduce her to the water,
03:09the bathing area as well.
03:10She is a loving, friendly, gentle, and clever dog who loves to cuddle on the couch.
03:16This quirky little lap dog is sure to steal your heart with her kisses
03:19and her warm nature towards everyone she meets.
03:22Cotton would be the perfect friend for someone in search of a playful and fun dog.
03:27And she would make a fantastic addition to any family.
03:31All right, Mama.
03:33Shelter dogs are, like, either they found the dog roaming in the street
03:38or, you know, the owners gave up the dog.
03:42They couldn't take care of the dog.
03:43And for whatever reason, they brought him to a shelter, you know,
03:47so they could find a better home.
03:49Cotton came to us as a very, very matted young, I would say, dog.
03:54I think the story of it is it was not, like, dumped in a shelter,
03:59but it was just found in the streets.
04:01She doesn't look clean.
04:02She's not covered in feces.
04:04Her paws are covered in urine a little bit,
04:07but they're very easy to take off.
04:10Doesn't look like she's been there for too long.
04:13Good girl.
04:14She looks and seems like a puppy.
04:17She still has a little bit of teeth that are growing out.
04:20I use warm water.
04:23Usually, if it's, like, cold water, they'll get scared.
04:26They'll start shaking, and they'll get stressed out real fast.
04:29Usually, for a puppy, we don't shave because it ruins their puppy coats.
04:34Unfortunately, at the moment, I bathe the dog first, hoping to save the coat.
04:39So, I am very excited just to see how, like, the outcome of, like, the haircut and everything.
04:47I do feel, like, kind of sad for them because, like, right here, it's very matted.
04:53And if we try to brush it out or de-mat the dog, they feel that pain.
04:58And we don't like to put any dogs to pain, especially shelter dogs.
05:02But hopefully, by the end of this day, you know, she'll go back to the shelter,
05:06look, you know, way more beautiful than what she does.
05:10And, you know, hopefully she finds a home, like, very, very, you know, ASAP.
05:17The Bolognese is a petite dog breed that belongs to the Bichon family, originating from Italy.
05:23They are classified as a rare breed dog with a history that is steeped in antiquity.
05:28For over 2,000 years, the Bolognese have been bringing joy and fulfillment to people's lives.
05:34In fact, during the Renaissance, Italian nobility popularized the breed by gifting puppies to other noble families.
05:44These dogs were celebrated as the most prestigious gifts that one aristocrat could give to another.
05:50These little white dogs symbolized wealth.
05:53And many affluent Italian women viewed the Bolognese as an essential accessory to be pampered, powdered, and perfumed with.
06:01Nowadays, the Bolognese remain loyal and affectionate pets and companions.
06:06However, this breed is not ideal for individuals or families who are away from home for extended periods of time,
06:13as they can experience significant distress when left alone for too long.
06:17So, for grooming stray dogs, it'll, like, it'll show them a whole different, like, look towards the dog.
06:28Go, girl!
06:29And at the end of the day, like, over, like, at the end of the grooming session, the dog will look completely different.
06:36They'll look cleaner.
06:37They'll smell good.
06:39They're more presentable towards, like, the eyes of the people.
06:42And it'll be easier for them to get a home.
06:44The problem with the stray dogs is lack of, I would say, socialization and love.
06:50You've got a lot of fur.
06:52Each dog has a story, right?
06:54And I wish they could talk.
06:56They will tell you, hey, this happened to me.
06:57This is why I bite you.
06:58Or, hey, this is why I don't like to touch my paws.
07:03But I would say the most thing, they're fearful.
07:06Like, they scare a lot of stuff.
07:07And that's because of lack of socialization, not being exposed to certain things.
07:12My goal is to earn their trust.
07:15And if, you know, certain dogs, it's hard.
07:18But I feel like, at the end of the day, they'll be a lot confident with being with me and helping them as well.
07:26All right, baby.
07:28All right.
07:28All right.
07:29I think for, like, people who, like, their interest, you know, they love dogs and stuff.
07:35And they want to make a difference with dogs.
07:37I feel like choosing this path is, you know, the right thing for them.
07:42For me, I love dogs.
07:44If I could have 30 dogs, I would.
07:47Unfortunately, you know, I don't have a big enough space, you know, to keep all of them at the moment.
07:52But when I do, I can and I will.
07:55Do you find that sometimes you develop connections with the dogs you work with?
07:59Yes.
07:59I think it's every single shelter dog that I've done, I've always wished I could take them home.
08:05I don't, unfortunately, I don't live in a big, you know, space.
08:10So I can't adopt all these dogs that I've done.
08:13But if I could, I would.
08:14And I think that's the hard part at the end of the day is separating from the dog that I've connected to.
08:21You'll find a good home.
08:22I promise.
08:23Being in a shelter can greatly impact a dog's physical and emotional health.
08:30Like, even though shelters are there to help them, I feel like that is still kind of tough and hard for them
08:37because they build a fear mentality when it comes to, like, meeting somebody new and stuff.
08:43Shelter settings, although often essential, can create stress and result in behavioral problems,
08:49weakened immune systems, and challenges in recovery.
08:52Some dogs might experience fear or anxiety, while others may become excessively energetic or aggressive.
09:00When they're in shelters, their environment is constantly, like, huge dogs just barking constantly.
09:07Poo, poo, poo, poo, poo, poo.
09:09Running around in their feces, in their pee.
09:13And I think for them it's very difficult to live in that situation.
09:17Dogs are just the best, you know, best pet, best companion you could ever have.
09:21They'll take care of you.
09:23You know, you'll take care of them.
09:25Honestly, it's what I can do for them at the end of the day.
09:29Some of these dogs, they come to us, stress about how they are.
09:32And I feel like after the grooming session's done, they feel fantastic.
09:37And to me that matters.
09:38People come and see them.
09:39They're clean.
09:40You know, they look beautiful, gorgeous.
09:41And they want to adopt them.
09:44And hopefully they do soon.
09:53Good shake.
09:55Come on.
09:56Good girl.
09:57So now I'm taking her to the drying area where I'm going to try to dry her and brush her
10:02out at the same time.
10:04This way.
10:06This way.
10:08Good girl.
10:09I'm drying her at the moment.
10:11And I'm looking how deep the mats are and that they're easy to come out a lot easier.
10:17Fortunately, they were too deep in.
10:19So shaving is, you know, the only option at this point.
10:23And we always start in their back area.
10:27Because usually if you do their face right away, they'll get scared.
10:31Just bring her up a little bit around the body a lot too much.
10:34My mistake was I bathed her first.
10:38I think I should have shaved first.
10:40I thought she was a puppy.
10:42But she's very, very, very, like...
10:44Where did you even wash this dog?
10:46Originally, we're supposed to shave the dogs first.
10:49That way it'll be easier to bathe them.
10:53It'll be easier to dry them.
10:54You should have done just shaving the floor.
10:57And then go from there.
10:59That was my mistake.
11:00I was still able to get it done.
11:02But it was doable.
11:04Maybe not in this area if I can't.
11:07It's a day.
11:08Huh?
11:14The first step is just to start from the top of the head all the way to the tail.
11:18So I brought Nell, who's very sweet with dogs, who has very, you know, much more experience than I do.
11:24You see, it's coming from, like, it's like shaving a sheep.
11:27Comes with one piece because the dog is really mad at it.
11:31Like, you see this all come in one, like, piece of clothes.
11:36Because the dog can't be brushed.
11:38And how do you take care of that?
11:40It happens a lot with the dogs that go to the shelter because this type of dog needs to get groomed.
11:44Like, with this length of hair, it needs to be brushed out of your dick.
11:47You know, she makes these noises that catches the attention of dogs.
11:50Very cute noises.
11:52Ah!
11:53Ah!
11:56Ah!
11:56Cool, girl!
11:57They feel comfortable with Nell, and as long as Nell is able to do it without getting bit, then, you know, it'll be, it works out.
12:06I would love to leave the leg a little longer to keep it, like, no longer cute, but we are trying to make sure the dog is comfortable.
12:12I feel like clean dog would get adopted really fast.
12:16In the morning light, when the sun breaks free, I'm standing by the door longing for your plea.
12:27Your footsteps come like a whisper, soft and sweet, with a magic bell that dances in your beat.
12:37I feel like each dog that has a chance to be exposed and then get, like, a picture, get to, like, social media, like, right now, I feel like it's a big factor.
12:46How does grooming help change the way people see stray dogs?
12:50Who doesn't like a clean dog, right?
12:52You want a, like, clean dog is the first thing you come because, dog, you want to cuddle.
12:56Like, dogs are for cuddle.
12:57They can love you, they can kiss you, so what's better than, like, you have a dog that is clean, right, like, smell fresh,
13:04and then when you touch it, it doesn't get hair all over you, it's not, like, matted.
13:08Feathers are really light and then can go well with it, like, make it, like, a little bow for their, like, ears for hair, so it just gives a lot of fashion look.
13:17It's very fascinating to see how clean dog with a cute banana can get more chance than a dog that is actually doesn't have it.
13:25That's why I feel like we just want to help, so I'm going to change that for them.
13:29So, for Cotton, like, I know that grooming session was her first time, and I know she probably would have more in the future,
13:38but overall, I think, you know, she's an absolutely amazing dog.
13:44I feel like it'll attract a lot of attention for people, and I really hope she finds a home.
13:54Let's do it.
13:54I'm the one who's always waiting for you
13:59With a wagon tail
14:02And a heart so true
14:04Your voice is music
14:07That I long to hear
14:10When you're filled with joy
14:12I feel you near
14:15I'll be here forever
14:18My loyalty won't sway
14:21Today, tomorrow, in every way
14:25I'm the one who's always waiting for you
14:34With a woman who hasn't set a world
14:40That I wish
14:40I'm the one who's always waiting for you
14:41To play hard
