00:00Norman Tebbett was an absolute hero who took on socialist lunacies like the closed shop,
00:07which said that you had to be a member of a union in order to have a certain job.
00:11And he took on the union balance, helped to pave the way for Britain's revival in the 1980s and 1990s.
00:19And at a time when Labour is disastrously trying to reverse those reforms,
00:24it's vital to remember why he said what he did.
00:27The most famous thing he said was that in the 1930s, when his father was unemployed,
00:34he didn't riot, said Norman Tebbett. He got on his bike and he looked for work.
00:38And everybody said that was a totally heartless, cruel thing to say.
00:42But actually it was because Norman Tebbett supported the values of thrift and energy and self-reliance
00:48rather than a culture of easy entitlement.
00:52And today, under this Labour government, we need the values of Norman Tebbett more than ever.
