The clash is real. Despite halting critical weapons shipments to Ukraine, Trump now reverses course—pumping "defensive weapons primarily" back into the fight, even as he publicly challenges Putin. This high-stakes struggle between Trump and the Pentagon exposes deep splits over America’s role in ending the war and protecting global stability. Will this be enough to support Ukraine—or just another chaotic swing in U.S. policy?
00:00I'm stopping wars, and I hate to see people killed.
00:03Like, as an example, Ukraine and Russia.
00:06I'm disappointed, frankly, that President Putin hasn't stopped.
00:10I'm not happy about it either.
00:12We did, and others, that were ready to fight, and we stopped a lot of fights.
00:18On Ukraine, Mr. President, are you planning to send more weapons to Ukraine?
00:23We're going to send some more weapons.
00:25We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves.
00:27They're getting hit very hard now.
00:30They're getting hit very hard.
00:31We're going to have to send more weapons.
00:32They're defensive weapons, primarily, but they're getting hit very, very hard.
00:38So many people are dying in that mess.
00:50Who knows? They're just people, but they're souls.
00:53And if I can stop a war, you know, because I have an ability to...
00:58I'm disappointed, frankly, that President Putin hasn't stopped.
01:02I'm not happy about it either.
01:04This capability review, and that's exactly what it is.
01:07It's a capability review, is being conducted to ensure U.S. military aid aligns with our defense priorities.
01:15And we will not be providing any updates to specific quantities or types of munitions being provided to Ukraine or the timelines associated with these transfers.
01:24But the Secretary will continue to make recommendations to the President for his decision on military assistance to Ukraine going forward.
01:34We'll see you next time.
01:42We'll be back.
01:44We'll be back.
01:47Could you just please walk us through the decision to halt the supply of weapons to
02:15Ukraine at a time when Russia is really hitting Ukrainian cities and civilians?
02:20Sure.
02:21Was that the President who decided that, or did the Pentagon do it without his approval?
02:25Nope.
02:26Neither of those things are true.
02:27I'm happy to walk you through it.
02:28This was a standard review by the Pentagon of all weapons and all aid and all support
02:34that the United States is providing all countries and all regions around the world, not just
02:39Ukraine.
02:40When the Secretary of Defense took office, he directed the Pentagon to conduct this review
02:44to ensure that everything that's going out the door aligns with America's interests.
02:48So it's a pause to review to ensure that everything the Pentagon is pushing out there is in the
02:54best interest of our military and our men and women in uniform.
