00:01I'm tired of being fat.
00:02I can't control my weight anymore.
00:04I can barely walk, I'm mad red.
00:06I don't want to continue my life like this.
00:08I can't believe I let myself get this way.
00:11I can't even lift my legs up.
00:13I'm really scared.
00:15Doctor Now, you are the change that I need.
00:18I don't want to lose my life.
00:20Doctor Now, I need your help.
00:21Nothing has worked for me.
00:23Please help me.
00:25If you want to live, you need a weight loss surgery.
00:28But you're going to have to do your part.
00:30I won't be stopped now.
00:31Back to your next success story.
00:34Ready to go.
00:35Ready to start a new healthy journey.
00:36If we're onto something, we're going to be on it.
00:38So we're going to do this.
00:39I am ready to take on this weight loss journey.
00:43I'll make the changes for my family, for myself.
00:45We want to be able to go out and be free.
00:47For once, I feel like I'm worth it.
00:52Lauren, I got your message.
00:54I am scheduling an appointment for you.
00:56But you need to be ready to work.
00:58I don't want to lose my life.
00:59I'm only 25 years old.
01:01I've never lost that much weight before.
01:04I feel normal again.
01:09My name is Lauren.
01:11I'm 25 years old.
01:13I weigh over 600 pounds.
01:15I am making this video for Doctor Now,
01:18asking him to put me in his weight loss program.
01:20I have been homebound for the past three to four years.
01:24I have not been outside.
01:26I can only walk a couple of minutes at a time.
01:29I'm tired of being trapped in this body.
01:32I can't do anything on my own anymore.
01:34Are you ready to take a shower?
01:37Sandra's my best friend.
01:38She's been through everything with me.
01:40She knows all about me.
01:42She can help me get things done.
01:50Do you need help?
01:57I'm tired of being stuck in these four walls.
01:58I can barely get to where I need to go inside my own home.
02:02She's been my best friend since junior year.
02:11I was a sophomore.
02:12You were a sophomore.
02:13I was a junior.
02:14So like what?
02:15How many years is that?
02:16Like eight?
02:17Like eight years.
02:18Like eight years.
02:19Stop!
02:21I know, but not there.
02:24Can you actually get my buttcheats?
02:26She's been my best friend.
02:31She's been my best friend for so many years.
02:33It's hard.
02:34You know, it's hard for me because,
02:36to be honest,
02:37I never thought we would be here.
02:46I hate that my best friend has to do that for me.
02:49And I'm ready to change.
02:51I just never thought this would be my life.
02:54I never thought I would get to this point
02:56and I would end up like this.
02:58And that's why I need Dr. Now.
03:00I have struggled with my weight ever since I was a child.
03:08I'm the oldest of four.
03:10But growing up with my siblings was a lot of fun.
03:13Just having my siblings in the room next door
03:16that I could play with whenever I wanted.
03:18It was the best.
03:19And then one day, it just ended.
03:22When I turned 13, my dad just came in my room
03:26and he just asked me,
03:27how would you feel if your mom and I got a divorce?
03:31A couple weeks later, we ended up having to leave the house.
03:34It happened so quick.
03:37I didn't really know what to feel except I was angry.
03:39I was very mad.
03:41I didn't understand why.
03:43And the way I would cope with everything is food.
03:47I ended up living with my mom and my siblings.
03:51But me and my mom did not get along.
03:54So I was kind of spiraling out of control
03:57and I would just eat all day.
03:59I was searching for just comfort.
04:04Just the feeling of being full was my comfort.
04:08And so one meal I thought was never enough.
04:11So that's when my weight started getting out of control.
04:15At 13, I was already over 250 pounds.
04:19But over the next year, I got close to 400 by the time I was 14.
04:24Lolo's always been on the heavier side,
04:27thicker side, because she had some eating habits
04:31that I did not like.
04:33So she just continued to grow.
04:36I'm absolutely concerned about her weight.
04:38My mom's response was to put me in fat camp.
04:42I really hated my mom for signing me up for it
04:45because I felt like she was against me and not for me.
04:49So at the age of 15, I went to go move in with my grandma.
04:53From 16 till about I was 20, I had just basically house-talked
04:57with friends here and there, starting with Sandra,
05:00because Sandra was my best friend.
05:02I first met Lauren in high school in volleyball class.
05:07She was already the biggest person on our team.
05:10And I was probably one of the only ones that didn't judge her
05:14for her weight.
05:15But she was really funny.
05:18Five pounds in five minutes.
05:21Ready?
05:22Okay.
05:23Back one.
05:24We just kind of clicked.
05:26And we've been friends ever since.
05:28We're two strong personalities that somehow can get along.
05:32We just had a lot of things in common,
05:34and we would just go out to parties and stuff together.
05:37She was always present, you know, did our activities.
05:41So there was no limitations.
05:43It's just the food portion started to get bigger.
05:46If she would pick me up to go somewhere, it's to get food.
05:49Or if we were to go to a store, we would have to get food.
05:52And I just couldn't keep up with her cravings.
05:55But after we left high school, she started to gain a lot more weight.
06:00Because I gained a lot really fast, when I was 22, I was in the low 400s.
06:06But over the next year, I jumped to the 600s really fast.
06:10One day, I tried to go out, and I couldn't fit behind the steering wheel of my car.
06:15It was a big eye-opener, but it wasn't enough to make me want to change.
06:20I was comfortable having everything delivered to me.
06:23So that's when I became homebound.
06:25I know it's killing me because eight months ago,
06:29all of a sudden, I couldn't breathe.
06:31I was just struggling.
06:33I called 911.
06:35I went to the hospital.
06:37They diagnosed me with congestive heart failure.
06:40And I almost lost my life.
06:42And that, more than anything, made me realize that this is serious.
06:45So it was a wake-up call.
06:47And when I got discharged, I was just so grateful that I made it.
06:51And I started to realize there's still hope for me.
06:54There still is a journey for me to go on.
06:56It's not the end.
06:57It motivated me to want to get better.
07:00But I don't know how.
07:02So nothing's changed, except I'm getting worse.
07:05I know that I got up to 600.
07:08And that's scaring me.
07:09But I'm ready to move forward.
07:12Hey, fellow.
07:13Hi, Mommy.
07:14I want to hang out with my siblings.
07:15I don't want them to have to come to me to my apartment every time just so they can see me.
07:25I want to have fun with them.
07:26And I want to make memories with them.
07:28Okay, Liberty, get to it.
07:29What y'all want?
07:30What do y'all want?
07:31Do you have a sugar-free coconut, Lib?
07:33No.
07:34Oh.
07:35Oh, I don't.
07:36Oh, okay.
07:37No, no, no.
07:38Yeah, let me do a pina colada.
07:39Let me do a pina colada.
07:40You'll like it.
07:41We have a family business.
07:43And I want to be out there with them making those memories.
07:46For you.
07:47Aw.
07:48There you go.
07:50You're welcome.
07:51I need to sit.
07:52I'm sorry.
07:53Can I pull away?
07:54Yeah, my back is hurting.
07:56Laz, can you bring the cube up here?
07:59I want Lauren so she can live life the way a normal human being should live life.
08:05Just right there, right there, right there.
08:07In the sun?
08:08No, in the...
08:10Go to my house.
08:12Visit friends, visit family.
08:14She's stuck here, 24-7.
08:18She says she's okay, but what person would want to be stuck in the house?
08:23Get back on that truck, right?
08:25We're working it together.
08:27Stop.
08:28It's okay.
08:33Hi, Dr. Renal.
08:35I need help.
08:36Nobody else is willing to help me.
08:38I can't do it on my own anymore.
08:40I've tried a million times and I've failed every single time.
08:43I need help.
08:44I'm tired of not being able to get around.
08:46I'm tired of being out of breath all the time.
08:49I want to go out in the real world again.
08:51I haven't been out there in years.
08:53I'm just asking for you to give me a chance because I'm ready this time.
08:58I just need someone to take a chance on me.
09:00Dr. Nell, please help me.
09:02Don't let me die in my apartment.
09:04I couldn't sleep because today is my appointment with Dr. Nell.
09:12I hope that when I get there, he doesn't turn me away because I haven't really found anybody who can help me at my size.
09:21I hope Dr. Nell can save my life.
09:25She can't hang y'all.
09:28Sandra can't hang.
09:29We have two hours and 25 minutes left.
09:32I'm not comfortable.
09:35My legs hurt.
09:37I got a cramp.
09:39My feet are going in and out of like falling asleep and like being numb.
09:45This is not, this is not fun.
09:47I almost want to just turn around and go home.
09:49It's so bad.
09:50Um, yeah, still two hours.
09:56Better get those bites in.
09:59It's my last unhealthy meal.
10:02You're wild.
10:07All right, go ahead.
10:13Lance, can you help me?
10:15Yeah.
10:16Okay.
10:17All right.
10:18Okay.
10:19Okay.
10:266.79.
10:27We're going to go to room 10.
10:35So I just did my first weigh in and I'm really shocked at the number.
10:41I just hope that Dr. Nell can, um, help me get the weight off and I can get my life back.
10:48I'm just willing to do whatever it takes to get there.
10:52Hello.
10:53Hello.
10:54Hello.
10:55How y'all doing?
10:56Good.
10:57How are you?
10:58I'm doing good.
10:59So you must be Lauren, huh?
11:01Yes.
11:02Nice to meet you.
11:03Nice to meet you.
11:04Who you got with you today?
11:05Um, I have my friend Sandra and my brother Laz.
11:11Hello.
11:12All right.
11:13Nice to meet you all.
11:14So Lauren, you're almost close to 700 pounds, huh?
11:17Mm-hmm.
11:18So what caused that?
11:20I eat a lot.
11:21Lots of fast food.
11:22Why?
11:23For comfort or because I'm bored.
11:25What do you order usually?
11:27Oh, everything.
11:28Pizza, burgers, everything.
11:31Any fast food.
11:32Tacos.
11:33What are you trying to do?
11:34Get as big as possible?
11:36It looks that way, but no, that's not my goal.
11:39Why do you suddenly want to change?
11:41I went to the hospital and that's when I had a realization that obviously I had a problem.
11:48Well, I look at your record.
11:49You were in a congestive heart failure and respiratory difficulty with respiratory insufficiency.
11:57That is disease that people get in the 70s, 80s, 90s.
12:01And, you know, if you keep this up and anything happen to you, you're not going to pull through.
12:07So this is not a very good situation you're at.
12:10Mm-hmm.
12:11Okay?
12:12Okay.
12:13So you have to try to lose some weight.
12:14And to do that, you need to be proactive about changing your diet.
12:18Right.
12:19Okay?
12:20So I'm going to give you a 1200 calorie high protein diet and there'll be no carb on your diet.
12:25Also, I'm going to give you some exercise that you need to do to build up your stamina.
12:30Okay.
12:31And if you do that and stick to that diet, you should be able to lose 75 pounds in two months.
12:37Okay?
12:38Mm-hmm.
12:39So that will be goal for you.
12:41This is something that you have to do right now.
12:45Don't think you're going to make it to be 30 if you continue like this.
12:48Okay.
12:49All right.
12:50On top of weight loss, I want you to set a goal for yourself to achieve over the next couple months.
12:56So if you lost weight, what is something that you always dream of doing?
13:02Oh, I would be out and about.
13:05I'd be helping my mom run her business.
13:07I'd be not stuck at home.
13:09I would be taking my dog on walks.
13:12Who take your dog to walk now?
13:15My brother.
13:16I do.
13:17That is enabling you doing everything for you so you don't have to lose your weight?
13:21Yes.
13:22All right.
13:23So in two months, I want you to be the one that walk your dog.
13:28Okay.
13:29Okay?
13:30Yes.
13:31You're not overfeeding that dog, are you?
13:33No.
13:34I mean, I'm big, but she's not overweight.
13:36Okay.
13:37So don't be a neighbor to your dog, too.
13:40No.
13:41She's healthy.
13:42Okay.
13:43So we're going to give you some paperwork to read.
13:46And also, I'm going to send you a nutritionist to help you out with the choices that you made.
13:52Also, we're going to get you to see a therapist because the issues that are driving you to eat need to be addressed.
14:00So a therapist is going to work with you to set some goals to achieve that, too.
14:05Okay?
14:06Okay.
14:07All right.
14:08So I'm going to bring you some stuff to go over with you.
14:09I'll be right back.
14:14You can lie to the doctor, but you can't lie to us.
14:16Yeah.
14:17And you left out that part of all that cheese in the morning that you eat?
14:21Well, I forgot to mention it, so...
14:23Well, Lauren, this is the time to call this out, you know?
14:25It'd be now to just tell the truth, you know?
14:27Mm-hmm.
14:28All right.
14:30Hey, Dr. Nell.
14:32Um, Lauren would like to tell you something.
14:35Okay.
14:36I guess I wasn't too honest with my full diet, um...
14:40I know you're not telling me the whole story.
14:43That's typical.
14:45And you're turning it down on your enablers.
14:48I'm sure two of them are here.
14:50Maybe, yeah.
14:51What do they usually bring you?
14:53Fast food, pizza, burgers, cake.
14:57They bring me whatever I ask for.
14:59So do you go shopping at all?
15:02I haven't been in a store in four years.
15:04Why?
15:05So you're gonna start to go do your own grocery shopping.
15:09I have to go to the store and get my own groceries?
15:12Yeah.
15:13Uh...
15:15I just haven't left my apartment in a long time, so...
15:18It makes me nervous.
15:19It's time to start, so...
15:21Right now, two goals.
15:22How about a personal goal of walking your dog
15:25and personal goal of going to a grocery store?
15:28And actually, it's gonna be your dog is walking you.
15:32Yeah, she is.
15:33Okay?
15:34Yeah.
15:35I'm very concerned with Lauren right now.
15:37This is a very dangerous situation for a 25-year-old
15:40to develop congestive heart failure because of their weight.
15:44I'm gonna give you a copy of my book.
15:47It's very important that Lauren turn her situation around
15:51before things get even worse.
15:53But if she doesn't stop lying to herself,
15:56she's never going to change.
15:58That's something important that therapy is going to need
16:01to work with her.
16:03All right.
16:04Any questions?
16:05Uh, no questions.
16:07Okay.
16:08So, a nutritionist and a psychotherapist
16:10will set up an appointment for you,
16:12and therapy is going to work with you
16:14to achieve some goals to help you
16:16with issues that drive you to eat.
16:18And if you do that, and you walk your own dog,
16:22you go to a grocery store and pick up your own healthy food
16:26and lose 75 pounds,
16:28then I will approve you for weight loss surgery.
16:31Okay.
16:32Okay?
16:33Well, have a safe trip back home.
16:35Nice to meet you all.
16:36Hope and see you 75 pounds later, okay?
16:39All right. Thank you. You will.
16:41All right. See you all later.
16:42Okay, bye.
16:43Bye.
16:44So, my goal with my walking is to basically each time
16:53go a little bit further,
16:54build up to the point where eventually Millie,
16:57or I can eventually take Millie out for a walk.
16:59I don't want to overdo it the first time
17:01because I'm scared to get stuck,
17:03so today I'm just going to walk to the stairwell
17:05and back three times.
17:06Ready?
17:07Up.
17:08One, two, three.
17:18Sorry.
17:21Hold on to whatever you need to hold on to.
17:25You got this.
17:26Make it to the staircase.
17:29Think like that's a win today.
17:31I need to go sit down.
17:32All right.
17:33Take a break.
17:34Yeah.
17:35Don't let your knees betray you.
17:42Are you going to do it again?
17:43I don't know.
17:44I'm still trying to catch my breath.
17:47I think I did too much today, so I'm done.
17:50Well, I'll be here again for you next time.
17:54So, I'm about to have my therapy session
17:57that Dr. Now has set up for me.
17:59I'm going to go into it with a very open mind.
18:01I'm nervous, but I'm also excited to see
18:03what the therapist has to say.
18:05Hi.
18:06Hello.
18:07How are you?
18:08I'm good, how are you?
18:09I'm good.
18:10I'm Jewel.
18:11Nice to meet you.
18:12I'm Lauren.
18:13Nice to meet you.
18:14So, tell me a little bit about yourself, Lauren.
18:16There's not much.
18:17I'm just average girl trying to get a better life.
18:22I'm extremely overweight.
18:24That's why I'm here.
18:25I've been homebound for the past three or four years.
18:28So, I just want to, you know, literally join the world again.
18:32I just want to go anywhere.
18:34You said that you've been homebound for about three years, right?
18:37Yes.
18:38Okay.
18:39So, prior to that, were you always, like, heavier,
18:42or did something happen?
18:44Yes.
18:45When I was a kid, my parents divorced.
18:49How was that dynamic after, you know, things changed for you?
18:54Really, it tore my family apart.
18:56Like, right after the divorce, I lived with my mom,
18:59and I only lived with her for a couple years,
19:01and at the age of 15, I left her house,
19:04and from the age of 15 to basically then,
19:07I was house hopping from different family members,
19:11friends' houses.
19:13So, you now have to ask, what happened at 15?
19:16So, where you left mom and was house hopping?
19:19What happened?
19:20Me and my mom are the same person.
19:22We couldn't get along.
19:23It just got that bad.
19:25But I did, you know, now I realize, you know,
19:29maybe I was the problem in some situations.
19:32I don't like people telling me what to do.
19:34I don't.
19:35I don't.
19:36And when that happens, I run.
19:39I'm out.
19:40I'm out.
19:41Like, I leave.
19:42But you can't run from yourself.
19:44No, I can't.
19:45I know you said you grew up.
19:47You were always on the heavier side.
19:49Does your mom help you now?
19:50Does she come over and help you out a lot?
19:52What is the dynamic?
19:54She is a very busy person.
19:56She comes here every once in a while,
20:01and it's just to catch up.
20:03It's frustrating because when I need help,
20:05I feel like maybe she's not really there sometimes.
20:08Mm-hmm.
20:09But then I get it because she doesn't want to cave in
20:12and help me and enable me to be stuck in this position.
20:16Right.
20:17How do you feel like that she's not physically there?
20:19Not to necessarily help you, but just to be with you,
20:22to be around you because you can't physically go to her.
20:24I would like to see her more often,
20:27but this is the only place I can see her is in my apartment.
20:30I'm pretty sure it probably makes her sad that, you know,
20:33you can't get out the way you want to
20:35and the way she wants you to.
20:36Like, mother-daughter type of stuff, so...
20:38Yeah.
20:39I definitely understand, you know, the dilemma.
20:41Yeah, she has told me that it is hard for her to see me like this.
20:45I know that you said earlier that, you know, during the divorce,
20:50like, and y'all kind of clashed,
20:52so did you blame mom for the divorce?
20:54There's a lot of things I just didn't understand
20:56and a lot of hate went a lot of places at the time.
21:01Mm-hmm.
21:05Looking back on it, like, I was just a child, so...
21:10Sorry.
21:12It's okay. You're a tough cookie.
21:14Sometimes, you know, I'll be on the phone with her
21:16and if I get off the phone, I'll just start crying
21:19because, you know, I'll think about, like, how I did treat her.
21:23Has your mom ever said, like, Lauren, I forgive you?
21:26Like, have y'all ever had that conversation?
21:28Not just, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, supermama, I love you so much.
21:31Maybe that's something that y'all need to have,
21:33that conversation as well.
21:35You just said that I'm tough, my mom is tough.
21:39Like, that's why when I do talk to her about emotions,
21:42it has to be in spurts.
21:45And if she catches on...
21:47She'll shut down.
21:48She'll shut down or move on.
21:50Maybe that's something that I think that, you know,
21:52your homework should be, like,
21:54maybe explaining those feelings of her, you know,
21:57around, like, the confusion of the divorce
22:00and how confused it made you and how vulnerable it made you,
22:03admitting to her why you lashed out at her,
22:05causing friction in y'all's household.
22:07And then just take accountability with her
22:10and be honest, you know, with her.
22:12I will definitely give it a try with her.
22:15Sandra's here today.
22:16We're going on a walk again.
22:19I've been keeping up with my little short walks here.
22:22So today I'm gonna see if I could really push
22:24and go a lot further.
22:26Good.
22:28Yeah, there you go.
22:30How does it feel?
22:33Um, it feels nice to actually walk.
22:36To be able to be out here.
22:39I'm just looking at everything because I don't come out here.
22:42Getting a taste of what the world looks like.
22:45But I think this is good.
22:47Because now I start feeling my body, like,
22:50obviously getting tired.
22:52Okay.
22:53So I think we should go back.
22:54All right.
22:55That's okay.
22:56We can go back.
22:57I'm just really scared about, like, getting stuck, you know?
23:01It's your maintenance, man.
23:03It is.
23:04Bye.
23:05Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
23:08If I follow you in front of me.
23:10Okay.
23:11I'll try.
23:13Finish strong.
23:15Yay.
23:16Look at that.
23:17Feels good to break a sweat, right?
23:20Yeah.
23:21You did a lot better this time, yeah.
23:24Like, you look a lot better out there for sure.
23:26That really did make me happy seeing that.
23:29I'm proud that I went further than I have been going.
23:32I just still have a long ways to go because when we were on the way back,
23:36my legs were starting to shake a little bit.
23:39Okay.
23:40But I'm just proud of myself that I did it.
23:43I guess.
23:44I don't know.
23:46Okay, Mom.
23:47Well, hold on.
23:48Before we start, I'm just going to set up the camera.
23:50Okay.
23:51I asked you to come here today because I just want to talk to you about some things.
23:58You don't really like talking about emotions or things that we've been through.
24:04But I'm just going to ask you to keep an open mind with me.
24:07After the divorce, I was really mean.
24:11I latched out a lot.
24:13While I want to acknowledge those things and take accountability for how I acted as a teenager,
24:18I also just want to ask you a question because when y'all got divorced, everything happened so fast.
24:26I didn't really get any explanation.
24:28You know, why did you never, you know, talk to me back then about what really went on?
24:33I don't know.
24:34Maybe it would have helped me understand I wouldn't have been your biggest enemy back then.
24:38Biggest enemy back then because I know it really felt like I was.
24:42And I know that I was after you.
24:44I really was.
24:45Because you were there and that's just how I felt, you know, at the moment.
24:49You didn't know what was going on, but I didn't either.
24:52And that's why I didn't explain anything to you.
24:54But that's why you kept on poking at me.
24:57The way I felt was like you were always saying you, you, you to me.
25:02Like it was my fault.
25:03You didn't even tell me that the divorce was happening.
25:06Dad is the one that told me.
25:08So I, it was all new to me too.
25:10Mm-hmm.
25:11So I was just trying to survive for all y'all.
25:14I wasn't thinking, oh, you know, Lolo needs everything explained.
25:19Because I didn't know how to explain everything to you.
25:21Like me looking back at it now, that makes sense.
25:26And I don't blame you for anything.
25:29Back then I did.
25:31Back then I did, like, you know, like I said, you were the one that I took everything out on.
25:36But basically I just want to take accountability for how I did act.
25:40Because we've never really spoken about it on a deeper level.
25:46All the anger that I had, I just, you just were on the other end of it.
25:52You still angry at me.
25:54I'm not angry at you anymore.
25:56And I can definitely see how I was wrong.
26:02And I know how hard I was back then.
26:04Oh, you were a, you know what?
26:08Yeah.
26:09I know.
26:10I was hard.
26:11I know that you were doing the best that you could with what you had.
26:17You said it a lot.
26:18And I didn't take you, I know I didn't take you serious, but looking back at it, you really did the best with what you had.
26:25And you had four kids.
26:29And I know that is not easy.
26:31We had a house.
26:33We obviously had food on the table.
26:35You know, we had clothes on our back.
26:37We went to good schools and, you know, I was so angry.
26:41I couldn't even, I couldn't see that.
26:43So I just want to say thank you now because I see what you did for us.
26:49And I just want to ask that, that way we, I can get closure.
26:57We can officially put all this, you know, behind us that, do you forgive me for acting out and taking my anger out on you?
27:14You know, when I was a solo.
27:20You'll always be my baby.
27:22Mm-hmm.
27:23My first one.
27:24But be honest, I did win some of those fights.
27:28No.
27:29I'm going to show you.
27:31But it's okay.
27:32Okay, let's just move on.
27:34Yes!
27:35All right.
27:36So my mom just left.
27:38I honestly thought she would have been more closed off.
27:41The fact that she sat there and listened to every word I had to say meant a lot to me.
27:45I think that I got the closure I needed.
27:47And I know that she didn't say it, but I think she got the closure she needed as well.
27:51I think we're in a much better place now.
27:54It's a really great feeling.
27:56And I think by continuing therapy as well, it's going to just help me along the way.
28:02Good girl, Millie.
28:03Okay.
28:04It's your leash.
28:05Okay.
28:06Millie, you want to go for a walk?
28:07Let's go.
28:08Come on.
28:09So Liza's here.
28:10I'm going to take the opportunity and I'm going to go with him to walk Millie.
28:11This is one of my goals.
28:12And I feel like if I don't just do it, I'm going to put it off.
28:15I'm nervous because I just don't want to go too far out to where I can't make it back.
28:31Millie, hold on.
28:32She wants to go.
28:33I know.
28:34Slowly but surely.
28:35You good right there?
28:36No, yeah.
28:37I'm just laughing at Millie because I'm going so slow.
28:39Okay.
28:40What?
28:41You done?
28:42That's it.
28:43Yeah.
28:44Okay.
28:45That was pretty good for today.
28:46All right.
28:47Let's go because my legs are starting to jiggle on me, give out.
28:49All right.
28:50We're back.
28:51Whew.
28:52All right.
28:53We're back.
28:54Whew.
28:55That was pretty good for today.
28:56All right.
28:57Let's go because my legs are starting to jiggle on me.
29:00Give out.
29:01All right.
29:02We're back.
29:03Whew.
29:04Well, I did get farther than I expected.
29:07See, you're strong.
29:08You just got to believe.
29:10I'm going to start.
29:12You want to go across?
29:13Yeah.
29:14Just watch out for, like, the, uh, tree roots and stuff.
29:17You good?
29:18Yeah.
29:19Here it comes.
29:20All right.
29:25Hold on.
29:26It's your time.
29:31Okay, come on.
29:32comes on.
29:39Ah.
29:40Ah.
29:41You good?
29:42I not.
29:43Hold on.
29:44I...
29:45Okay.
29:46Just run the track and they're done.
29:47Ah!
29:49Ah!
29:51Come on, you almost there.
29:56Come on, you're almost there.
30:04So today Laz is going to come over
30:06and he's going to help me go to the grocery store
30:10for the first time in years.
30:14I'm really, really nervous.
30:16I just, I don't want to go honestly, but I know I have to.
30:19I've been on the diet for a little while now,
30:23so I know what I need to get.
30:24It's going to be all healthy foods
30:26and I'm not going to fail this time.
30:28It's just something I have to do and move forward with.
30:32So what'd you say?
30:33What'd you say you needed?
30:35I can't look at that.
30:38Yeah.
30:45It's fine.
30:49What else?
30:50Zucchini?
30:51Zucchini?
30:52Just get one.
30:53Okay, so...
30:55I have to follow you.
30:56I don't know where he at.
30:56Yeah, I'm back.
30:57Just go slow.
31:00Walking in here, seeing everything, where everything's at,
31:03I felt like I was in a movie.
31:06Like everything feels fake right now, but it's real.
31:10I just haven't been out here in so long.
31:12And seeing all the stuff, all the colors,
31:16just, I feel like I could do anything, really.
31:21Stop.
31:25A while ago, I wouldn't have been able to walk past it.
31:27I'd still be at the first aisle of chips or ice cream
31:31filling my cart.
31:32So, the fact that I just walked past all of it
31:35and didn't pick any of it up is a big step for me.
31:38It's got a lot of juice in it.
31:40Okay, that's it, because I can't do it.
31:41That's good?
31:42Yeah.
31:43Okay.
31:44Oops.
31:45It's right here.
31:46Oh, there's people.
31:47No.
31:48No.
31:49No.
31:50No.
31:51No.
31:52No.
31:53No.
31:54No.
31:55No.
31:56No.
31:57No.
31:58No.
31:59No.
32:00No.
32:01No.
32:02No.
32:03No.
32:04No.
32:05No.
32:06No.
32:07No.
32:08No.
32:09No.
32:10No.
32:11No.
32:12No.
32:13No.
32:14No.
32:15No.
32:16No.
32:17No.
32:18No.
32:19No.
32:20No.
32:21No.
32:22No.
32:23No.
32:24No.
32:25No.
32:26No.
32:27No.
32:28No.
32:29No.
32:30No.
32:31No.
32:32No.
32:33No.
32:34No.
32:35I don't even know how to pay anymore.
32:43I'm on my way to Dr. Niles for my next appointment.
32:46I've been working really hard.
32:47I've accomplished both of the goals
32:50that I told him I was going to do.
32:52But it's all about the number on the scale for that approval.
32:55And hopefully we get it today.
33:056-0-4.
33:10Dang, Lolo.
33:13OK.
33:17I just did my weigh-in.
33:18I'm very close to the 500s.
33:20And that's a shock to me.
33:23I haven't been in the 500s in years.
33:25But I still didn't lose the 50 pounds.
33:27And I'm just scared that what I did lose
33:30is not going to be enough to get approved
33:32for weight loss surgery.
33:35Hello.
33:36How y'all doing?
33:37Hi. Good. How are you?
33:39Good. All right.
33:40Looks like you're almost getting under 600 pounds, huh?
33:44Almost, yes.
33:46That's good.
33:47So your stamina's better?
33:48Stamina's up.
33:50I'm able to get around easier.
33:52Well, that's great.
33:53So you started doing your own grocery shopping?
33:56Yes.
33:57Laz helps me bag the groceries,
33:59but I choose everything and do the shopping.
34:02So you're making good choices?
34:04Yes.
34:05How is your therapy going at this time?
34:08Now that I've done some more sessions,
34:11it's actually helping me a lot.
34:13Are they talking about taking responsibility
34:16about what you eat?
34:17Yes.
34:18It took me a while to get to this point,
34:20but I can say that I'm aware of my habits
34:25and how we can prevent those in the future.
34:28So far, you have lost a total of 74 pounds,
34:33which is pretty good progress.
34:35So what I'm going to do is,
34:37I'm going to prove you for weight loss surgery,
34:39but I'm going to set you up for surgery
34:41a month from now.
34:42And I want you to show me that you can stick
34:45with a healthy eating habit by losing another 25 pounds.
34:50By then, if you do that,
34:52then we'll go ahead with your surgery.
34:54Do you think you can do that
34:55and lose another 25 pounds?
34:57Oh, yeah.
34:58I'm ready to get my life back,
34:59and this is going to be a tool in my toolbox
35:02that I need to do that.
35:04All right.
35:12Hello.
35:13Hi, doctor.
35:14All right.
35:16Look at my nails.
35:17Okay.
35:19These are my face?
35:20Yes, sir.
35:22I had to keep you for motivation.
35:24Oh, okay.
35:25Keep you with me during surgery.
35:27All right.
35:28So last month,
35:29you were supposed to lose 25 pounds.
35:32You lost 23 pounds.
35:34So I think that's close enough.
35:36So we will go ahead with your surgery today, okay?
35:38Okay.
35:39You ready?
35:40I'm approved.
35:41Yeah.
35:42Then I'm ready.
35:43Nora worked very hard to get to this point.
35:46She had some struggles at the beginning,
35:48some ups and downs.
35:49But overall,
35:50I am very confident that she's going to do well
35:53with the tool we're going to give her today.
35:55With this surgery,
35:56Lauren will continue to be able to control
35:59her eating habit and eat less.
36:01Because this operation will remove 80 to 85% of her stomach.
36:06Therefore,
36:07she'll be able to eat much less
36:09and control her eating habit.
36:11So this is an important step for Lauren
36:14because of how it's going to help her to continue
36:17making positive changes with her health.
36:20After today,
36:22it'll be like a new life.
36:23She has lots of family around her.
36:25And now she will be included with us.
36:28All right.
36:29Lauren's surgery went very well.
36:32And we are able to reduce out of the stomach.
36:35So she'll be able to have a good result with that.
36:41She needs to keep with a liquid diet for the next month.
36:44With that,
36:45she should lose another 35 pounds.
36:48Then she should lose 15 to 20 pounds
36:52if she stays on track.
36:54But she's going to help continue working
36:57just as hard as she had after surgery.
36:59So she can keep moving forward to get into her ultimate goal
37:03weight around 180 pounds.
37:06What to do isn't going to be easy.
37:09Just in the one month after my surgery,
37:11I can already tell a bit of a difference with my mobility.
37:14I feel really comfortable and confident
37:17walking by myself now.
37:19It just feels really good to walk.
37:23Honestly, never thought I'd be saying that.
37:25I had my one month checkup with Dr. Now.
37:28Oh, shoes.
37:31539.
37:32Hello.
37:33Hi, doctor.
37:34How are you?
37:35I'm doing okay.
37:36How are you all doing?
37:37I'm good.
37:38So instead of losing 35 pounds,
37:40you lost 42 pounds.
37:42Mm-hmm.
37:43You're doing great.
37:44So it is time to give you a bigger and better personal goal
37:49and therapy goal.
37:51For my next personal goal,
37:52I'm going to work for a full day with my family.
37:57Hi.
37:58What size can I get for you?
38:00Here you go.
38:01And you can grab your flavor.
38:02The flavor wave.
38:04Have a good one.
38:05My next therapy goal is to talk to Sandra.
38:08As much as I love her,
38:09some of the things that she says does get to me a little bit.
38:13I need you by my side.
38:14And sometimes I'm scared to go to you because I don't want the joking sometimes.
38:18You know what I'm saying?
38:19I hate that you can't come to me sometimes.
38:22So I'm going to consider your, how you feel and what you're going through.
38:28Everything has been really good.
38:30Everything's been going as planned.
38:32I've been closed off for so long.
38:34I'm just ready to get back out there and just get out, period.
38:37Hi.
38:38What's up, girl?
38:39What's up, girl?
38:40What's up, girl?
38:41Look how you get up.
38:42I don't want nothing.
38:43None.
38:44We'll save the rest for later, okay?
38:46This is the first time I've been out here to this area ever.
38:52And I've been here almost a year.
38:54And I was able to get here with no problems.
38:56So now I know I can do it whenever, you know?
38:57Walk Millie.
38:58Walk Millie.
38:59Hi.
39:00Hi, Sam.
39:01I'm good.
39:02How are you?
39:03I'm so proud of my sister.
39:04She's done a lot to get to where she's at.
39:05And I just hope that she keeps on staying on that track and she keeps going upward because
