00:00Mahabharat is one of the fundamental reasons that led to the grand war.

00:05There is the king and the king has seen a fisherwoman taking bath and he gets enthralled.

00:13He says I want to marry her. Now the fisherwoman Satyavati is smart and her father is actually

00:18shrewd. So they say you know even if she gets married to you how will she ever become the

00:24dominant, the powerful queen because from a previous marriage you already have a son and

00:30the name of that son was Bhishma. So the father goes and tells the son just like most of us here he says

00:36because my parents want something they should not feel hurt. A grand oath he takes. Bhishma

00:43Pitigya we still use that word. What does he say? I'll never accept the throne. I shall always be a

00:48guardian to the throne but never an occupant. But the girl is still not satisfied. She says

00:54you know he might not become the king himself but he's already so grown up very soon he will marry

01:00and then he'll have sons and they will become claimants to the throne. So Bhishma again to defend

01:07the father says I swear that I will not marry at all. And this kind of mollycoddling led to the war

01:17in which innumerous people died. It's not a question of whether or not he wants it. It's a question of

01:22whether or not it is the right thing. Rightness must take precedence over relationship.
