Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), July 8, 2025 (ANI): The water levels of the River Ganga are continuously rising in Varanasi, posing a threat to both small and large temples along the ghats. Some of the ghat steps are already submerged, and waves are hitting the structures with force. A few temples have already been engulfed by the river. At the famous Manikarnika Ghat, cremation activities have been shifted to rooftops as all the platforms are now underwater. According to a July 7 report by the Central Water Commission, the Ganga is flowing at 62.98 meters. While this remains about 9 meters below the danger mark, the strong currents have led to a ban on small boats, as authorities fear a potential mishap.
