00:00Imho State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has given reasons why a suspected kidnapper,
00:06Abina Ojihu, the police said his gang are responsible for series of kidnapping and
00:10armed robbery in Anambra, Delta and Rivers states has not been charged to court since
00:15he was arrested, while condemning an ex-social media post published by an account holder
00:20named Fisayo Suyombo who has raised alarm that the police arrested and detained Abina
00:26Ojihu he described in the post as a businessman for eight months without charging him to court.
00:31In a swift reaction on Saturday, Imho State Police Command in a statement issued and made
00:37available by the command spokesperson, Okoye Henry, narrated and listed the alleged crimes
00:43committed by the detained Abina Ojihu, saying, the kind of crimes Abina is allegedly involved in,
00:48a capital offense is that police has no right to grant his bail and the delay in taking him to
00:54court is because the alleged crimes cut across multiple states which required more time for
00:59proper investigation. Fisayo Suyombo who often introduces himself as an undercover investigator
01:06had tweeted on ex-social media on Saturday with a photograph of the police officer in charge of
01:12the case and said, S.P. Ola, the officer in charge of the anti-kidnapping unit of the police in Imho,
01:18has been detaining Abina Ojihu, a 43-year-old businessman, for eight straight months without
01:24charging him to court. S.P. Ola says nobody, not even the IGP, can compel him to act otherwise.
01:32And the police replied and said, the Imho State Police Command is aware of a recent misleading
01:38publication on the social media platform X, authored by Mr. Fisayo Suyombo, alleging the
01:45unlawful detention of one Mr. Abina Ojihu by the officer in charge of the anti-kidnapping unit,
01:51C.S.P. Ola de Meji Odiaiwa. To set the record straight, Mr. Abina Ojihu is a key suspect in
01:59multiple high-profile cases of kidnapping and armed robbery. He is an ex-convict previously remanded at
02:06the Akigwe Correctional Center, 2017-2019, over conspiracy and armed robbery charges. His most recent
02:14arrest was based on credible intelligence, linking him to a criminal syndicate involved in trafficking
02:20stolen vehicles acquired through violent crimes. Consequently, Abina Ojihu and his syndicate ran
02:26out of luck when they kidnapped Chief Akena Okafor on the 15th of November 2024 and dispossessed him
02:33of his Toyota Highlander SUV, a gold necklace, and other valuables worth over 20 million nairas,
02:40after which a ransom of 10 million nairas was paid. Swift tactical operations by the anti-kidnapping
02:47unit led to the arrest of two suspects, Chidozichuku and Uchenichuku, whose confession subsequently led
02:53to the arrest of Abina Ojihu, identified as a key figure in the kidnapping operation. During
03:00interrogation, Mr. Ojihu voluntarily confessed to receiving and selling vehicles obtained through
03:06armed robbery and kidnapping. His confessional statements significantly advanced ongoing
03:11investigations and led to the recovery of several stolen vehicles across Imho, Anambra,
03:17Delta, and Rivers states. These include a black Toyota Highlander, another Toyota Highlander with a
03:24Bonnyi registration, a black Range Rover Sport, four minibuses, and a Toyota Camry, Spider model.
03:30Further investigations led to the arrest of nine other syndicate members and the recovery of an
03:36AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, over 40 rounds of ammunition, and other incriminating items,
03:44confirming the group's involvement in organized violent crime. While it is true that Mr. Ojihu has
03:50been in custody for a period, we wish to clarify that he has not been held for up to eight months as
03:56alleged. His detention is related to capital offenses for which bail cannot be granted by the
04:02police. Moreover, the complexity of the investigation, spanning multiple states and involving several
04:10suspects, has necessitated his continued detention, particularly as his cooperation remains crucial to
04:16unraveling the syndicate's operations. He will be arraigned in court at the earliest possible time.
04:22The IMHO State Police Command wishes to emphasize that CSP Odiaiwa and his team operate within the
04:29confines of the law and remain accountable to the professional and ethical standards of the Nigeria
04:34Police Force. Any allegation of human rights abuse or professional misconduct may be formally reported
04:41to the Complaint Response Unit, CRU, or the X-Squad Unit for prompt and appropriate action.
04:47It is unfortunate that such a serious matter of national security was misrepresented and published
04:53without first seeking clarification from the command. Issues of this magnitude demand responsible
05:00and professional reporting, not sensationalism. The IMHO State Police Command remains unwavering in
05:06its commitment to transparency, the protection of human rights, and the enforcement of the rule of law.
05:12We call on the public to disregard any misleading narratives and continue to support our ongoing efforts to
05:19make IMHO State safer for all, the police stated.
05:26We call on The I-WAC & дебis, bringing youth the news in a more digital way.
