00:29called after the sun, and the goddess, the goddess of the sun.
00:36Lok Grenia, which means the sun lake, or the sunny lake, it depends on your take on it.
00:42The lake of the sun.
00:53When you're born here, and I've lived here all my life, it doesn't seem anything special.
00:58It's only when you go away and travel, when I come back here, I found that I didn't see anything nice of them,
01:07what we actually had at home.
01:13My name is Kathleen McNamara, I was born in Cahar, Kathleen Kelly, literally right beside the lake in the village of Cahar.
01:23And I've only moved up the road, and got married here to Pat, Pat McNamara.
01:29So really I've lived in the Grainy Valley all my life.
01:32My name is Pat McNamara.
01:35Curricloon is my home place here in this townland.
01:38And my original home is just down the lower road, but I'm up here on the Scallarf Road, up on Curricloon 4 we'll call it.
01:45But I was born in 1958, and I've lived all my life here.
01:51I grew up on a small farm with my dad, and my mother used to work on the farm as well, making cows in those days.
01:59And then I went and trained as a teacher, and I spent 40 years at that profession.
02:04My name is Mary Noonan, and I'm a Mrs. Mary Noonan.
02:10So I blew into the area 40 years ago this year, a couple of months ago actually.
02:16I've been married to a local man, and I live down in Cahar.
02:20And I think I love almost everything about the Grainy Valley.
02:25I love the nature, I love the people.
02:29I love the sense of humour of the people here.
02:32I love their kind of honesty and everything.
02:35I love the whole, the unbelievable setting of Loch Grainy itself, and the entire valley.
02:41Starting from the Galway border, and really stretching down to Scallarf, it's magnificent.
02:47And it's hidden, it's a hidden treasure.
02:49If the lake wasn't there, I wouldn't be here.
02:56That's about nearly the size of it, you know.
02:59The lake is very important.
03:01It comes back to your make-up, I think.
03:04We won't say the word DNA, but it's something similar to that, you know.
03:12I'm looking down upon Loch Grainy
03:16Here in the county of Clare.
03:21It's crystal clear and tranquil waters, reflecting the hillsides so fair.
