A video shows Ben and Tom on their 1,000-mile tandem bike challenge during which they ate, drank and slept in pubs.
Transcript
00:01Two weeks ago, we started in Land's End on the Great British Pub Ride, ending up here at John O'Groats,
00:08staying only in the Great British Boozers.
00:11We slept there, we ate there, we drank there.
00:14The whole point of it was to show how important these pubs are to our community.
00:20That we can rely entirely on the beautiful British Boozer.
00:23We did it on this tandem bike, it's been exhausting, it's been relentless.
00:27I'd say that has been the most, I think, brutal.
00:31I've just normalised hills.
00:33It's been full of jeopardy, we've fallen off a couple of times.
00:39The chain's broken.
00:41So irritating.
00:42And it's been a brutal two weeks on our legs and our minds,
00:46but it's nothing compared to what pubs are facing at the moment.
00:49VAT, heating bills, business rates, the cost of a pint, that industry is under so much pressure,
00:54but it's so critical for our communities that if we don't use them, we will lose them,
00:59and it will be absolutely detrimental to our lives.
01:03The people running these pubs, they're all lovely people.
01:06Yeah.
01:07Who've done amazing things for us.
01:08Charmaine, Charmaine the landlady here, has gone across to the bakery to get us these pies.
01:13So she's gone to do that because they didn't have anything in the kitchen.
01:16They've opened up early, they've called mechanics when our bike's broken down.
01:20When we fell off a bike, they looked after us.
01:23And you realise that these places are not faceless institutions,
01:26they're crucial components of our community and our culture.
01:33So we should be proud of our pubs and the crucial role that they play in our communities.
01:38So stop watching this and go down your local.
